Guidelines for participating in Holi Dance sponsored by HTS
Below are broad guidelines for participating in the Holi program which is held in the April/
May timeframe by HTS. These guidelines may be altered under very special circumstances
but apply to majority of the participants and dances. These guidelines are put together by
the program committee in consultation with various other individuals who participate actively in community events.

Minimum age for participation is six. Participants need to have celebrated their sixth
birthday before January 15th.

New participants should send an email to [email protected] to participate
in Holi with the name, age and phone number of the participant. Requests to be enrolled in a particular group may be made at the time. Every effort will be made to fulfill
the request unless the group is filled but there are no guarantees.

Participants will stay with the same group each year from the time they start participating in Holi. They will not be allowed to switch groups from year to year, this helps
build a bond between the participants as well as makes it easier for the organizers to
handle groups each year. Program committee may combine groups at their discretion
if a lot of kids drop out and the groups become very small.

Participants and parents need to make a firm commitment to the Holi dance and make
sure practices are attended very sincerely. The choreographers are volunteers who put
in a lot of effort in teaching the dances and want to make sure their dance is flawless
and crisp on stage. It isn’t fair to the other participants who attend practices regularly
as well as to the choreographer since the kids missing practice are not as well prepared
as others.

To choreograph a Holi dance, the choreographer needs to be a senior in High School.
Every senior will not be allowed to choreographer. Choreographers are picked based
on talent, attitude, respect toward others, respect for Temple rules and respect towards
other kids, adults and the committee members.

All songs have to be approved by the program committee. This serves a two-fold purpose; it prevents repetition as well as makes sure songs are censored to meet Temple
standards.

All participants need to be absolutely respectful of the choreographer in terms of following instructions as well as maintaining respect and concentration when practices are
on. The purpose of Holi is developing social skills, making friends and enjoying the experience as well and should be done during breaks and before and after practices.

The Hindu Temple is starting a ‘Gift for a Day’ program. The Donors can pick a day of their choice such as
anniversary, birthdays, etc., and make a ‘Gift for that Day’ to the temple. On that day they can attend the
‘Rudra Abhishekam’ to Shiva in the morning. Whether they are present or not, the ‘Abhisheka Puja’ will be
done in their names and Kumkum Prasad will be mailed. They can visit the temple on that day and have an
Archana service performed. One can memorialize loved ones with a gift for a day. Based on the temple’s
annual budget, the expense per day is around $401. So, a gift donation of $401 will pay for the temple’s one
day’s expenses - the lights, the utilities, the priests, the flowers, puja materials, etc. And that amount is set as
the ‘Gift for a Day’ donation. Donors making a donation of $1001 and above can select three Gift for a Day
dates.
