June has been an interesting month, with rain, rain and more rain. I was
reminded of the month of June I spent in India in the 1960s. It was the monsoon
season. It either rained each day or rain was predicted for the day. As golfers it
keeps us humble. How fast or how slow will the greens be? We have only Mother
Nature to blame rather than the MCC irrigation system. As predicted from the
weather we have experience less play on our golf course. We do expect July to be
a little drier and play to resume at the normal rate.
As reported in last month’s newsletter, MCC received the official report from
the visit of a representative from the USGA. Members may read and/or print the
report from our website. You will find the report under the golf section.
Many of you may be aware that a longtime employee Mike Berning,
Superintendent of Greens, submitted his resignation on June 6, 2015. His last day
was June 21, 2015. Mike had served Maplecrest Country Club for fourteen years
with his last seven years spent as superintendent of greens. We wish to thank Mike
for his fourteen years of service and wish him well in his new endeavor(s).
MCC’s capable green staff will continue keeping our course in good shape while a
new Superintendent is selected and brought on board.
As always we need everyone’s assistance in repairing ball marks and fixing
divots!
