The 6th Global Forum on Health Promotion is an
opportunity to:
1. assess the progress that has been made in health promotion
since the declaration of the Ottawa Charter in 1986;
2. highlight International and Canadian health promotion
initiatives;

3. discuss the life course approach to health and sustainable

development, and ways to implement the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); and
4. be a part of the development of the PEI Declaration and
provide input on the future of health promotion.

Review
A research paper will be commissioned in advance of the Forum,
documenting health promotion milestones and accomplishments
over the past 30 years. This paper will be presented at the Forum.
Program
The program will be a mix of plenary sessions and workshops led
by national and international keynote speakers and presenters.
Thematic workshops will cover perspectives in health
promotion, including: Public Health, Municipal leadership, and
Non-Government Organizations and civil society.
The World Health Organization hosted the First International
Conference on Health Promotion in Ottawa in November 1986.
Health Promotion adopted the Ottawa Charter, which identifies
five key areas of initiative:
