Aerodrome Briefing Card
GEOGRAPHICAL DATA
The AD is situated 19nm WSW of the city
close to the shoreline of the Tyrrhenian
Sea. The surrounding terrain is flat, except
for a few spotheights less than 300ft.
Some OBST, smokestacks up to 400ft
close to the NE. The river Tevere (Tiber)
is floating S of the AD.

There are several other AD within the area.
1.3
Be aware of the restricted areas, particularly the Vatican city.

2.1
WEATHER
Mediterranean climate with dry warm
summers and mild, rainy winters. Mean
MAX/MNM temperatures +23.3 °/+17.7°C
and +12.7°/+3.8°C in JUL/JAN respectively.
2.2
During the summer season Roma enjoys
favourable weather conditions, only broken
by infrequent local thunderstorms.
2.3
During the winter there is some frontal
activity with associated low clouds and CB
build-ups. In addition there is possibility of
fog developing in near calm morning hours.
This is because the AD is surrounded by
a partly swampy plain which increases the
risk of radiation fog. However the close
proximity to the sea which remains warm
at night, will cause some mixing of the air
thus lifting the fog/low ST sufficiently to
keep the AD open.

When W winds prevail at night, Fiumicino
may be closed due to advection fog, while
Roma/Ciampino probably will stay open.

TWY RESTRICTION
ACFT LDG or DEP on RWY 16L/34R:
Before using TWY D must obtain specific
authorization from TWR.
RWY RESTRICTION
Former RWY 16C/34C is identified and
used as TWY D.
In special circumstances TWY D may be

LOW VISIBILITY PROCEDURE
Whenever conditions are such that all or
part of the manoeuvring area cannot be
visually monitored from the tower, taxiing
operations shall be carried out according to
the instructions and information provided by

The following reference points are available
for aircraft movements:
a. RWY 16R:
- Runway holding position (RHP)
AA1 and AA2;
- Intermediate Holding Position
(IHP): A1 (TWY A), L2 (2 pos:

ARRIVAL
CAUTION
Due to mirrors for solar power station, pilots
leaving VOR/DME CMP for ILS RWY16L/R,
may occasionally experience sunbeam
reflected upward.
SPEED
On RAD vectors (if not otherwise instructed)
reduce IAS to:
210kt at 12nm from RWY THR.
180kt at 8nm from RWY THR.
160kt at 4nm from RWY THR.
NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURE
Circling RWY 34L:
If MET condtions allow, fly E of AD
right hand circuit MNM 2000ft.
Start base turn when over the shore so
as to complete MNM 1500ft and APRX
6nm from RWY THR.
- When traffic conditions allow ATC
may authorise ACFT to fly E of AD
right hand circuit (MNM 1000ft)
and to make the turn NW of Ostia
town to avoid overflying.
Circling RWY 34R and 25:
If MET condions allow, overfly Ostia town
MNM 2000ft.

Do not leave RWY before TWY AF.
Do not use more than idle reverse if
possible.

LDG RWY 16L/34R
Report “RWY vacated”.
When RWY 25 is in use for LDG,
ACFT taxiing on TWY C or D must
request specific authorization to cross
“stop-bar” when switched on.
ACFT vacating RWY 34R via rapid
exits DF or DD must continue to
TWY D.
Do not use more than idle reverse if
possible.
ACFT landing will be instructed
“continue standard one” standard 1
routing is to monitor GND 121.9 and
taxi on TWY D to hold EG.

LDG RWY 34L
Vacate RWY via TWY AE and AD and hold
at IHP AD1.
If authorised by ATC and when RWY not in
use, vacate via RWY 07/25.
If unable to vacate via the above, vacate
RWY via TWY AC, AB or AA.
Report “RWY vacated”.
Do not use more than idle reverse if
possible.

LDG RWY 16C
Exit CD, CE and CH not allowed.
Proceed straight on along TWY D.
8.
LDG RWY 34C
RWY must be vacated not further than
intersection CD towards TWY C.
9.2
LDG RWY 16L:
Vacate via TWY DG to APN.
If unable, use TWY DH and report when
reaching stop-bar D25 APP North, TWR
instruction must be followed to IHP D2.
If RVR less than 150m, wait for follow-me
vehicle to be escorted to stand.
If unable to vacate on TWY DG or DH
ACFT must vacate RWY on TWY DL,
inform TWR when reachING stop-bar DL
and wait to be authorized to proceed via
TWY D.
Report to TWR when sensitive area are
vacated.

TWY RESTRICTION
TWY CF: B777 taxi with caution.

RWY 16L/34R LAND AFTER
PROCEDURE
Land after procedure only AVBL during
daylight hours and when the RWY is dry
and free of any kind of precipitation.
When applying “Land After Procedures”
ATC will give the second ACFT the instruction:
“Land after preceding (ACFT type)
landing on RWY XX”
The responsibility to ensure separation
rests with the pilot of the second ACFT.

COMMUNICATION FAILURE

for follow-me vehicle.

GENERAL
MULTIPLE LINE-UPS
With the methods described for TKOF
from intermediate TKOF points (Start Point
Intersection TKOF), line-up instructions on
different points of same RWY can be given
to no more than two ACFT according to the
following conditions:
On RWY 25 only and during daylight
HR.
Visibility 5km or more and cloudbase
1000 or more.
Line-up[ shall take place at
intersections BB and BA.
Pilot’s read-back shall contain RWY
