Lebanon Middle School
Summer Edition
“Panther Pride”
From the Principal’s Desk….
Dear Parents and Students,
The year ended with a very successful eighth grade promotion ceremony on Thursday
June 9th. The next day there was an awards assembly where several students were
recognized for various achievements. It was a very nice way to end the 2015/16 school
year.
This summer Lebanon Middle School will again be participating in the Governor’s
Summer Reading Challenge. Reading is one of the most important life skills that a
student can develop. Not only is it necessary for further education and employment, but
recreational reading enriches people’s lives. Lebanon Middle School believes in
developing a love for reading and is therefore participating in this program as one more
way to encourage reading.
All students who do participate in the Reading Challenge will be recognized by
Lebanon Middle School. Students will also become eligible for special rewards. We
offer these incentives because we believe reading is so important. The Lebanon
Middle School summer reading lists, prepared by our teachers, are published at The
Jonathan Trumbull Public Library in Lebanon and are also available in this newsletter.
All students are expected to read at least two books over the summer.
During the month of August, look for welcome letters from LMS. These letters will
contain information about the upcoming year and also bus route information for your
students.
The LMS staff and I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and
fun filled summer. I look forward to a positive and productive school year next fall.
Hope everyone is having a fun and
safe summer!

Summer Reading Update!
Students who will be entering Grades 5-8 in the fall have been given summer
reading packets. Mrs. Kennedy also spent time book talking some of the
books on the reading lists. Summer reading information and lists can be
found at the school website. (Be sure to read off the list for the grade level
your child will be entering!)
Copies of all books on the reading lists can be found at the Jonathan
Trumbull Public Library. Students are asked to return their summer reading
journals to their Language Arts teacher in the fall. Students who read 15
books or more will be invited to the annual Summer Reading Ice Cream
Social held every year in September.
