TheladiesofJuniorAuxiliaryarepleasedtoannounceour16thyearofservicetothechildrenandfamiliesof
DeSotoCountywithourannualsignatureevent, Crown Benefit! Thisannualcelebrationisasemi-formal
eveningfullofdeliciousfoodanddrink,dancing,luxuryauctionitems,andmore,allbenefitingthemissionof
sustainingahappy,healthylifestyleforthechildrenofDeSotoCounty.Hundredsofcitizensjoinwithusin
fulfillingthisgoal,andweinviteyoutobecomeapartnerinmakingadifference!
Lastyearour148volunteermembersprovidedalmost8,000hoursofdirectserviceforourcommunity.The
ladiesofJuniorAuxiliaryworkedwithchildrenlikeWill,achildwithspecialneeds.Hewasabletoparticipate
inhisfirstartclassesattheMagnoliaSchool,aplacewherewehaveongoingprogramsforbothteachersand
students.VolunteersfilledbrandnewbackpacksforchildrenlikeDestiny,whowasabletobeginschoolwith
allthesuppliessheneededforclass.NewshoesandnewwarmcoatsweregiventochildrenlikeMarcus,who
wentthroughthewintermonthswarmandshieldedfromthecoldonhiswalkhomefromschool.
WhenfriendsofthecommunitysupportJuniorAuxiliary,theyaresupportingchildrenlikeWill,Destiny,and
Marcus,andtheirentirefamilies.Theyareprovidingglasses,beds,books,visitstothedentist,emotional
support,andeducationalprograms.Theyareteachingchildrenhowtokeepthemselvessafefrompredators,
familieshowtokeepthemselveshealthy,andthenextgenerationofcommunityleadershowtocareforthe
mostvulnerableamongus.
JuniorAuxiliaryofDeSotoCountyisworkinghardeverydaytoreachasmanyfamiliesaspossible,butwe
cannotdothisimportantworkwithoutthehelpandsupportofourcommunity.Aswecontinueoursecond
decadeofservice,weaskyoutopartnerwithusinourendeavorsandbecomeasponsorof Crown Benefit.
Yourpartnershipisvaluable,andwewanttothankyouforyourgenerositybyacknowledgingyour
contributionpubliclyinavarietyofways.Detailsareoutlinedintheenclosedbooklet.Asa501(c)(3)

KeepingItRealinaVirtualWorld-InkeepingwiththeNationalAssociationofJuniorAuxiliary'sfocus,
our2015-2016provisionalclassdevelopedaprogramtointroducetheappropriateuseofsocialmedia.
This program was presented to elementary school children and Girl Scout troops within DeSoto
County.

PalmerHomeforChildren-TheJAProvisionalClassprovidesassistanceandhelpwithrespitecareby
providingquarterlyoutingsforthechildren.Eachquarterthechildrenparticipateindifferentactivities
suchasswimming,fishing,ballgames,andmovies.
DeSotoCountyHighSchoolScholarshipProgram-JAoffers
three $1,000 scholarships to local high school students that
exemplify Charity, Youth,
Health, Leadership, and
Service.
• Newfor2016-2017CharacterCabins–Memberswillplace
little library houses throughout the county at parks and
playgroundswherechildren/adultswhodon’thavecloseaccessto
alocallibrarycanborrow/returnusedbooksthroughouttheyear.
• P.A.L.S.-ThisprojectassistsDeSotoCountySchoolchildren
as identified by school counselors by providing aid and lending support for basic necessities and
supplies.
Autism Early Intervention Golf Tournament - JA works with
other community partners to raise money for DeSoto County
childrendiagnosedwithdisorderswithintheautismspectrum.JA
helps provide lunch and sponsors games for children at this
event.
Jump Back to School - This annual “back to school” party is for
children in need in DeSoto County Schools. The children
participateinavarietyoffunactivities,andcelebratewithcake
andpunch.Eachchildleaveswithschoolsupplies,shoeschosenjustforhim/her,andbackpacks.
•
GirlsU-Thisprogramisadaycampfor6th
grade girls chosen by their school counselors. The day
camp includes art lessons, information for college and
career choices, and workshops for self-image, internet
safety,nutrition,andetiquette.Participantsgohomewith
door prizes, a t-shirt, and information related to the
workshops so they can continue to learn about the
themespresentedduringtheprogram.
•
GirlsUAllYearThrough-Thisprojectallowsmembers
topartnerwithgirlsfromGirlsUtoestablisha
mentoringrelationshipthroughpenpals.Subjects
taughtatGirlsUarereinforced,andthegirlsare
broughtbacktogetherforquarterlyactivities.

Newfor2016-2017CoatsforKids-Thisevent
buildsuponourJumpBacktoSchoolprogram.
ThechildrenweserveatJumpBacktoSchool
willbe
invitedtoattendaFallFestivalevent(games,activities,food)
andreceiveanewcoatforthewinterseason.
• Crown Club - JA sponsors a group of high school girls,
aiding them in developing leadership skills, good character
and
good
citizenship.
•
Adopt-A-School - JA provides a mentoring relationship
through monthly art sessions at Magnolia School, a
positive behavioral program for special education
students.
• Healthy Today, Healthy Tomorrow - This familyorientedhealthfairfocusesonbeinghealthyfromtheinsideout.FamiliesfromalloverDeSotoCounty
areencouragedtojoinour40+vendorstoparticipateinarun/walk,exercisedemos,nutritiontalks,
healthscreenings,fingerprinting,weightmanagementsolutions,zumba,andmuchmore!

JACares-JACaresallowsmembersto
stepinwithheartsandhandstoofferhelpandsuppliestothosewhoneed
immediateassistance.Wealsoholddrivestohelpvictimsofnatural
disastersinoursurroundingarea.
