Our services include: primary health care, medication assistance and chronic disease management. As safety net clinics, we provide primary health care, chronic disease management and medication assistance to very low-income uninsured residents of Wyandotte County. CAMP INVENTION Attn: 1st-6th Graders June 6 - 10, 8:30AM-3:00PM Ascension Catholic School Camp Invention, the nation’s premier summer enrichment day camp program, supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and a product of the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), is coming to Ascension Catholic School the week of June 6-10 from 8:30am-3:00pm. Corporal Work of Mercy: Shelter the Homeless Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is sponsoring a dinner auction on June 23 from 5:30pm-9:30 pm, to be held at the Overland Park Convention Center. Ascension has been one of 35 churches in Johnson County who support this network. We help them provide shelter, meals and a full range of social services by volunteering to be a support church to a host church, providing transportation and helping to staff the office. For more information go to our website: kcascension.org/Get Involved/Service Opportunities/Shelter the Homeless/IHN. For students entering grades one through six, Camp Invention is a week-long adventure that will turn the summer from ordinary to extraordinary through hands-on problem solving, using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Camp Invention provides an opportunity for inventive young minds to exercise their creativity and use their imagination in ways they do not normally get to in the classroom. Program participants do not realize they are learning and developing new skills as they build prototypes, take things apart, explore different types of technology and so much more. REMEMBER CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION IN YOUR PLANNED GIVING As we celebrate our 25 years as a parish, Church of the Ascension invites you to leave a lasting legacy to the parish community. Nathan 8 Church of the Ascension The Most Holy Trinity Sunday May 22, 2016 WEEKLY PRAYER Trinity Sunday Getting to Know the Trinity New Parishioners Mr. & Mrs. John Gilroy and Family Mr. & Mrs. Chris Harper and Family Mr. & Mrs. George Laddish Mr. & Mrs. Michael Nolte and Family As difficult as it is to understand the Holy Trinity, I am amazed that Jesus even bothered to tell us about the Father, the Spirit, and himself. As if his own life, his teachings about God's love, his miracles, his death and resurrection were not enough, he told us something about God that we never would have imagined: There are three Persons in one God. It is also something we cannot completely comprehend. So instead of trying to explain it, let's look at what it means for us believers. One thing it shows is that God wants to be known by us. Since theologians and spiritual writers have been helping us do that for almost two thousand years, it may not seem like a big deal. But in ancient times, people expected their gods to be mysterious and hidden. Many cultures thought that you could control a spirit or god if you knew its name. So knowing anything about the inner life of a god would be huge. But our God is the only God, whom no one can control. God sees us not as a threat but as beloved children. Just as a couple falling in love wants to know everything about each other, so God wants to be known by those whom God loves. That leads to my second point. The Trinity also shows us that "God is love" (1 John 4:16) because the three Persons are united in one God. The Persons of the Trinity already love each other perfectly, so God shares that love with us. God calls us to be united in love with God and with each other. Remember that God knows us perfectly and still loves us. How many of us would want another person to know everything about us? Yet knowing our weaknesses and our sins does not hurt God's love for us. On the contrary, our weaknesses allow God to help us by answering our prayers or inspiring someone to come to our assistance. God permits us to sin, knowing that we can experience divine love in forgiveness. We may not be able to grasp the full meaning of the Holy Trinity, but knowing that God shares this with faithful people helps us to love God even more Together for Life Ashley Larkins and Kyle Davis Banns of Matrimony Jamie Reichling and Nicholas Mull Stephanie Zuluaga and Jake Neeman Shannon Walsh and Jacob Adair Melissa Rousseau and Justin Theleman Meghan Baldwin and Adam Burns Anna Zoller and Cameron Scholz Lauren Sykes and Josh Titzman From Death to New Life Richard Pellant, Father of Terry Megan Henn, Wife of Tyler May 23 - May 29 If you have a relative or friend serving in the Armed Forces whom you would like for us to pray for, please add him/ her to the list located in the gathering area.
