YAKIMA — Welcome to the 2014 Central Washington
Bridal Show, the best place to start planning your
wedding. Here, you can taste samples from caterers
and cake decorators, sit inside a limo and meet a
variety of wedding professionals face to face. The
show is a great opportunity to ask questions and
gather information, compare prices and services,
register for prizes and see the latest fashions.
“This is the only place in Yakima or Ellensburg
where you are able to plan your entire wedding
under one roof,” says bridal show association
president Darin Clark.
The Central Washington Bridal Show is committed
to providing the most spectacular bridal event in
the region, with all the information you need to
plan your perfect wedding. Whether your wedding
will take place in Yakima, Tri-Cities, Ellensburg
or the Cle Elum area, you’ll be able to interview
multiple wedding photographers, bridal shops,
florists, caterers, wedding and reception sites, DJs,
bakeries, party rental companies, and more — all
in one fun and glorious day.
The bridal show also features two New York style
fashion shows, at 3 p.m. and again at 4 p.m., the
most electric and technologically advanced fashion
show produced in Central Washington. Staged in
the south ballroom, each show will seat 500 guests.
The fashion shows feature gowns and formalwear,
hair, makeup, flowers and jewelry on a lighted
runway.
Organizers of this 31st annual event are proud
of the Central Washington Bridal Show’s strong
tradition of offering the area’s largest collection
of quality wedding professionals. The show
requires its exhibitors to be licensed and local — no
hobbyists allowed.

The show dates to 1982 when eight exhibitors
held the area’s first bridal show at a local hotel.
Disc jockey Joe Hiner of Sound Shows recalls
hand building lighting structures for that first
fashion show because nobody in Yakima had the
appropriate equipment. “So many people showed
up, we had to put on two fashion shows,” he says.
Over the years, the show has continued to build
and adapt. Held for a number of years at the
Yakima SunDome, the bridal show moved back to
the Yakima Convention Center in 2012. Organizers
received rave reviews about the remodeled show’s
improved atmosphere and new runway show.
The show’s bridal guide, Bliss, is loaded with ideas
and resources designed especially for couples
planning a Central Washington wedding. Readers
will find a list of vendors featured at the show
in the back of this publication. Happy planning,

comes from a family of 11 — in the
wedding party. “He has 12 nieces
and nephews and every single one
of them was in the wedding,” says
Kayla, herself an only child.
The couple had a two-year
engagement while Kayla finished
her bachelor’s degree. The lengthy
engagement gave the bride time
to plan the day’s details, which
included making many of the rusticlook decorations herself — including
a faux cake. The five-tiered frosted
showpiece was actually made of hat
boxes with a keeper layer on the top. ￭

RAIN SHOWERS couldn’t ruin Josh
Spellman and Tiffany Headley’s
wedding day. “The weather was so
crummy our whole day that we were
not able to put up any decorations,
and most of our guests left right after
our ceremony,” Tiffany recalls. “But
none of that mattered because I got
to marry my best friend, the love of
my life, which is the only important
detail of that day!” Plus, dancing in
the rain made for some memorable
moments. Josh, a firefighter, and
Tiffany, a registered nurse, met on
a blind date arranged by friends. “I
talked for about three-and-a-half
hours straight, with Josh saying about
20 words the whole date,” Tiffany
says. “But we both knew that day that
we had met our soul mate.” Already
set up with household furnishings,
the couple asked guests to donate to
their honeymoon trip to Cabo San
Lucas. “We were able to go on some
incredible adventures,” Tiffany says.
“It was the perfect way to enjoy the
first week of being husband and
wife.”

OBTAINING A MARRIAGE LICENSE is likely
one of the simplest tasks you’ll cross off your
wedding to-do list.
In Washington, there’s a three-day waiting
period after your application is filed with the
county auditor’s office until your marriage
license is valid, so you’ll need to apply at
least three days prior to exchanging vows. A
marriage license is valid for
60 days anywhere in the state.
Expect to pay a non-refundable fee ($64
in Yakima County, cash only; the fee is $35
in Kittitas County, payable by cash, check or
money order). A keepsake certificate or certified
copies (needed for a name change) carry an
additional fee.
Blood tests are not required. Both parties
must be at least 18 years old (17 under some
circumstances) and visit the courthouse together
to submit the application.
You’ll need to bring photo ID and your Social
Security numbers, if applicable, as well as the
names of your parents and their birth state or
country.
No witnesses are needed to obtain a marriage
license, but state law requires at least two
witnesses be present at the ceremony. Only
a judge or licensed or ordained minister can
perform the ceremony.

HONORING FAMILY was the theme of John and Danea King’s May 2013
wedding at Spring Creek Homestead. The couple met online at Match.com and
knew right away this match was perfect. “He was different than everybody else
I’d met,” Danea says. John proposed on the beach at Lincoln City, Ore., on the
couple’s one-year anniversary. As they began planning their big day, friends
and family pitched in to help with many of the details, including catering
and decorating. “Everybody around us was just so happy for us when we met
and found each other,” recalls Danea. A second marriage for both, John and
Danea felt blessed to have all of their five children participate in their wedding
ceremony. “The best part was having our kids there with us and having those
guys be our wedding party,” Danea says. “It was a little different and exciting
that they were all able to share that day with us and be a part of it.” Including
the kids, ages 14 to 22, influenced some of the day’s decisions. “It was hard to
choose a color (for the bridesmaid dresses) that all the girls would agree on,
so I said, ‘Forget it, we’ll just go with black.’” The bride’s youngest daughter,
Madison, helped pick the wedding dress. “That was really cool,” Danea says.
She wore red shoes in memory of her late mother whose favorite color was red. ￭
