Community - Margaret Mary Health
2014 Community
Report to our
A Letter from Our Leaders
As the healthcare landscape rapidly evolves,
it is more important than ever for hospitals to
form partnerships to provide a continuum of
high-quality care. At Margaret Mary Health, we
know we can meet these increasing challenges
if we partner with others who share our
commitment to improving our community’s
health. Some examples of these successful
partnerships are highlighted in this report.
George E. Junker II, Board of Directors Chairman
Timothy Putnam, DHA, Hospital President/CEO
Our most important partnership, of course, is
with you, our patients. We are active partners
in your health and wellness and we put you at
the center of everything we do, now and in the
future.

Our success depends on partnerships with our outstanding medical staff and our dedicated
team members who deliver compassionate care every day. Other partners include the
board of directors, volunteers and our Foundation.
Margaret Mary is proud to partner with some of the most recognized healthcare
institutions in the region including the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for stroke
and neuroscience services and the Christ Hospital for cardiac and trauma care. Locally, we
team up with area EMS squads and the Ripley County paramedics who help save lives in the
field and transition our critically ill patients.
To assure we have enough qualified healthcare professionals for the future, we partner with
Marian University, Ivy Tech, the East Indiana Area Health Education Center and Batesville
High School. We also work closely with nursing homes, social service agencies, non-profit
organizations, local governments and area businesses to identify and meet various health
and wellness challenges.
We are grateful for the support and collaboration of these fine organizations and to you for
your continued trust in us. Thank you for being our partner.

HIGHLIGHTS
EBOLA PREPAREDNESS
As a result of the Ebola cases in Texas,
Margaret Mary Health worked closely
with local and state agencies and
developed a preparedness plan which
included training staff on how to safely
put on and take off personal protective
equipment to prevent the virus from
spreading.

CHEST PAIN CENTER
In 2014, Margaret Mary continued to partner
with local EMS (above) to ensure systems are
in place to treat heart attack patients quickly
before permanent damage occurs. Margaret
Mary is accredited through the Christ
Hospital Chest Pain Network.
ADDRESSING THE
PHYSICIAN SHORTAGE
As concern grows
regarding the
nationwide physician
shortage, Margaret
Mary is proactively
doing its part to ensure
you have access to the
care you need. We’ve
partnered with Marian
University, Ivy Tech, the
East Indiana Area Health
Education Center and
Batesville High School
to provide shadowing
opportunities to a
variety of students.
In addition to actively
recruiting more
physicians and medical
specialists, we’ve also
hired a number of
nurse practitioners and
physician assistants.

THINK PINK BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Last October, 200 women attended the eighth
annual “Think Pink,” a breast cancer awareness
event complete with speakers, appetizers,
Zumba, prizes and pampering treatments.
Thanks to the help of our local breast cancer
support group, the event raises money for the
Health Foundation’s cancer care fund.
CARING FOR OUR
COMMUNITY
HEALTH SCREENINGS
We are committed to the early detection,
prevention and treatment of disease.
That’s why we offer a number of health
screenings, including blood pressure,
body composition, blood sugar, vascular,
cholesterol and sports physicals.
Last year, MMH partnered with local
physicians, such as Dr. John Gryspeerdt
(pictured), to offer sports physicals to
students at a discounted price.
-8-
HOSPICE 5K
More than 300 people took part in the 16th
annual Hospice 5k held in April. Thanks to our
community’s generous support, we raised more
than $7,300. Hospice helps those with terminal
illnesses who are no longer actively seeking a
medical cure, but wish to live as comfortably and
pain-free as possible. In the fall, MMH also held
the Hope Walk to celebrate our cancer survivors
and remember those who lost their lives to the
disease.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Girls on the Run is an
after-school program
that inspires girls to
be joyful, healthy
and confident using
a fun curriculum
which integrates
running. In 2014,
376 girls took part in
the program at nine
different schools in
Ripley and Decatur
counties. New this
year, Margaret Mary
will be expanding the

A Letter from Our Leaders
Our Health Foundation
Time and time again when we speak with donors,
we hear stories of how Margaret Mary Health has
impacted their families, friends and neighbors.
Whether thankful for a new lease on life after
a serious medical condition, the safe delivery
of a child or the compassionate end-of-life care
provided to a hospice patient, our patients and
their families are truly grateful.
The Margaret Mary Health Foundation is honored
to receive numerous monetary contributions,
in-kind gifts and hours of volunteer support.
William Hillenbrand II, Board of Directors Chairman
Although each person’s reason for giving is
Mary Dickey, Executive Director
unique, they all share a common thread. They
want to make a difference. When you make a
gift, you may never know the names or the faces of those you touch through your generosity;
however, please know your kindness makes healing possible every day.
To each of you who believe so deeply in our vision for the future of healthcare in our
communities - thank you. We hope you take great pride in the difference you are making for
this generation and the next. Thank you for your continued support.

many donations from organizations
throughout our community. Pictured, the

A MILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN
Last year, the generosity of the Hillenbrand family
brought about the Health Foundation’s first major
campaign, the Hillenbrand Family Leadership Challenge.
Led by Nancy and Gus Hillenbrand’s generous $500,000
donation, the Hillenbrand family came together to
donate a total of $1 million to help ensure the future of
Nancy and Gus Hillenbrand
quality, compassionate care at Margaret Mary. “We’re
challenging the community to raise another $1 million by the end of 2015 through
gifts and pledges,” said Mary Dickey, the Health Foundation Executive Director.
“Margaret Mary has provided exceptional care to the families of our
communities for more than 80 years and they are committed to continuing
that care for years to come,” wrote Nancy and Gus Hillenbrand. “We hope you
will join us in making a difference in the lives of all of our families by making an
investment in Margaret Mary.”
Donors can designate their gift to the fund of their choosing - area of greatest need,
cancer care, education, capital improvements, health and wellness or hospice. To
donate, visit www.mmhealth.org/health-foundation.html or call Mary Dickey at
812.933.5141.
NEW TELEHEALTH EQUIPMENT
In 2014, the Health Foundation purchased new Telehealth
patient monitoring equipment for use by some of our
most at-risk Home Health patients. With this wireless
in-home system, our caregivers are able to conveniently
monitor the weight, blood pressure, pulse and oxygen
saturation of patients. Having immediate access to this
patient data helps our providers intervene sooner to
prevent readmissions and improve patient outcomes.
-14-
The Health Foundation was established in 2012 as a way to
engage those we serve as partners in health improvement.
The Foundation encourages gifts of support to ensure
the hospital’s legacy of quality care continues for future

A Named Fund is an excellent opportunity for families to establish a permanent endowment in their name or the name of someone they wish to honor or remember. It
