Fraze Pavilion Master Plan Executive Summary
March 24, 2016
Master Plan’s Convention: In order to convey the Master Plan’s design solutions
more clearly, we have labeled our deliverables Volume I and Volume II. Volume I
contains the Executive Summary, the Preliminary Cost Estimate, and the Customer
Survey. Volume II contains the Conceptual Drawings which illustrate our proposed
design recommendations for the improvement of Fraze Pavilion.
Project Scope: Much has changed in the concert business since 1991, the year in
which Fraze Pavilion opened to host live music concerts and various other related
activities. It is these industry changes which are currently prompting design
changes and renovations which will upgrade this venue into a more current
industry standard status. That is the primary focus of this Master Plan’s
documentation. Specifically design solution proposals were solicited by Kettering’s
RFP #15-104 for the following deficient entities:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Backstage Operations
Seating Area
Concessions
Storage Areas
Although the above four entities were the primary focus of the solicited Master Plan,
several other deficiencies were noticed throughout our investigative process, except
Item #8. These additional deficiencies have not received any design attention; we
recommend they should be resolved within the next phase of this project.
1. The stage walls lack absorptive material to prevent echoes.
2. Sound and lighting company switches are not located on the
stage per industry standard.
3. The facility’s main electrical service is insufficient since it also
supplies power to street and park lighting.
4. No video system provisions to enhance patron experience and to
help solve the house right and house left obstructed views.
Reserved seating aisles and steps are poorly lit.
5. Mixing booth has no provisions for rain protection.
6. Plazas need more power outlet distribution for portable concession
points-of-service.
7. All proposed renovations will trigger the need to bring those
areas into current code compliance.
8. Inadequate V.I.P. patron amenities
Items 3, 6, and 8 above, have an estimated funding allowance within the Master
Plan’s Preliminary Cost Estimate. Additional funds should be allocated for items 1,
2, 4, 5, and 7. We recommend a minimum of 20% contingency allowance at
minimum to cover these identified deficiencies and those unknowns which arise
with all renovation projects.
Research: In order to adequately address the previously stated Fraze Pavilion
deficiencies, we relied not only on our Team’s experience, but also acquired
firsthand information from the Facility’s patrons and users. Our means for research
were:
1. Patron Input- A Fraze Pavilion Customer Satisfaction
Survey was conducted by our local consultant, Wright State’s
Center for Urban and Public Affairs. A full copy of this survey is
attached.
2. User Input – Sustaita Architects conducted numerous interview
and design sessions with Fraze Pavilion’s
Management, Operations, and Production Staff members.
Also, four site visits were conducted to ascertain Fraze’s existing
conditions.
3. Comparative Analysis – By comparing Fraze to some of our previously
completed venues, we were able to identify shortcomings in offerings
to visiting artists and patrons. Essentially, our analysis of the
existing facilities was directed toward an effort which would result
in an enhanced artist and patron experience. Equally important, we
sought to improve Fraze Pavilion for its’ operators.
Research Results: Insofar as the patron, the Customer Satisfaction Survey
identified several key issues requiring either design solutions or operational
acknowledgement within this project’s Master Planning Phase. The key patron
issues are:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
Venue needs video screen provisions
Reserved seating
Accessible seating improvements for sightline improvements
Terrace seating dissatisfaction
Slow/long concessions lines
High ticket prices render the lawn seating and its’ affordability essential
Availability of healthy menu items
Increase number of shows per season
Whereas, artist facilities and operations shortcomings were identified by Sustaita
Architects includes:
1. Inadequate dressing room provisions
2
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Artist’s catering kitchen limitations
Insufficient tour production offices
Insufficient Fraze management office space
Stage dock limitations
Inadequate stage and general storage space
Proposed Master Plan Solutions: Design solutions for the venue’s deficiencies
were formulated by close communication and interaction with Fraze’s management
staff. We explored other design options but did not include within our final
recommendations due to feasibility. A reserved seating roof cover was ruled out
due to cost, its’ scale within the site, and its’ duration of construction. Also,
increased seating capacity was studied, but ultimately abandoned due to a lack of
sufficient patron parking, cost, and duration of construction. Our conceptual design
recommendations presented in Volume II adequately address the deficiencies
within backstage facilities, seating areas, concessions, and storage areas. These
proposed provisions will enhance the patron, artist, and operations staff experience
at the Fraze Pavilion
Master Plan’s Estimated Cost and Schedule: Based on our design solutions
presented within Volume II of the Master Plan, our firm has calculated an order of
magnitude cost estimate. We employed our archived historical cost data from prior
projects after factoring for inflation. We also utilized our A/E’s industry Mean’s Cost
Data information. A detailed copy of the resultant, preliminary cost estimate is
attached as part of Volume I. Quantification and unit pricing efforts indicate our
proposed Master Plan solution would cost an approximate $5,162,382, which
contains a 20% contingency. This figure will not remain static and does not include
inflation factors for 2017 and beyond.
Conclusion: Fraze Pavilion has been very successful as an amphitheater facility by
comparison to other venues. Given the current competitive environment, the
recommended facility improvements will offer patrons and artists a venue upgraded
to current industry standards. However, an important factor to consider in the
project’s construction scheduling is phasing, given Fraze’s operating season from
June thru August, it is highly unlikely all recommended improvements can be built
between the period of September thru May. Building in multiple phases will
increase construction costs. We may consider shortening Fraze’s operating season
in order to gain more construction time; even if it is ten months. Several of our
previous, larger amphitheater projects were successfully built within a twelve
month period. We highly recommend a single construction period for cost
effectiveness; this planning can be resolved during Fraze’s next project phase.

Fraze Pavilion Master Plan Design Proposals
March 24, 2016
Proposed Master Plan Design Narratives: As an explanation aid, the following
will briefly explain the proposed Master Plan’s Conceptual Designs. Our narrative
follows the sequence of Drawings within Volume II.
Sheet A1 - Existing Site Plan: This plan depicts the Fraze Pavilion current facilities
layout. It is included primarily for use as a comparison with the proposed design on
Sheet A1.1.
Sheet A1.1- Proposed Site Plan: This overall site plan locates the proposed entities
numbered 1 thru 8 on the Keyed Notes Schedule. Essentially, these eight areas
require renovations to address current issues by patrons, artists, and the Facility’s
Operation Staff. These proposed renovations will also update these entities to a
level concurrent with industry standards.
Sheet A2 – Existing Backstage: Existing backstage facilities are indicated on this
plan. Although
the Fraze Staff improvises very well, these facilities fall way
under the
industry standards. This plan and all depicted existing plans are
included as a visual comparison to the proposed, new facilities.
Sheet A2.1 – Proposed Backstage: This proposed floor plan provides adequate
dressing rooms for the performers; it contains:
2- Headliner dressing rooms
4- Band Member dressing rooms
1- Green Room
Business and operational functions of the touring staff will be accommodated by
three production offices.
Artists and Road Crews’ catering needs will be served by a new dining area which
will be distinctly separated from the kitchen area An adequate number of restroom
facilities will be available for the users of the backstage facilities.
Dock area improvements will eliminate a bottleneck condition to improve the
in/load-out tasks. A dock ramp is added to facilitate fork lift and rolling carts access
into dock and stage.
Storage Space for touring bands’ cases and production equipment is insufficient.
This problem will be rectified by the addition of a new storage building adjacent to
the loading dock area.
4
Administrative offices for Fraze’s Management Starr are proposed to alleviate the
current need for additional space. This area will contain:
11111-
Lobby/Reception Area
Manager’s Office
Operation Manager’s Office
Management Staff Office
Private Restroom
The V.I.P. Club will provide members with an exclusive area furnished with a full
service bar, an indoor seating area, a patio area, and private restrooms. Most
upscale venues provide this amenity and use it as a marketing tool for membership.
Sheet A3 - Concessions: Existing concessions building facilities are set up on show
days as an improvised serving counter with twelve points of service. Operationally,
this layout is very inefficient and does not enable expediency in service
to the patron.
Sheet A3.1 - Concessions: The proposed renovation plan re-designs the existing
concessions to enable a logical sequencing of food preparation, staging, and serving.
This will render an efficient workspace which will enable faster service to the
patron with twelve industry standard points-of-service. This improvement will
address the long/slow serving line complaint listed on the Customer Satisfaction
Survey. Also, in order to provide better concessions service, we propose the
construction of a Beverage-Only Kiosk to be located under the new, house-right
grandstand(See Sheet A4.1). This new kiosk will provide an additional eight points
of service, a public relations counter, and a Fraze Pavilion Merchandise Counter.
Sheet A4 - Terraces: This partial site plan shows the existing terrace seating areas.
These terraces are metal bleacher structures which are uncomfortable, noisy, and
not classified as a reserved seat. The lower bleacher seats result in poor sightlines
due to cross aisle pedestrian traffic and lawn patrons standing to view the show.
The Customer Satisfaction Survey also listed this existing feature as the least
desirable seats in the house.
Sheet A4.1 – Grandstands: Our design solution proposes to remove the terrace
seating and replace these structures with Grandstands to resolve the current
issues. Grandstand features will include:
a.
b.
c.
d.
Molded plastic stadium seats with backs
An elevated accessible seating section
An elevated base to avoid obstructed sightlines
Steel and concrete construction to avoid noise from aisle
traffic
5
e. A slight increase in capacity from the current 1000 to 1274
f. The individual stadium seats could be sold as Reserved Seating
thereby fulfilling a key patron request within the Customer
Satisfaction Survey.
In order to fully explain our proposed design, Sheets A6 thru 6.5 contain 3-D images of
the proposed house right and house left grandstands. They will roughly occupy the
current terrace area in juxtaposition with the recently built spotlight tower. Their
placement axis will be directed at center stage. Due to their distance from stage a video
screens system will greatly enhance these seating’s marketability.
Sheet A5 – Sightline Profiles: The two profile sections (1 and 2) illustrate the differences
between the existing grandstand (terrace) and the proposed, new grandstand. The
proposed grandstand’s raised platform provides unobstructed sightlines to the stage for
both wheelchair spaces and lower rows of stadium seats. Currently the terrace’s lower
three rows of seats and wheelchair spaces experience obstructed sightlines. Section 2/A5
also indicates the location of the Beverage-Only kiosk at house right; similarly a new
storage building will be located under the house left grandstand.
Conclusion: We consider all these proposed conceptual design solutions preliminary, but
fairly adequate depiction of the final design solutions which will be resolved to greater
detail in the next phase to improve the Fraze Pavilion. Once implemented to completion,
these recommendations will render Fraze comparable with newer venues and greatly
enhance all users’ experience.

