THE YEAR IN PICTURES
SEPTEMBER
A MESSAGE FROM THE ADVANCEMENT BOARD PRESIDENT
Golf – The success of this year’s Golf Outing
pushed the total net proceeds for the 25 years
of the event past the $1 million mark.
Dear School Parents, Alums, Grandparents, Friends,
and fellow SSPP Parishioners,
Fun Fair – Next to their birthday and
Christmas, Fun Fair is the most important date
on each student’s calendar.

MARCH
The history of Saints Peter and Paul School is being written right now, and the story it tells is up
to us! Our school thrives because YOU have stepped up and answered the two age-old questions:
“If not us, then who? If not now, then when?”
Football – Both our Jr. Varsity
and Varsity were undefeated
on their way to capturing the
regular season and post-season
conference championships.
Grandparents’ Day – Grandparents’ Day
gives our special guests an opportunity
to see how challenging our curriculum is
and how much their grandchildren enjoy
their school.
MAY
Ryan Kubacki, SSPP
parishioner, School Parent,
and current President of the
Advancement Board
We are blessed to be part of a great parish and are grateful to our pastor, Father Milota,
who prioritizes support for the school. We are blessed to have had Frank Glowaty as Principal and now as
Advancement Director, and we are excited to welcome Karen Meskill as Principal, who is aiming to take us
to even higher heights, with her work on the curriculum already making a difference.
Paul Pavlishin Memorial Scholarship–
Patra Pavlishin donated the proceeds
from the annual Paul Pavlishin Memorial
Golf Outing to establish a scholarship in
her husband’s name. It is our nineteenth
scholarship to offer tuition assistance.
Our community has been built by all of us and must be sustained by all of us. Great examples are the
considerable efforts made by our school parent and alum-staffed boards, including the School Board,
Home & School, Athletic Association, and the Advancement Board. The Advancement Board’s aim is to steward
the process by which we invite all of our constituents who believe in Catholic education to make tax-deductible
gifts to Saints Peter and Paul School. The purpose of these funds is to both supplement each year’s operational
budget while also safeguarding the long-term financial viability of the school.
Confirmation – Bishop Siegel was on
campus to confirm all of the eighth
graders of our parish.
School play – This year’s production of Willy Wonka
wowed the North Central College audiences.
APRIL
Thank you for your support last year, which reversed a seven-year decline in our school’s
Annual Fund giving, posting a 52% increase and exceeding our ambitious goals! We now ask
you for your continued support because we have even more ambitious goals amid the stakes
getting higher and the tide against us stronger. “In fact,” asserts Fr. Robert Barron, Director
of Mundelein Seminary, “many studies have confirmed that the second largest religious
denomination in America is ex-Catholics.” Catholic schools are closing and those that are staying
open are having to increase tuition to levels that force them to confront core Catholic values.
At the same time, a Catholic education has never been more important, as the Catholic lens
(Faith, Hope, and Love) guides our students’ application of knowledge (Math, Science, Reading)
toward a heightened sense of community, leadership, citizenship, and service to others. These are
the same principles that founded our country and that will sustain its future.
Principal of the Year – Mr. Glowaty was honored
by the Diocese of Joliet as its Principal of the Year.
8th Graders – Our 8th graders
greeted an Honor Flight on their
Washington, D.C., trip before
returning home to become our
157th graduating class.
As you can see from the details in this Annual Report, we’ve been successful in raising money and establishing
three endowments. OK, so we have all this money, what difference does it make, and why do we need more?
Well, it makes the school possible. Our school’s current operational budget receives over $450,000 from
endowment earnings and other Advancement activities. This combines with the parish subsidy to create the
environment of excellence that our kids experience. Furthermore, this amounts to approximately a $3,000
tuition savings for each school family, enabling us to keep our tuition $1,000 per year lower than other
Catholic schools in our area.
So what can you do? First, support our parish, as we are parishioners first, and the parish and school health are
one in the same. Next, if you don’t already, send your child to the parish school and get involved as a volunteer,
even consider joining one of the parent and alum-staffed boards. Then, as you are able, do your best to support
the Annual Fund and the school Auction, Golf Outing, and the newly created Rummage Sale, which debuts in
June 2015. The proceeds from these events go toward making our school thrive.
Saints Peter and Paul is a special place, for you, and because of you. Our prayer for our students is that we
successfully springboard them into achieving in high school and college and into making a difference in the
communities they help create, always guided by their faith. Our prayer for parents, alums, and friends is that we
are always here as a comforting rock of stability to continue to inspire them to answer God’s call. The parish has
built a school culture in which we help teach our children what it means to be part of a community by allowing
our kids to see their parents help create and sustain a community in front of their eyes.
This is what you are supporting! If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
Sincerely,
JUNE
Farewell – After thirty-nine years as principal, Mr. Glowaty retired
and was recognized with a papal blessing from Pope Francis.

