December 16th is our Holiday Celebration
Pre-Meeting – Bob Torkelson
Bring your holiday goodies and treats for all to enjoy. Tables will have tablecloths
for you to showcase and to decorate with your favorite personal holiday theme.
Bob Torkelson has returned to Arizona for the winter season and will perform
holiday festive music for us as the pre-meeting entertainment.
7:00 Jared and the Mill
Jared and the Mill are six local band members that formed in
2011. Their successes grew in 2012 and 2013, playing both
locally and cross country. Showcasing their talents in southwestern influenced themes, their music has been a creation
of a broad range of American styles and talents. Their first
record, Western Expansion, “speaks for where we have been
and where we are going.” The album has been featured on
the nationally aired television show Nashville as well as on
local radio stations My103.9 and 107.9 KMLE Country Radio.
Featured in the band on the accordion is our own Gabe HallRodrigues, AAA Accordion Virtuoso Champion for 2010.
Please contact Phil Fox (480-427-2394) to schedule a time to play at the Arizona Accordion Club December holiday
festival

MENU for DECEMBER 16, 2013 - A typical holiday meal with all the trimmings.
NOVEMBER 18, 2013 MEETING - An evening featuring Dale Mathies and Bob
Doszak by Raye Donatella
Pre-meeting music was played by Dale Mathies. He began with an old Christmas
song “My Two Front Teeth,” and progressed into a wonderful variation of tunes, both
Christmas and regular songs. Dale plays a pretty red Roland accordion that has all the
words to all the songs right in front of his face. He played and sang for over an hour,
all of it really nice. Thanks, Dale.
Next up was our club president, Phil Fox. Phil played the three themes from “The
Godfather.” Very nicely done, Phil.
Lester Rossner was back! He and his wife, Zophie, came to tell all
of us good-byes they are moving to Chicago - we shall miss them
terribly!!
So Pete Donatella and Jerry Szymanski sat down with Lester for a
last few fun tunes together. They began with “Besame Mucho,”
“Cafe Polka,” “Penthouse Serenade,” “I’m In the Mood For
Love,” “Cave Creek Polka ( an original polka written by Jerry
Szymanski) ending with “All of Me.” Then an encore of
“Pennsylvania Polka.” Lester, you will be missed!!
Chuck Voinivich
hasn’t played for
us for a couple of
years - he played
“Twilight Time,”
then one I can’t
remember the
name of, then
“Robert E. Lee,”
and finished up
with a John Denver song, “Come,
Love Me Again.”
That was really
enjoyable, Chuck
- it was so good to
hear you again.
The evening’s headliner, Bob
Doszak was up now - he played
and sang more songs than I can
list, but some of them were “It
Had To Be You,” “Sentimental
Me,” “Hayride Polka,”
“Drinking Champagne,”
“Don’t Take Your Love From
Me,” “Mala Femena” and so
many others - he played lots of
songs with audience participation, country and western songs,
and German and Polish songs Bob, you have a wonderful repertoire and you sound great on
all of them! He finished his set
with “Goodnight, Irene” and
“Show Me the Way To Go
Home.” What a fun time thanks, Bob.

President’s Message
We received another generous gift last month from concertina artist
Joel Wanha of Peoria AZ. He donated two beautiful accordions that
will be available at Ziggieʼs next month. Thank you, Joel.
I’m looking forward to our December 16th meeting which is our holiday festival. We are featuring a young, talented, group of musicians
that are all Phoenix area natives, including Gabe Rodrigues on the
accordion. Jared and the Mill have a strong local following with the
ASU crowd and are moving up. ( www.jaredandthemill.com )
Bring your favorite holiday cookies, cakes, deserts and goodies for all
to share and enjoy. Remember to bring some holiday decorations for
your table.
Planned for January 20th meeting include Frank Schweller and the
Dixie Devils, the Dixieland “ASU Boosters” that we enjoyed last year
at the AAC Concert. Tentative for February 17th are Todd Hagen
and Samantha Harvey from Los Angeles
( http://samharveymusic.wix.com/samharvey).
March’s schedule is very rich
March 17th might be a repeat of our successful “Ladies’ Night.”
Don’t miss the last Mesa (formerly the Frank Marocco) Accordion
Orchestra concert is February 16th at the Arizona Golf Resort in
Mesa. Some of our members, including myself and Paul Betkin are
members of the 50 accordion orchestra.
March 15th is Arizona Accordion Club Picnic day at Papago Park .
March will be our 3rd Annual AAC Spring Concert. (date TBD)
Please continue pitching in to move tables and the sound system after
the meeting. I need all of you who enjoy our meetings and performances to help in the cleanup and teardown of the hall tables at the
end of the meeting. Please stay an extra five to ten minutes after the
close of the meeting to allow us to keep a good relationship with the
church and their staff members.
Join us December 16th, bring your accordion, or other instruments,
and play your holiday tunes for all to enjoy.
Keep on squeezin’

Last, but truly not least, we had a surprise visit from Anthony Rolando. Anthony
played “Granada,” “Tico, Tico,” then he was joined by his wife, Valerie, for a lovely
version of “Love Me With All Your Heart.” Then Anthony played a beautiful unknown song to finish and close out the evening. Thank you, Anthony and Valerie, don’t be strangers.
See you on December 16th.