Kettering Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts |Fraze Pavilion Customer Satisfaction Survey
Introduction
In an effort to better understand their clients’ needs and what their customers want, the City of
Kettering Parks, Recreation and Creative Arts Department (KPRCA) commissioned the Center
for Urban and Public Affairs to conduct a survey of the Fraze Pavilion season ticket holders
(super Users) and City of Kettering residents. The survey is one means of tracking data about
customer needs, and provides the opportunity for citizens to share their opinions on the Fraze
Pavilion and services. In 2015, the Center for Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) at Wright State
University (WSU) conducted the public opinion survey for the KPRCA.
This report summarizes the perceptions of season ticket subscribers and frequent patrons
(Super Users) and City of Kettering residents. Survey questions have been grouped into topical
areas, such as “General Customer Sentiment” and “Views of Fraze Services and Amenities,”
representing the sections in this report. In each section, the results from the 2015 survey are
described in detail, and statistical differences between demographic cohorts is noted whenever
applicable.
Survey Methodology
The survey instrument was designed by KPRCA officials and employees with guidance from
researchers at Wright State University’s Center for Urban and Public Affairs. The questionnaire
was developed with two purposes in mind: first to gauge public sentiment; and second to garner
input to update the facility’s plan. To view the survey instrument, see Appendix A.
Data collection lasted from September 3 to September 28, 2015. The survey was programmed
and data was collected online. Contact lists were provided by the City of Kettering. Survey
requests were sent out to a total of 375 Super Users and 4,000 residents were invited to take
the survey. Residents were randomly selected from a list of City of Kettering residents and were
distributed geographically across the City. 763 individuals responded to the survey requests –
212 Super Users responded to E-mail requests and an additional 551 responses to the citizen
request. However, 25 of the respondents to the citizen request currently live outside the City of
Kettering and these results are presented in Appendix C. Fourteen of the responses collected
were incomplete and discarded from the analysis. The remaining 512 citizen responses are
discussed later in the body of this report.

General Customer Sentiment
This section summarizes the perceptions of season ticket subscribers and frequent patrons
(Super Users). Survey questions have been grouped into topical areas, such as “General
Sentiment”, and (satisfaction with) “Fraze Services and Amenities.” The appendices provide
additional detail.
The survey first established how frequently Super Users attend concerts or events at the Fraze
and what events were attended. Just over half of respondents indicated that they attend a
concert or event at the Fraze six or more times per season, while 44.5% attend 1-5 times per
season. Nearly everyone indicated that they attend reserved seat shows (94.8%) and less than
half of respondents indicated that they attend the general admission events. Refer to the
following figures for more detail.

