Car guys find their place on the Net
ry, post a new

com. They will
find everything
they need including the latest in
online
sales,
Internet training, tips from other car
guys, how to provide great service or
their secrets to success in selling cars.
What makes this news is that car
dealers have not been able to buy and
sell new car inventory this way before.
It may prove to simplify the way new
car dealers buy and sell their new car
inventories. Saving them time and
money in moving excess inventories.
After an exhaustive search, I found
two sites, automotivenews.com and fimagazine.com/forum, that provide
dealers an opportunity to review issues
important to them. Sure there are lots
Whenever there is big tech news
being made by the auto industry, it
generally comes from the auto manufacturers or labor unions. Today,
dealerships can take their turn at
making big tech news. When I got a
chance to eavesdrop on Doug Oakes,
David Ballinger and Simon Soaf, officers of a new website for car dealers, Erwin Aguayo
I listened closely.
This month a whole new way for local
car dealers like Bunky Gandy’s Auto
Exchange, Lake Norman Chrysler, or
Huntersville Chevrolet to buy or sell
new car inventory and receive a whole
host of other dealer services will be
available. DealerIndustry.com will
launch the first site developed by car
dealers for car dealers.
There is no doubt the Internet has
made a big impact on the car business
and no one is more aware of this than
car dealers. Next time a salesman or
manager from Huntersville Ford is
looking to sell or buy new car invento-
of car sites on the net… almost every
dealer in the country has one.
Consumers love the net for car buying.
Aside from any dealer’s website they
can
search
sites
such
as
Autotrader.com,
AutoWeb.com,
Edmunds.com or the granddaddy of
them all the Kelly Blue Book at
KBB.com.
Doug Oakes, himself a car dealer
says, “Several of us dealers thought
that it would be neat to have a destination for helping car guys manage their
auto business. We want to empower
everyone with the knowledge and ideas
that all great car people want to share
with one another. Unfortunately, there
isn’t a University of Auto Sales where
people can go to learn this great business. We usually learn what we know
from the guy that trained us. Now, we
will provide an online format for everyone involved in selling cars to pick up a
great idea that may increase the dealership’s sales.”
When you think about the net, it’s all
May 2008
THIS MONTH
about the exchange of information.
The folks at DealerIndustry.com
seemed to have created a convenient
information exchange so that the
General Manager at Parks Chevrolet
can learn from General Mangers located in different parts of the country with
just a click.
But it’s not just about car dealers, the
site gives anyone involved with buying,
selling or just interested in working
with cars a cornucopia of information.
Cabarrus, Concord, Cornelius and
Lake Norman banks, credit unions and
finance companies who offer car financing can access the site and find new
ways to help dealers and customers get
deals closed. Simon Soaf, an experienced dealer finance manager, now
with DealerIndustry.com says, “The
site could help banks and customers
find solutions to financing their cars.”
After listening in, I asked them what
does all this mean to dealers in North
Charlotte like Modern Nissan of Lake
Norman, Lake Norman Infinity, Toyota
of Lake Norman, Keffer Mitsubishi or
Volkswagen and Randy Marion
Pontiac?
David Ballinger summed it up this
way, “Basically, it comes back to the
same thing, dealerships always have
staff turnover problems, training problems, inventory turnover problems.
They need to manage their stock more
effectively, get more productivity and to
help them make more money
DealerIndustry.com brings it all together for them.”
This maybe how, Car Guys Find
Their Place on the Net.