FROM THE ADVANCEMENT DIRECTOR
2014 FINANCIAL REPORT
Dear Friends of Saints Peter and Paul School,
Shortly upon announcing my decision last January to retire as principal of Saints
Peter and Paul School, I was asked repeatedly about what I would miss most about
not being at school on a daily basis after thirty-nine years on the job.
As for the parents, the majority of my colleagues were in constant disbelief when I
would rave about how effective our four leadership boards (School Board, Home and
School, Advancement Board, and Athletic Association) are at Saints Peter and Paul
School. Many of them struggle to even get people to serve in such a capacity; others
must work through adversarial relationships with their parent groups; and few have
the talent and skill set among their parent population that we enjoy.
I couldn’t help but swell with satisfaction in tracking our students’ successes
and achievements through high school, college, and into the work force. As great
a feeling as that was, nothing could ever top the thrill when I saw a former student
return as a SSPP parent. There is no greater compliment any educator could
ever receive.
Our tag line is Be A Part of Our Family. When students, parents, and teachers are all
pulling together, as well as for each other, as they do at Saints Peter and Paul School,
those words jump off the paper.
Sincerely,

Add to this list the people who chair fun and fund-raising activities, coach our

exists between our parents and teachers has helped us create an environment where
true progress can be an annual benchmark and which enables our faculty and staff
to be provided with the resources needed to help our school thrive.
Then, of course, there are the students. They are not only the lifeline of the school
but are also what gives each day purpose, meaning, inspiration, and great joy.
Being around the students, whether in the classrooms, halls, lunchroom,
playground, church, or athletic fields, always left me filled with energy,
excitement, enthusiasm, and pride.

The response which immediately came to mind, and which I am experiencing
now that classes have resumed, is threefold. I miss being around the children, the
interaction with teachers, and working in tandem with the parents.
As for our faculty, a school is only as strong as its professional educators and
support staff. Passing on their faith, delivering instruction, communicating with
parents, serving as role models, affirming students, and working behind the
scenes in terms of grading papers, updating web pages, attending meetings,
designing curriculum, and doing whatever is necessary to make our school strong
are hallmarks of those to whom you have entrusted your children. We challenge
each other and even disagree occasionally, but never lose sight of our mission…
namely, to continue our rich tradition of providing quality Catholic education to
the children of our parish.

KAREN MESKILL
School Principal
“I am excited to be a part of the Saints Peter and Paul Community.”
The new leader of our school is Mrs. Karen Meskill, who comes to Saints
Peter and Paul School after serving as a principal in the Archdiocese
of St. Paul and Minneapolis for the last seven years. In addition to her
administrative experience, she also taught at the middle school level for
six years and has a background in banking and corporate training.
“I am excited to be a part of the Saints Peter and Paul Community,”
said the New York native. “I am looking forward to working with the
excellent faculty and staff, getting to know our students, and actively
partnering with parents to continue to build upon the strong
educational offerings and spiritual formation established here
at Saints Peter and Paul.”
When asked what inspires her about working in a Catholic school, she
responded, “I love working in a Catholic school where children pray
daily with their teachers and attend weekly Mass. Each day we have the
privilege to develop and strengthen the moral compass of each of our
students that is used to guide them in their decision-making process
now, and in their future endeavors, beyond Saints Peter and Paul.”
Mrs. Meskill greatly appreciated the warm welcome that was extended
to her by the Saints Peter and Paul Community. She is looking forward
to being a part of the community and contributing to the strong tradition
of excellence in education. Knowing that leading a school into the future
comes with its challenges, she is ready to embark upon them
with excitement and enthusiasm.
