Local Favorite Band
Wednesday, August 12 • 7-8:30PM
Seven Bridges Park (Greene Road & Green Trails Drive)
Local Favorite is the closest thing to a Nashville concert band
that you’ll find this side of the Mason-Dixon Line. With a
seamless crossover from classic rock to modern country hits to
blues, reggae and soul, you’ll know every song and be up on
your feet from the first song to the last. Local Favorite is a vocal
band first and foremost, with five vocalists trading male and
female leads and singing harmonies. And its members are
multi-instrumentalists. In addition to the usual guitar, bass and
drums you’ll hear banjo, mandolin, upright bass, an assortment
of keyboards and harmonica, playing songs from artists like:
Allman Brothers, Jimmy Buffett, Bon Jovi, Garth Brooks,
Johnny Cash, CCR, Eagles, Bonnie Raitt, Everly Brothers, Joss
Stone, Georgia Satellites, Norah Jones, Lynard Skynard, Little
Big Town, Little Feat, Los Lonely Boys, KT Tunstall, John
Mellencamp, Sugarland, Fleetwood Mac, Keith Urban and
Wreckers. The harmonies are tight, the sound is rich and the
energy never stops. You’ll leave the concert wanting more.

Abrakadoodle Green Kids in a Colorful World
Abrakadoodle Doodlers
Green kids care about the environment and we do too! Each week our
Green Kids take inspiration from cultures around the world or learn
about famous artists such as Tiffany, Renoir and Gustav Klimt. With
that inspiration, and recycled materials, our artists create their very
own unique masterpiece that both decorates our world and helps keep
our environment clean! We use many, many colors but our emphasis
is on GREEN! Artists will need to bring some basic recycled materials
to class (e.g. newspaper, paper tube, old CD, water bottle …) and we’ll
provide a list at the start of the session. Be the first to try this brand
new program!

environment – who could ask for anything more? We are sure you
and your artist will have a blast! See individual program listings for

All dance classes will perform in the Spring Recital that will be presented on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the Lisle High School Auditorium at 2 pm.

the Fitness Punch Card and the Tyke Town Childcare babysitting service. We hope these changes
in our programming give you the flexibility you need to help you more actively participate in
fitness programs at the Woodridge Park District
New! Fitness Punch Card – Fall 2009
Participate in a variety of group exercise classes by purchasing a punch
card. The punch card allows you the flexibility to attend the classes that
best suit your schedule. Check our punch card schedule and choose a
class that meets your scheduling and fitness needs. The instructor will
punch your card so you will always know how many workouts you have
left. When you’ve used all the classes on your card please turn it in to
purchase another one.
New! Tyke Town Childcare
The Fitness Punch Card is available in 10, 20 or 30 visit denominations
and can only be purchased by registering in person at the Community
Center. Mail-in/Fax-in registrations are not accepted. Fitness Punch

11 – December 19
The first time you use this service:
• Provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate for children 12 months and younger.
*Punch cards are nontransferable and nonrefundable.

visits and can only be purchased in person at the Community Center.
• Fill out a Participant Information Sheet available at
www.woodridgeparks.org that will be kept on file with staff.
Important Information:
• For safety reasons, a parent or guardian must sign their child in and out and show photo identification.

Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Style of combining the hands and feet in a
method of unarmed self-defense. Instruction is centered around
physical conditioning, a series of patterned movements that develop
grace and coordination, and controlled sparring and self-defense
practice. Black Belt instructors teach proper technique in these areas,
monitor all students practice, and provide a structured teaching
environment for students of all ages. Tae Kwon Do can bring out a
heightened sense of confidence, physical awareness, and well-being in
each and every student. All students begin at the rank of white belt.
To advance to a higher belt or rank, the student must demonstrate his
or her abilities at periodic promotional examination held at Kim’s
Black Belt Academy. Note: Uniforms are available through the
instructor.

team.
I have been coaching for the Park
District Basketball program since my
oldest son was in third grade (Fall
2003). Also, for the third
consecutive year, I was lucky enough
to coach my younger son’s team
concurrently with my older son’s
Why did you decide to volunteer coach?
My older son Kevin expressed an interest in playing basketball in
the Park District program and I thought I might be able to impart
some of the basic basketball knowledge I have from having played
high school basketball. I also am a huge fan of the Woodridge
Park District.
What do you like about coaching youth players?
One of the main things I have enjoyed about coaching youth aged
3rd to 8th grade has been the “coachability” of the kids in this age
group. Along with that is also the fact that each year presents its
own unique challenge in working with all of my players to help
him/her improve individually and just as importantly learn to
work with and respect their teammates.
What has been your favorite /best experience?
My favorite experience was paying off the “bet”. The “bet” is if
every member of the team scores at least one point during a game
then I will take them out for a pizza party. The bet was won once
three years ago and making the “bet” each year has served to
enforce the “team first” mentality that I and most parents desire
for our players.
What is the most challenging aspect of being a volunteer coach?
The most challenging aspect of being a volunteer coach would be
the fine balance of knowing that many of the participants entering
the program do so with the expectation of winning games and I
need to balance their expectations with my personal goals of
developing all of the players and team during the 4 month season.
I begin each year with a team meeting and I tell the parents and
players that if we lose every game by a single point that we will
consider it a successful season since we were competitive while
focusing on each player’s development and firmly instilling the
concept of “team before me”.

can be completed in the spring before May 15 or in the fall before
October 15. For more information, contact Ryan Bordewick, Planner
and Landscape Designer, at (630) 353-3300.
Please help us watch the parks!
Garden Plots
If you see any suspicious activities in progress at a park site, please alert the
Police Department immediately at 911. If vandalism has already occurred,
please call the Police Department at (630) 719-4740 and notify the
Woodridge Park District at (630) 353-3300.
Garden plots are provided for those who wish to have a garden
but do not have the space. These garden sites are located on the
tract of land east of Woodridge Drive and south of 71st Street.
All plants, stakes, fences and supports must be removed from
the plot area by October 19, 2009.
The Park District is now sponsoring a program specifically targeting arson
prevention through the new Arson Tipster Award Program. The Arson
Tipster Program rewards residents for providing information that leads to
the arrest of the arson perpetrator or conspirator. All communication
between the Woodridge Park District and the Arson Tipster is kept strictly
confidential. The Woodridge Park District will not release or disclose any
information furnished by the Arson Tipster without the Tipster’s explicit
consent and approval. Arson Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
To provide a tip or get more information about the Arson Tipster Program,
contact the Woodridge Park District at (630) 353-3300.
Thank you for helping keep our parks safe and clean.
Waterfowl Concerns
Regular feeding of waterfowl can cause dependency on people
for food, bird and people conflicts, and the spread of disease.
Please refrain from feeding the birds at Lake Carleton and Lake
Harriet along with other lakes in the area. The waterfowl have
become used to handouts and no longer migrate south in the
winter. The once wild birds have become tame and have lost
their fear of cars and people, which can lead to traffic problems
and possible injury. With the growing populations of waterfowl
in small concentrated areas, the competition for food is high.
The less nutritious handouts and harsh weather increase their
susceptibility to life threatening diseases. We ask that you
please do not feed the waterfowl. Thank you for your support.
For more information, please contact the Woodridge Park
District at (630) 353-3300.

Behavior Policy
Satisfaction Guaranteed
and Refund Procedure
The Woodridge Park District offers a “Satisfaction
Guaranteed” Policy for all of our recreation programs!
(Trips, Pool Passes and One-Day Events excluded).
We are committed to giving the residents of Woodridge
quality programs at reasonable prices, and we are prepared
to stand behind the programs we offer. If you are not
completely satisfied with the program after attending two
classes, stop by the Community Center before the third
meeting to fill out an “unsatisfied” refund form. We will
invite you to repeat a class at no charge, receive a credit
toward another program in the session, or receive a full
refund (minus $5 administrative charge).
No refund will be granted after the third meeting of the
program or after 50% of the classes have been held
(whichever is earlier) with the exception of a written
medical excuse prior to completion of the program.
A $5 administrative charge will be deducted from the
amount of refund for each program, including refunds
for medical reasons. Medical excuses will result in a prorated refund based upon the number of classes held prior
to the date listed on the physician’s excuse. No refunds
will be given for a trip unless there is a replacement or the
trip is cancelled. The Park District does reserve the right
to cancel a program if the enrollment is not sufficient to
justify sponsorship of the activity. Participants will receive
a phone call and the option of a refund or leaving the
balance on their account.
We ask for your feedback to help us serve our residents
to the best of our ability and to achieve our goal to make
this the most cooperative, public accessible park district
in the state.
Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times.
The following guidelines have been developed to help make Park
District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional
rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as
deemed necessary by staff.
Participants shall:
1.Show respect to all participants and staff, take direction from staff.
2.Refrain from using abusive or foul language.
3.Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.
4.Show respect to equipment, supplies and facilities.
A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will
periodically review rules with participants during the program session.
If inappropriate behavior occurs, prompt resolution will be sought
specific to each individual situation. The Park District reserves the
right to dismiss a participant whose behavior endangers the safety of
himself/herself or others.
Special Note To Parents
The Woodridge Park District provides a safe and stimulating
environment for your child’s growth, please help us maintain our
high-quality programs.

dropped from the program.
Parent & Child Classes: Siblings of the enrolled children may not
