As I sit down to write the newsletter we are 11
days and a wake-up till the start of Race Week
and the opening race with the VO-70’s. Councilmember Lorie Zaph from the 2nd District, which
includes Mission Bay, will be there to present the
City’s Proclamation and to kick off the Event.
There are 89 boats entered and skippers from 20
different clubs and 6 states other than California.
Unfortunately, turnout has been impacted by the
economy, cost of travel and a lot of the older
skippers retiring from the sport. That
notwithstanding, we are going to have a great
event, with six classes qualifying for National
Championships. We will accept late entries.

Don’t miss the 3 Annual San Diego Cup –August 1-2

Register by 9 PM July 26 at RCRacing Events.com
August and September will be busy months and some confusion on
the Calendar if you don’t pay attention. So heads up! We start the
month with The 3rd Annual San Diego Cup. The feature event will
be the Classic Thunderboats on Saturday around 5 pm. Then Race
Week stars off on Monday with the VO-70’s. The IOM Class finishes

on Friday the 14 . If anyone still has energy, Saturday the 15 is an
open practice day for the Sailing Division.
September starts off normal with the Sailing Division Points Race,
and then the UK/US Challenge Freesail. So get those wind vanes out
and oiled and grab a partner since these beautiful boats demand
two person crews. Make sure you contact Ernie Mortensen if you
are interested in the International Event
The month ends with the Pacific Islanders Weekend, which is
something to see but the parking is usually a nightmare.
