Small change that changes lives
Next month we will all gather together at the Annual Meeting of Members to decide on the direction our cooperative should take in the coming year which will be our
75th Anniversary. It is through the power of cooperation that this co-op was founded
and is still running strong today.
I would like to remind you of another way in which the power of human connections can make a difference and that is through the Operation Round Up® program.
Members who agree to participate allow Berkeley Electric Cooperative to “round up”
their monthly electric bill to the next highest dollar. For example, a bill of $55.75 would
rounds up to $56.00 with the additional $0.25 going to the Operation Round Up® fund.
This fund is administered by the Berkeley Electric Cooperative Trust, a board of
volunteer directors made up of community leaders. All Operation Round Up® funds
stay right here in the Lowcountry. Guidelines for awarding this money address needs
such as home repairs and other community services. Typical projects include vital home
repairs such as roofs, floors, doors, walls and plumbing and A/C repair or replacement.
The slogan of Operation Round Up® is "small change that changes lives" and it is
easy to see why. The amount “rounded up” on each participating customer’s bill averages a total of $6 per year. The monthly bill shows how much is donated each month,
along with a year-end statement. The amount contributed to Operation Round Up® is
tax deductible as tax laws permit.
We feel so strongly about the positive impact of this program that all Berkeley
Electric Cooperative members are automatically enrolled when they sign up for service.
However, members can also opt-out of the program at any time that they choose by
simply contacting their local district office.
To apply for funds, simply call or visit your local district office to receive an application. If you need assistance completing an application, stop by our office and a
member service representative will be glad to assist you.
As I mentioned before, the strength of a cooperative comes from the power of human connections. Let's continue to grow stronger together in the next 75 years.

Auditors' Report
We have audited the accompanying consolidated
balance sheets of Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc.
and Subsidiaries (the "Corporation'') as of December 31,
2013 and 2012, and the related consolidated statements
of revenues and patronage capital, and cash flows for the
years then ended and the related notes to the financial
statements.
Management is responsible for the preparation and
fair presentation on these consolidated financial statements in accordance with accounting principles generally
accepted in the United States of America; this includes
the design, implementation, and maintenance of internal
control relevant to the preparation and fair presentation of
consolidated financial statements that are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.
Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these
consolidated financial statements based on our audits. We
conducted our audit in accordance with auditing standards
generally accepted in the United States of America and
the standards applicable to financial audits contained in
Government Auditing Standards, issued by the Comptroller General of the United States. Those standards require
that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable
assurance about whether the financial statements are free
of material misstatement.
An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about amounts and disclosures in the
consolidated financial statements. The procedures selected
depend on the auditor's judgment, including the assessment of risks of material misstatement of the consolidated financial statements, whether due to fraud or error.
In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers
internal control relevant to the entity's preparation and
fair presentation of the consolidated financial statements
in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate
in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the entity's internal
control.
Accordingly, we express no such opinion. An audit also
includes the evaluating the appropriateness of accounting
policies used and the reasonableness of significant estimates
made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the consolidated financial statements.
We believe the audit evidence we have obtained is
sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit
opinion.
In our opinion, the financial statements referred to
above present fairly, in all material respects, the financial
position of Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Inc. and Subsidiaries as of December 31,2013 and 2012 and the results
of their operations and their cash flows for the years then
ended, in conformity with accounting principles generally
accepted in the United States of America.
