A Note From Principal Vidulich
Colorado Gives Day is Tuesday, December 8!

Here at the House of PRIDE, we are pounding the hardwood with our First Annual Round Ball Ruckus,
our charity basketball assemblies. Students have created and signed up their own teams to take on a celebrity crew of LMS staff and Louisville's finest. Louisville PD Officers Haymore and Thompson may be joined by
BVSD's security chief Rick Kelogg to raise a ruckus to benefit Louisville's families in need.

Many of you already give to our community's worthy causes. Please consider adding LMS to
your Colorado Gives Day philanthropy. Every dollar you give goes straight to helping LMS provide the best
education available to our kids and community. A tax deduction form is printable right from RevTrak! Follow this link to make
your donation. (See our financial report and why your gift is so important in next week's bulletin. If you have already contributed
the suggested $150.00, but have not received a tax form, I apologize. Just notify [email protected])
Next year...WHAT!?
 Yes, it's crazy, but we live in two years simultaneously here in this wild Pirate office. We are already looking at courses and
programming for next YEAR as well as next semester. Please take 10 minutes to answer our in-house Parent/Guardian survey
coming in this next month. Our plan is to spend Monday, January 4th reviewing the results so they can inform our practice.

Know a current 5th grader? Have a current 5th grader? We kick off our "Becoming a Pirate" process with a fun (seriously!)
and informative OPEN ENROLLMENT & NEIGHBORHOOD EVENING this coming Wednesday, December 9 from 6:00-8:00.
Electives will showcase their programs and core academic teachers will be there to answer parent questions after the counselors, Mr. Munoz and I present the fundamentals of a Pirate's Life in the auditorium. Squash those rumors that LMS does not
have room.
Con nued next page Principal Vidulich’s note con nued... Safety...
 An incredible thank you to our entire school community for taking our Wednesday, December 2, LOCKDOWN
DRILL so seriously. Every time we do any kind of a drill, we spend time processing our response and determining the best ways to keep all of us safe and prepared, without being freaked out. One of the things we
discovered is that many of our kids do need to learn to shower :-)
Upcoming vacation and the end of the semester…

Help your students do their backward planning so that they walk out of the building on the 18th loaded down
with all the stuff from their lockers, yet no work to do. We want everyone to have a full, rich, relaxing break.
See you at the choir concert, Round Ball Ruckus, OE night or basketball games next week! Whew!
Aaaargh!

PE Dance Showcase: A er an internship with the Boulder Ballet, where the stu‐
dents learned a choreographed dance, as well as created their own "sport choreography". We were treated to a Dance Extravaganza! Before School Bad Weather Plan Is it an indoor day or an outdoor day? Ok, so I might have exaggerated a bit in yesterday's announcement about keeping the kids outside in the freezing cold— 20 degrees might be a bit too chilly to stand outside at the back of the school un l the bell rings at 8:30. Please send your students to school with a coat and hat. We are not set up to have supervision in the hall‐
ways in the mornings. As winter is se ling in (I hope) here in Colorado it will be chilly. Every day is an as‐
sumed outside day unless the weather prevents students from safely wai ng outside. We will post signs on the doors indica ng whether we will be inside or outside it there is any ques on. The LMS administra on will determine the need for Inside mornings. Thanks and *** Think Snow*** Susan Downey Winter Choir Concert Thursday, December 10th 6:30pm The 6th Grade Choir sings at 6:30pm (about 40 minutes long). The 7/8 Grade Choir sings at7:30pm (about 45
minutes long).
What's interesting about our choir concerts, what makes them entertaining, is that your students run the show,
either through arranging, improving, singing, playing, dancing, or acting...and they're quite proud of their preparation.
The Hour of Code on Friday, December 11 from 3:30-4:45
Dear Families,
LMS would like to invite your student to participate in The Hour of Code on Friday, December 11 from 3:30-4:45 as
part of Computer Science Education Week! This event allows students an introductory opportunity to learn computer science
coding skills. Last year, 15 million students tried computer science in one week. This year, we're joining students worldwide to
reach 100 million students.
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their
ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But today, only a tiny fraction of students learn
to code and fewer are studying it now than a decade ago.
The Hour of Code is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your
students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge, and hope that your student can attend.

Strategic Plan
Dear parent or guardian,
Boulder Valley School District expects
and fosters a high level of achievement
from all students and we are working to
continuously increase students’ opportunities for success. That’s why we’ve
spent the last three years engaging our
staff and community members in crafting
new district goals and a strategic plan
designed to raise the bar even higher.
Our goal is to create challenging, meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for all students, help every child
reach their learning potential regardless
of socioeconomic status, and honor each
child’s individual learning style to promote
success.
We call our new strategic plan The Success Effect, a comprehensive effort to
address our goals of excellence and equity from three distinct angles: Talent,
Learning, and Partnerships. As you’ll see
from the attached flier, each lens will help
us ensure that your child gets the most
out of every school day, so every student
is prepared for a successful future after
graduation.
For more information, please visit the
website bvsdsuccesseffect.org.
Thank you for partnering with us to help
all Boulder Valley students succeed in
school.
Sincerely,
Bruce Messinger, Ph.D., Superintendent
& the Success Effect Executive Committee El efecto del éxito –
Plan estratégico del BVSD
Estimado padre o tutor,
