of Josephinum’s mission and resources. Your generous
support has made it possible for us to provide a
transformative education to young women who are
determined to reach their highest potential. We dedicate
ourselves to the continual improvement of the Josephinum
program in order to best meet the needs of our students
while modeling for them our commitment to excellence.

Dear Friends
In 2014-2015, Josephinum:
• Celebrated the success of the Class of 2015, which
earned 100 percent college acceptances and a record $6.9
million in merit-based college scholarships. Josephinum
is now represented at exceptional universities including
Cornell, Oberlin, and Denison.
• Continued the implementation of the International
Baccalaureate curriculum for all students. In the past
year, 13 members of Josephinum’s faculty have received
professional training in preparation for accreditation in Fall
2015.
• Conducted a yearlong community reflection on
Josephinum’s integration of the mission of Sacred Heart
education in all aspects of our program.
Through your generosity, Josephinum continues to be able
to offer its exceptional program to inspiring young women,
regardless of their ability to afford full tuition. We know that
the value of a Josephinum education extends to every
student, her family, and her community for generations
to come. On behalf of all members of the Josephinum

Gala
Josephinum Academy hosted the annual Gala on September 27, 2014 at the Jean Marie Ryan Center at Misericordia. Nearly 340
guests helped raise a record-breaking total of more than $450,000 in support of Josephinum’s scholarship program. The event
honored Suzanne Franklin with the Blessed Pauline Award and William McNulty with the Helen Bruns Ryan Award. Corina Perez, a

Winter Lunch Spring Luncheon The Winter Lunch was held February 25, 2015 at the Union League
Club. The event included 300 guests who helped raise nearly
$75,000 to support Josephinum’s students. Keynote speaker
Fr. Jack Wall spoke about women religious and their immense
contribution to both Josephinum and schools across the country.
Student speaker Marlen Gonzalez, a Class of 2015 graduate and
Posse Scholarship recipient, gave a moving speech in which she
thanked her teachers for encouraging her to strive for excellence. The Spring Luncheon took place April 29, 2015 at the Michigan
Shores Club in Wilmette. More than 250 guests attended and
helped raise nearly $68,000 for Josephinum’s scholarship
program. Actress and activist Susan Saint James served as the
keynote speaker and spoke fondly of her experience as a student
at a Sacred Heart school. Student speaker Wendy Rociles shared
her story and explained how Josephinum helped her become the

Marlen Gonzalez Wendy Rociles Marlen is the first Josephinum Academy student to attend an Ivy
League university. In addition to maintaining a stellar GPA that
led her to graduate second in her class, Marlen was incredibly
involved at Josephinum and in her community. She was an active
member of Josephinum’s Club for Social Action and regularly
participated in service projects, volunteering at local churches
and for nearby charities. In an effort to improve her Mandarin
language skills, she participated in Josephinum’s 2014 Cultural
Exchange Program and spent part of the summer in Taipei,
Taiwan. Marlen is one of two Posse Scholars from the Class of
2015 and was awarded full tuition to attend Cornell University.
Wendy’s interest in theater production, stage management,
and business began at Josephinum, and she took her passions
with her to Marquette University, where she is studying theatre
and advertising. Wendy was a member of the Josephinum
Ambassador Council and the National Honor Society. Sophomore
year she took fifth place in the Chicago Network for Teaching
Entrepreneurship for her business, Beauty in the Mirror, which
sold customizable lip gloss. Her business knowledge also earned
her a spot and a scholarship at the annual University of Minnesota
Summer Business Camp the summer before her junior year.
Wendy was the only Chicagoan selected that summer to attend.
Endia Lawrence Liliana Martinez Endia is a Posse Scholar and was awarded full tuition to attend
Oberlin University. When she wasn’t doing school work, Endia
could be found volunteering for local charities or participating
in seminars or clubs that helped her build leadership skills and
empower others. She was actively involved in Black and Latino
Achievers, the Teen Leadership Institute and the Josephinum
Ambassadors Council. Endia also participated in internships
throughout high school, including the Adler Summer Intern
Program and the Summer Business Institute, where she was
an Administrative Assistant at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Through these experiences, she interacted with community
members, assisted others looking for guidance and prepared for
her future success as a leader in college and beyond.
Liliana took her love of golf and caddying and found a way to
fund all four years of college. She received the Chick Evans
Scholarship and was awarded full tuition to attend the University
of Colorado Boulder. In addition to working as a caddy at Evanston
Golf Club, Liliana was a member of the Fitness Club, Club for
Social Action, Garden Club, and more. She was also very active
in the community and participated in several service projects and
trips, including one to Sprout Creek Farm in New York where she
learned farming skills with three other Josephinum students.

Special Thanks

the use of the school building and land, valued at $325,185 per year.
Beginning in the 2009 Fiscal Year, Josephinum changed its accounting
method to reflect the non-cash expense of the use of its facilities, which
