Phoebe has watched Habitat ads on TV for years. She remembers seeing Jimmy
Carter talk about it. She always thought it would be great to have a new home that
she helped build, and to see all those smiling faces together helping one another.
She wanted to be a part of that – helping someone else.
Phoebe’s parents were sharecroppers in Mississippi before they came to Milwaukee.
They depended on their nine children to help with reading and corresponding.
Being the youngest in the family, Phoebe also took on the responsibility of caring for
her parents in their declining years. She thanks God that she was there for her mom
and dad.
Phoebe is a medical records clerk for St. Mary’s Hospital at the Northpoint Clinic.
She has worked there since 2000.
Phoebe has been taking care of someone else her whole life. Now it is her turn. She
feels that this is her chance for something good, and that God is telling her to take it
and hold on. Being a part of the Home Builders Blitz and getting a new
house is an answer to her prayers.

and 6-year-old son Antoine
Cleopatra and her children want their own home. From the time she was a teenager
and started working her first job, Cleopatra wanted to be a homeowner. Her
grandparents are currently the only homeowners in her family. With help from her
great-grandfather, they were able to build their dream home, and are still living in it
today.
Cleopatra is a case manger at Curative Care Network and has worked there since
2001. She recently graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in Human
Services. She is very busy with work, home, and now Habitat.
Cleopatra wants to establish a sense of stability within her family. She wants her son
and daughter to understand the importance of homeownership and the benefits of
owning over renting. She has experienced an abundance of financial woes
throughout her life, but has never given up her dream of being a homeowner. Her
partnership with Habitat through the Home Builders Blitz will help her fulfill this
life-long desire.

Carolyn has lived on North 28th Street for the past 12 years. During this time, she
has watched Habitat homes being built all around her. She is comfortable in the
neighborhood and would love to buy her own home there. She has always wanted
to be a homeowner, and has already been going through many of the motions of
being a homeowner by taking care of her landlord’s property, inside and out, like it
was her own.
Carolyn has two grown sons, two small granddaughters that she spends time with,
and an 82-year-old mother for whom she would love to provide a home.
Carolyn works at the Sussex plant for Kraft Pizza Company. She has worked there
since 2002, and is a “D-operator” in the bakery.
Owning a home would be a dream come true for Carolyn. She is hard-working
and very dedicated to anything she does. She loves working on the Habitat
houses, and is perfecting the skills that will make her a successful homeowner.

2555 N. 33rd Street Shenita and sons, 14­year­old Christopher and 10­year­old Javon
Shenita wants to buy a house so that her boys can have a room of their
own. She has already been involved with various first-time homebuyer
education programs, and has been working to improve her credit for the
past four years. When a friend told her about Habitat for Humanity, she
got really excited and immediately knew that this program was for her.
She is an insurance representative for Aurora Medical Group, and has
worked there since May of 2003.
Shenita really wants to be a homeowner, and feels that her family can
contribute to the neighborhood by helping to take care of some of its needs, such as cutting the grass and
shoveling the snow. She wants to show her sons a good example – herself.

Sophia is participating in the Habitat program because she would like to see better neighborhoods

that Habitat is a great way to help people improve their standard of living, by realizing it through
owning their own home. She also appreciates that Habitat helps people who may not be eligible for a
more conventional home loan.
Sophia is a case manager for JPMorgan Chase, and has worked there for the past 5 years. Her stable
job will be a great asset for her as she becomes a first-time homeowner.
Owning a home will also provide Sophia with a stable and secure place in which to raise her daughter.

Keith works in the Registrar’s Office at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital, and has been there

without some of the incidents or harm that can happen by playing in the streets. Keith is a
hard-working father, and has put forth a lot of effort at his sweat equity hours so he could

Quiana is a single parent with two sons and works full-time in insurance verification for Aurora
Health Care, while going to school part-time. She spends a lot of time at Habitat doing her sweat
equity hours, which has been very difficult since she developed a blood clot in her lung after giving
birth to her youngest son.
Quiana’s rent is currently very expensive which is why she became interested in Habitat’s affordable
houses. She is very excited about becoming a homeowner in part of the new and upcoming
community. While she has concerns for her future neighborhood, she feels that the Habitat houses
there will make a positive difference.
Quiana is very grateful for the opportunity she has been given to participate in the Habitat program,
and the Home Builders Blitz in particular. She feels that it will be a blessing to live in a Habitat house,
where she can give her children a yard of their own in which to play and grow.

When Renee` first heard about Habitat for Humanity, she thought it was a wonderful
program but never thought that one day it could help her. Now she is busy working on her
sweat equity hours with the help of her family and friends.
Renee` just got a new job with JPMorgan Chase, and is a student at MATC, where she is
majoring in banking and finance. She currently has a grade-point average of 3.75, and was
very proud when she made the National Dean’s List her first quarter. This achievement
opened her eyes to what she wanted her life to be like.
Renee` is a very reliable person, pays her bills on time, and is very clean and neat. A Habitat
house will mean independence for her and her son. They would have their own place – a
place that they could truly call “home.” Especially with the wonderful support of her family
and friends, she knows that this dream will soon become a reality. Renee` wants to continue
volunteering at Habitat even after her house is done.
