Scholar Bowl off to a buzzing start
By Taylor Bundren
Scholar Bowl has started up
again this year, and the eager
members have been practicing
since October.
VHS’s Scholar Bowl’s first
match was held at Goreville High
School on November 13. It was a
close Varsity game, but Goreville
slowly edged ahead, winning the
match. VHS JV left with a win.
Scholar Bowl had a victorious
second match all around. During
this home match against Meridian,
both Varsity and Junior Varsity
won.
VHS’s third match took place
on November 20 at Pope County
High School. It was a close Varsity
match, but VHS lost. JV also was
defeated.
The team is excited for
more matches after Christmas
break, and also is proud of the Varsity team members face off against Pope County on November 20. From left:

VHS Cheer squad wows the crowd
By Rachael Ren
Vienna High School is headed
into a new season with a squad
composed of 16 girls and 1 boy.
This is the biggest squad that the
school has seen in quite some time,
and the team is excited to support
the Eagles with bigger numbers.
Coach Toni Henderson has big
plans to impress the community.
“In the past, there hasn’t been a
phenomenal team. Our plans this
year are to blow everyone’s minds
and wow the Eagle fans,” Coach
Henderson said.
The team is hopeful for this
season, and they are ready to
support Eagles basketball. Squad
members are energized about how
many students are on the team this
year.
Also in the future are plans
for competing. Coach Henderson
said, “We want to compete, but we
are not labeled as a competitive
squad yet. We are hoping to get the
approval from IHSA in the near
future.”
The squad prepared for Meet
the Eagles, held on November
15. The group had three different
routines and stunt sequences
prepared for the annual event.
The VHS cheerleading squad is
ready for a great season and many
more to come.

Louisville Bound:FFA Nationals
Submitted by Austin Tuey
On Octobter 29, the Future
Farmers of America (FFA) headed
to Louisville, Kentucky for the 87th
National FFA Convention where
more than 64,000 FFA members
from across the U.S. attended.
On October 30, the club
attended the opening session. They
listened to the guest speaker, Jeff
Simmons, the President of Elanco.
Simmons talked about how there
will be over nine billion mouths to
feed by the year 2050.
The club had a blast going
to places such as the Louisville
Slugger Museum. The students got
to watch proffessional baseball bats
being made, and Junior Nathaniel
Ross got the opportunity to hold
Derek Jeter’s bat. They toured
Mammoth Cave where they were
250 feet below Earth’s surface,
and visited Churchill Downs, the
hosting racetrack for the Kentucky
Derby. The Club also had some fun
when they went to race go-karts.
