NO HIGHER CALLING
A NEWSLETTER OF THE KENTUCKY TENNESSEE LITERATURE EVANGELISTS
“There is no higher work than evangelistic canvassing, for it involves the performance of the highest moral duties.
Those who engage in this work need always to be under the control of the Spirit of God.” - CM 12
The Power of “Paper & Ink”
Disciples of Jesus:
In my “thirty-plus” years in the Literature Ministry, I’ve read the “Conflict of the Ages” series numerous times. While I have my favorites
for various personal reasons, the most powerful of these books must be The Great Controversy! I’m reading it through again for, I believe, my 15th time. The courage of the Reformers and their example of diligence, self-denial & sacrifice, willingness to accept poverty
for the gospel’s sake, overwhelming burden for the souls of others; including their enemies, boldness in the face of death, weary days in
cold dark dungeons, months of untiring labor in the study & translation of the scriptures, speaks strongly to my heart. I read of how the
peasants would put on the best clothing they owned, the women and maidens their best dresses, as if going to their wedding, and the
royalty would put on their best attire for the day of their execution. Burned at the stake, buried alive, strangled and beheaded with songs
on their lips, prayers and forgiveness for those persecuting them, smiles on their faces which were shining with the light of heaven.
Then there is the bravery of the hundreds of Colporteurs who, at the risk of their lives, went from door-to-door, city-to-city, village-tovillage and all over the mountains and countryside carrying the Holy Scriptures that had painstakingly been hand-written and duplicated
in the early days, by hand, again and again. Later, when printing was invented, the scriptures were circulated by thousands of copies.
Writing about Tyndale in The Great Controversy E. G. White says, “At last he made his way to Worms, where, a few years before, Luther had defended the gospel before the Diet. In that ancient city were many friends of the Reformation, and Tyndale there prosecuted
his work without further hindrance. Three thousand copies of the New Testament were soon finished, and another edition followed in the
same year.” “…the word of God was in various ways secretly conveyed… and thence circulated throughout the country.” GC 246
“Tyndale was betrayed into the hands of his enemies, and at one time suffered imprisonment for many months. He finally witnessed for
his faith by a martyr’s death; but the weapons which he prepared have enabled other soldiers to do battle through all the centuries even
to our time.” GC 247
“With the opening of the Great Reformation came the writings of Luther, and then Tyndale’s English New Testament. Unnoticed by the
hierarchy, these messengers silently traversed the mountains and valleys, kindling into new life the torch of truth so nearly extinguished
in Scotland, and undoing the work which Rome for four centuries of oppression had done.” GC 249. And finally, a quote from Tyndale
that underlines the “Power of ‘Paper & Ink,”… “It was not long after that when a learned Catholic doctor, engaging in controversy with
him, exclaimed: “We were better to be without God’s laws than the pope’s.” Tyndale replied: “I defy the pope and all his laws; and if God
spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy that driveth the plow to know more of the Scripture than you do." GC 246
There’s a power in print, including the electronic version that will last until Jesus comes. Governments may censor the internet, close
down our television & radio ministries, close our churches, hunt down and imprison our Pastors and Colporteurs but they will never find
or recover all of the billions of truth-filled books and tracts the modern day Waldensian Colporteur has faithfully circulated!
Carrying forward the Great Reformation,
Rocky
“The church must give her attention to the canvassing work. This is one way in which she is to shine in the world.
Then she will go forth, fair as the moon, clear as the sun and terrible as an army with banners.” RH Jan. 1, 1901

Look for The Hidden Blessings
When You Meet a Challenge!
Adapted from SUCCESS.COM
Why a positive mental attitude is indispensable to your success
Brian Tracy - October 20, 2015
It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you—especially when there are
unexpected problems.
Here are four things you can do to assure that your attitude is the very best it can be, no matter what the circumstance:
1. Focus on the future:
Whatever challenges you face, focus on the future rather than on the past. Instead of worrying about who did what
and who is to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do. Get a clear mental image of your
ideal successful future, and then take whatever action you can to begin moving in that direction. Get your mind,
your thoughts and your mental images on the future.
2. Think about the solution:
Whenever you’re faced with a difficulty, focus on the solution rather than on the problem. Think and talk about the
ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing and reflecting on the problem. Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative. Take some time to write out every detail of
the problem, and then take the most logical next step to solve it. The instant that you begin thinking in terms of
solutions, you become a positive and constructive human being.
3. Look for the good:
Assume that something good is hidden within each difficulty or challenge. Norman Vincent Peale, a major proponent of positive thinking, once said, “Whenever God wants to give us a gift, he wraps it up in a problem.” The bigger the gift you have coming, the bigger the problem you will receive. But the wonderful thing is that if you look for
the gift, you will always find it.
4. Seek the lesson:
Assume that whatever situation you are facing at the moment is exactly the right situation you need to ultimately
be successful. This situation has been sent to you to help you learn something , to help you become better, to help
you expand and grow. So seek for the valuable lesson in every adversity. Make a list of every idea or insight you can
gain from every setback or difficulty. A positive mental attitude is indispensable to your success. You can be as positive as you want to be if you will simply think about the future and look for the good. If you do what other successful people do, if you use your mind to exert mental control over the situation, you will be positive and cheerful most
of the time. And you will reap the benefits enjoyed by all successful people.