Kettering Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts |Fraze Pavilion Customer Satisfaction Survey
The majority of Fraze Pavilion Super Users were either very satisfied (63.5%) or satisfied
(32.2%) with their overall guest experience at the Fraze. Almost all of the Super Users (98.1%)
are satisfied with the number of events offered at the Fraze during the summer season and just
over ninety percent (90.9%) of Super Users are very satisfied (29.2%) or satisfied (61.7%) with
the mix of artists or programming at the Fraze. However, 87.8% or Super Users indicated that
they would also invite the opportunity to select from an additional 5-10 concerts per season.
Figure 3: General Customer Satisfaction
When Super Users were asked where else they attend concerts, the top four locations cited
were all local venues – the Schuster Center (66.5%) and Victoria Theatre (49.5%) in downtown
Dayton, the Nutter Center (59.4%) at Wright State University in Greene County, and the Rose
Music Center (43.9%) in Huber Heights. When asked to rank their preference for venue on a
scale of 1 to 10, where 1 equals the first choice or most favorable preference and 10 equals the
last choice or least favorable preference, the Fraze was the 1st choice of Super Users (mean

community include opportunities to engage in arts and music, enriched quality of life, summer
employment opportunities, additional business for local restaurants and shops, and social
connections.

Transportation and Parking
When attending concerts or events at the Fraze, Super Users prefer to drive (94.2%) over other
modes of transportation and 92.3% find parking to be very easy or easy at these events. When
asked if they would be willing to pay a small fee to access preferred parking at Fraze events,
two-thirds of respondents indicated that they would not.
Seating
When purchasing tickets for reserved seat shows, Super Users primarily prefer to sit in plaza
(30.0%) or orchestra seating (43.5%) and could find their seats with ease. Nearly everyone
(95.1%) agreed that they could see all or most of the production and the sitelines to the stage
were good (37.9%) or excellent (57.3%). However, 60.4% of Super User would also like to see
video screens added to the pavilion. Comfort is what influences their seating choice the most
(48.1% of respondents) at Fraze events and 42.3% of Super User patrons would like to see
more reserved seating available at the Fraze. When asked if they have ever had trouble
securing reserved plaza or orchestra seating at a Fraze, 56.7% of respondents indicated that
they had and were unable to because the seats were already sold out. As an alternate to
orchestra/plaza seating, patrons prefer lawn seating over terrace seating 3-to-1. However when
their preferred seating cannot be purchased, 56.1% of Super Users would not purchase tickets
in other levels and would pass on the concert or event.

Plaza and Orchestra Seating Patrons
Of respondents who primarily sit in orchestra or plaza level seating, 59.9% indicated that they
had tried to purchase tickets in plaza or orchestra seating, but the seats were already sold out.
Two-thirds (67.4%) of plaza and orchestra patrons indicate that they would not purchase tickets
available in the other seating sections and prefer to pass on the event. Refer to the following
figure. Seating availability (47.6%) and comfort (49.0%) influence patrons of orchestra or plaza
level seating the most. Of the one-third of plaza/orchestra patrons who indicated that they would
purchase other ticket options, lawn seating was preferred 2-to-1 over terrace or bleachers seats.
Ninety-three percent of orchestra or plaza level patrons agree that siteline to the stage are good
or excellent, but 57.8% would still like to see permanent video screens at the Fraze.

