From the Desk of
BROTHER DAVID
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Well, it is hard to believe but it is
February and we have one month
over in the second semester. It really
is hard to believe that the year is
going by so fast. January was not
only a busy month but a most
productive month here at school. I
am very pleased with the first
semester report cards: our students
did rather well and, more importantly,
so many students improved on their
first quarter grades. However, this is
not the time to slack off because,
traditionally, the third quarter is the
most difficult quarter, so that means
we all need to keep our students
focused on their first priority SCHOOL.
I am very happy to announce that
we had 150 students take our
placement exam. That will provide
us with a healthy class and keep our
enrollment growth steady. January
was a month that just seemed to run
away with itself; so many wonderful
activities occurred. Exciting games,
assemblies,
liturgies,
musical
auditions, dance competitions, grade
school basketball tournaments, and
the start of new classes allowed all of
us to start FRESH and NEW. Our
Winter Extravaganza was most
successful and - ready or not - we
have
begun
Underclassmen
Registration for the 2016-17 school
year.
I am so grateful for our
parents, students, faculty, and staff
that give so freely of their time, talent,
and treasure to make all of these
events a reality.
Since it is LEAP YEAR, we will be
leaping over so much as we begin
February. Catholic Schools Week,
Counselors Week, and Homecoming
will make this month just fly by. I do
not think there is a free day here at
school.
Mardi Gras, Lent, Trivia
Night, and our annual 5k/10k in honor
of Jean Hermsdorfer are just some of
the highlights of the month ahead.
I am very happy to announce that
our annual Franciscan Mission
Service Week will be held here at
Notre Dame. Our sister schools,
Saint Anthony's High School (Long
Island, NY) and Saint Francis Prep
(Fresh Meadows, NY) will be here
joining our students and faculty in a
full week of service to many agencies
here in Southeast Missouri. I love
this week because we get the
opportunity to welcome these visitors
who are always so good to us. It is
now our turn to show them the great
hospitality that characterizes the
Midwest.
Last but not least, I am always so
proud of the way SPIRITUALITY
remains the hallmark of our school.
Our retreats, liturgies, and acts of
service make Notre Dame a most
sacred place. Just recently we had
to cancel our participation in the
March For Life trip to Washington,
DC due to weather. THAT DID NOT
STOP NOTRE DAME. On Friday,
January 22, our students prayed and
WALKED THE TRACK every hour of
the school day praying for our nation
and the sanctity of life. It is these
moments that continue to inspire me
and reflect on the goodness that
surrounds all of us each day here at
school.
So get ready for another busy
month, a month that will continue the
mission of Notre Dame. I hope to
see you at one, two, three, or every
event this month. Know that you are
in our prayers. Be certain of my
gratitude for all you do for Notre
Dame.

Brother David Anthony Migliorino, OSF

With Love…
Because of the great number of
deliveries for Valentine’s
Day, deliveries are placed
on tables in the hallway
outside the office.
Students can
check between classes and during
their lunch periods to see if they have
received anything. The items will be
in an unsecured area, so be aware
that the bouquet or other article you
send may be examined by persons
other than the intended recipient.
This year, the day’s schedule for
Friday, Feb. 12 requires that

CREWS
Applications for positions on the
various technical crews are being
processed. The crew lists will be
posted on the theatre bulletin board
and Edline the first week of February.
More crew members are needed for
set construction and stage crew if we
are to produce the needed scenery.
See Miss King if you missed sign-up
and would like to help.
Work
schedules will be posted on Edline as
well.
We want to give our Press Club
volunteers a huge THANK YOU for
their unfailing efforts and hard work
throughout the school year. These
wonderful ladies come whenever
they are needed to process mailings
and for other special projects. They
tackle every job with amazing
efficiency.
Thank you for your
generous service!
PATRON AND AD DRIVE
The Ad and Patron Drive for the
musical began January 22 and will
run through February 5. Students
have the opportunity to win a day off
on Friday, April 8, if they reach the
sales quota. Why not show your
support of the cast and crew with a
personal ad in the program for your
someone special? Ask your son or
daughter for details.
On days after a winter
weather event, we urge
all parents to use good
judgment
in
letting
students drive to school. Car pools
or rides with parents are suggested.
Driving conditions on Notre Dame
Drive and our parking lot may not be
the same as those on main
thoroughfares that are cleared and
salted by the city. Together, let us
provide for safety. Students should
wear sensible shoes to avoid a spill
on our parking lot.
In the event of snow or ice,
announcement for the cancellation or
delayed starting time of school will be
made on KFVS-TV (Cape Girardeau,
MO), WPSD-TV (Paducah, KY), and

Advanced Placement
Tests
Students who excel in certain
subjects may want to try to gain
college credit through the AP
program. Exams may be taken in
almost every area of study and are not
limited to seniors.
The exams are given in May and cost
$92 per exam. Scores are given on a
scale of 1-5, with college credit usually
granted for scores of 3, 4, or 5,
depending on the university and the
subject.
Talk to your teachers, counselors, or
go to www.collegeboard.com for more
information. AP exams are very
challenging, so students should take
the highest level ND course and study
in order to prepare. You must order
your tests from Mrs. Mueth by March
15th!

Project Prom
Parents of juniors and seniors are
invited to attend a Project Prom
meeting on Wed., Feb. 3, 6 p.m. in
the school library. This meeting will
give you an overview of how Project
Prom works, and how it benefits your
student and our school as a
whole. Even if you are not able to
volunteer, please come to the
meeting to learn about the great
things offered at Project Prom.
Of
course,
we
do
need
help! Project Prom is divided into
committees, each with a specific role
to
make
the
evening
(and
morning!) run smoothly and to not put
the entire burden on just a few
people. So volunteering does not
have to be an overwhelming
experience.
If you are unable to attend the
meeting and would like additional
information or would like to sign up
for a committee, please contact

Holy Cow!
Judges from the St. Louis Dairy
Council saw something special in a
photo of
the Lady Bulldogs
Basketball team drinking their usual
recovery drink - chocolate milk. Their
photo and a grant application
submitted by Coach Renee Peters
earned the team $300 in milk money
and the title of Power Up School of
the Year.
A representative from the Dairy
Council presented the team and
school with a banner and gifts on
Jan. 26. Thanks to junior Natalie
James and Kirchdoerfer Farms,
Cocoa the dairy cow was utterly
happy to be part of the presentation
event.
Happy St.
Valentine’s
Day!