Lawn Seating Patrons
All lawn seating patrons (n=20) reported that the sitelines to the stage are good or excellent and
they can see the whole or most of the production, but three-quarters of respondents would like
to see permanent video screens at the Fraze. Lawn seating patrons indicated no interest in
additional reserved seating and comfort and price are what influences lawn seating preference
the most. One patron indicated that they preferred lawn seating “because it is easier to sit with
friends, we always use our own chair backs, and there is more room to stretch your legs on the
lawn.”
Best Available Seating
Two-thirds of patrons (n=33) who indicated that they purchase the best available seating at
Fraze events have tried to purchase plaza or orchestra seating, but the seats were sold out.
Forty-two percent of these Super Users preferred to pass on the event when orchestra/plaza
tickets are sold out, but 39.4% will purchase lawn seats and 18.2% will purchase terrace
seating. Seating availability is what influences their seating choice the most and over two-thirds
of the patrons would like to see additional reserved seating added to the Fraze venue.
Concessions
Most Super Users (82.4%) purchase concessions at a Fraze event and 88.6% pay for their
concessions at the event with cash. One in seven (14.1%) indicate that they have purchased
boxed dinners at an event, but an updated menu and vegetarian options were indicated as a
nice change to the boxed dinner line up. While four out of five Super Users are satisfied with the
concession menu and the quality of the food service, 42.5% of Super Users feel that healthy
menu options are important when considering their concession purchases. Long or slowly
moving concession lines were the most frequently cited reference to concession
discontentment.

City of Kettering Residents
Demographics
The following presents a demographic profile of the City of Kettering resident survey
respondents. The data were weighted by age and gender to provide more accurate estimates
and to adjust the distribution of the sample data to reflect the demographics of the adult
population of the City. By weighting the data, the responses of persons in various subgroups are
adjusted to compensate for the over-representation or under-representation of these persons in
the survey sample.
Just over half of respondents are female. One-quarter of respondents (27.8%) are adults
between the ages of 18 and 34 and 22.5% are senior adults 65 years of age or older. All other
age groups are nearly equally distributed at 14.5-18.6% of respondents. Refer to the following
figures for a detailed look at respondents by age or gender.

General Customer Sentiment
This section summarizes the perceptions of City of Kettering residents about Fraze Pavilion
services and amenities. Survey questions have once again been grouped into topical areas,
such as “General Sentiment”, and (satisfaction with) “Fraze Services and Amenities.” The
appendices provide additional detail.
Most residents (86.6%) indicated that they attend events or concerts at the Fraze. Half of
respondents attend events 1-5 times per season and 8.2% attend more regularly, six or more
times per season. Refer to the following figure. When residents were asked why they do not
regularly attend events at the Fraze, the most frequently cited reasons were that they were too
busy (23.5%) or did not like the selection of programming (35.0%). Seventy percent of residents
indicated that they attend reserved seat shows and free festivals, and at least 9.4% respondents
indicated that they attend the general admission events. Refer to the following figures for more
detail.

Kettering Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts |Fraze Pavilion Customer Satisfaction Survey
Nearly everyone (96.4%) was satisfied with the overall guest experience at the Fraze – 42.3%
are very satisfied and 54.1% are satisfied. The most common complaints about the venue are
related to rude and unfriendly staff at the events. Almost all of the City of Kettering resident
respondents (93.2%) are satisfied with the number of events offered at the Fraze during the
summer season, but 85.1% of respondents would like the opportunity to select from an
additional 5-10 concerts per season. Residents are less satisfied with the artist mix or
programming selection than the Super Users – 76.8% of residents indicated they were satisfied
compared to 90.9% of Super Users. These findings are significant by age. The younger age
cohorts (ages 18-44) are significantly more likely to indicate dissatisfaction with the
programming mix and number of concerts offered during the summer season at the Fraze and
more likely to indicated a desire to be able to choose from additional concerts. Similarly, male
respondents are more likely to be dissatisfied with the programming and number of concerts
offered at the Fraze and this finding is also significant. Residents who voiced dissatisfaction with
the artist mix primarily feel that the bands playing at the Fraze are outdated and made
suggestions which generally involve updating the mix of bands to include “current” bands, like
Ray LaMontagne and the Avett Brothers, at the Fraze.
Figure 19: General Customer Satisfaction
When residents were asked where else they attend concerts, the top three locations cited were
all local venues – the Schuster Center (60.6%) and Victoria Theatre (39.8%) in downtown
Dayton, and the Nutter Center (50.5%) at Wright State University in Greene County. Venue
attendance by location is also significantly different by age cohort – residents between the ages
of 18-44 are significantly more likely to attend conferences at the Nutter Center, Riverbend,
PNC Pavilion, and Hara Area than are older residents and less likely to attend concerts at the
Rose Music Center. When asked to rank their preference for venue on a scale of 1 to 10, where
1 equals the first choice or most favorable preference and 10 equals the last choice or least
favorable preference, the Fraze was the 1st choice of resident respondents (mean score 2.09),
the Schuster Center was their 2nd choice (mean score 2.81), and the Nutter Center was their 3rd
(mean score 3.29).

Ticketed Events
Nearly all of resident respondents (97.6%) are satisfied with the ticket buying experience.
Residents are least satisfied with the ticket buying experience when they purchase tickets over
the phone. When asked what method was used to purchase tickets for Fraze Pavilion concerts
or events, nearly half of respondents (47.1%) indicated that they purchase tickets from the
Fraze Lincoln Park ticket office and were satisfied with the experience. Approximately one-third
of respondents indicated that they purchase tickets from the Fraze.com or Fraze Fanfare, and
almost all of the patrons were satisfied with the ticket buying experience. The younger age
cohorts and male respondents are significantly more likely to purchase their tickets at
Fraze.com, while the older age groups (45 or older) are more likely to purchase their tickets at
Fraze Fanfare or the Lincoln Park ticket office.

Transportation and Parking
When attending concerts or events at the Fraze, residents also prefer to drive (76.2%) over
other modes of transportation and 78.3% find parking to be very easy or easy at these events.
Those individuals who found parking to be difficult cite such reasons as an inadequate number
of parking spaces available, an inadequate number of handicap spaces, distance from the
venue of available parking, and congestion around the Fraze. When asked if they would be
willing to pay a small fee to access preferred parking at Fraze events, 7 out of 10 respondents
indicated that they would not. As age increasing, so does the likelihood to prefer driving to the
event.
Seating
When purchasing tickets for reserved seat shows, residents can find their seats with ease and
primarily prefer to sit in lawn seating (31.8%) or chose best available seating (24.2%). For a
complete breakdown by seating preference, refer to the following figure. When asked if they
have ever had trouble securing reserved plaza or orchestra seating at a Fraze event, 47.3% of
respondents indicated that they had and were unable to because the seats were already sold
out. When plaza or orchestra seating cannot be purchased, 24.7% of residents would not
purchase tickets in other levels and would pass on the concert or event. Of those who do prefer
an alternate to orchestra/plaza seating, patrons prefer lawn seating over terrace seating –
52.4% and 22.9%, respectively. Price is what influences resident seating choice the most
(66.6% of respondents) at Fraze events. Sixty percent or resident patrons have no interest in
additional reserved seating at the Fraze. Younger residents (ages 18-34) are significantly more
likely to prefer the lawn seating and price influences their seating choice, while seniors are
significantly more likely to prefer orchestra seating and comfort is what influences seniors
seating choice.
Nearly everyone (93.9%) agreed that they could see all or most of the production and the
sitelines to the stage were good (51.0%) or excellent (42.9%). Nearly sixty percent (58.5%) of
residents would like to see video screens added to the pavilion.

Plaza and Orchestra Seating Patrons
Of respondents who primarily sit in orchestra or plaza level seating, 52.3% indicated that they
had tried to purchase tickets in plaza or orchestra seating, but the seats were already sold out.
Sixty-two percent would like to see more reserved seating. Twenty-eight percent of plaza and
orchestra patrons indicate that they would not purchase tickets available in the other seating
sections and prefer to pass on the event. Refer to the following figure. Seating availability
(46.2%), comfort (49.8%), and price (51.7%) influence patrons of orchestra or plaza level
seating choice. Of the plaza/orchestra patrons who indicated that they would purchase other
ticket options, lawn seating (38.2%) was preferred slightly over terrace or bleachers seats
(33.4%). Ninety-one percent of orchestra or plaza level patrons agree that the sitelines to the
stage are good or excellent, but 57.7% would still like to see permanent video screens at the
Fraze.

Lawn Seating Patrons
Almost all lawn seating patrons (97.3%) reported that the sitelines to the stage are good or
excellent and they can see the whole or most of the production, but three out of five
respondents would like to see permanent video screens at the Fraze. Lawn seating patrons
indicated no interest in additional reserved seating and comfort and price are what influences
lawn seating preference the most.
Best Available Seating
Two-thirds of patrons (65.2%) who indicated that they purchase the best available seating at
Fraze events have tried to purchase plaza or orchestra seating, but the seats were sold out.
One-third (35.5%) of these patrons preferred to pass on the event when orchestra/plaza tickets
are sold out, but 42.3% will purchase lawn seats and 22.2% will purchase terrace seating. Price
and seating availability are what influences their seating choice the most (61.0% and 46.9%,
respectively) and over just under half (47.8%) of the patrons would like to see additional
reserved seating added to the Fraze venue. Three out of five of these patrons would like to see
video screens added to the venue.

Concessions
Three-quarter of residents (75.4%) purchase concessions at a Fraze event and 58.9% pay for
their concessions at the event with cash. However, patrons between the ages of 18-44 are
significantly more likely to pay by credit card than adults 45 years of age or older. One in fifteen
(6.8%) indicate that they have purchased boxed dinners at an event and this is more likely of
patrons ages 55 and older. Ninety percent are satisfied with the concession menu and the
quality of the food service. However, 42.9% of resident respondents feel that healthy menu
options are important when considering their concession purchases. Long or slowly moving
concession lines were the most frequently cited reference to concession discontentment.
Conclusion
Overall, most survey respondents attend reserved-seating admission events at Fraze Pavilion at
least once per season and indicate that the Fraze is their venue of choice. Almost everyone is
satisfied with the overall guest experience and the number of events offered during the season.
Patrons also welcome the opportunity to choose from an additional 1-5 shows per season. Nine
out of ten Super Users and three-quarters of City of Kettering resident respondents are satisfied
with the mix of artists or programming offered at the Fraze. Patrons are also pleased with the
sitelines to the stage and report that the can see all or most of the production, but also indicate
that video are a welcome addition to the venue. Super Users and residents who prefer “best
available seating” would like to see additional reserved seating added to the Fraze Pavilion.

(especially on the lawn). We have witnessed and on occasion been involved in angry altercations due to this issue.
The Fraze staff doesn't seem to have the ability to handle this well. Might there be a way to have set areas that
cater to both parties?

Concession lines for food are too long and move too slowly. There has got to be a faster way to serve. You can't
gave the same person take your order, go get your beer or wine, and then take your money. There should be more
helpers. One person should just take the money and she should have 2 go-fers to track down the order. This would
make things go quicker. And you would sell more and make more! I've walked past many long lines and said it’s
not worth the wait. The craft beer station does this, meaning as more help and there is someone else getting the
beer while someone else takes the money
Disappointed in the food choices and particularly the boxed dinners. We usually stop at a restaurant on the way,
but would like the option of good Fraze food.
I like the Fraze ... travel 5 hours for events, however do have clients in Kettering/Dayton area. Only potential
improvements would be more parking, shorter beverage lines, and a roof over Plaza and Orchestra seats, and
slightly wider Plaza seats that are no bound together (bonus if with cup holders).
I love the Fraze
I love the Fraze almost as much as I love my wife!
I was concern with the number of quality artist offered this season!
I wish the concession lines would go quicker. Standing in the line for twenty minutes and sometimes longer is not
fun.
I would like the freedom to return to my car after admission
I would like to see a larger selection or a change in the box dinners. They are very good but the selection has been
the same for years. It would be nice to have more than one vegetarian option.
If a good performer is coming to the Fraze, I try to buy 12-24 tickets and take some family & friends. Since I can
only buy 4 tickets at a time early on, we can't all sit together. What I like to do is bring some food/drink along and
"tailgate" so we ca all visit before the show. We don't prepare any food there, we don't leave a mess, and we are
usually 35-65 years of age, so no stupid stuff. I have had issues before when security people got upset because
we were doing this so I have backed off the last few years, for the most part. It would be nice in a situation like this
if you could have a certain area for people to get together before the show.
Love the atmosphere of the Fraze Lawn setting just gets a bit complicated during sell outs but do not know what
the answer is. Also, love that in most cases, the crowd is very "well behaved”. No drunk or obnoxious people like
you find at Riverbend.
Make it easier to pay for parking at the time of ordering tickets and better designate where the parking is
Need lines at concession just for water - you have to wait in such a long line just for a water bottle (probably
because you are in same line for beer/wine) Need to rethink infant policy - You should not have to buy a ticket for
a young infant who is in wrap
Seems a shame that Kettering can't somehow work out parking agreement for Tropics/Fraze customers with office
owners, just saying’!
Smoking should be restricted to the farthest corner away from restrooms and concessions. Currently, you have
them placed in the center requiring everyone to walk through them to get anywhere. You do a brisk sale of drinks.
This is evident by the fact that they are usually less than cold due to quick turnover. Buy larger coolers and
increase drink charges by $0.15 to $0.25 to defray the cost. We might grumble about the price of a pop or a beer
but at least it would be cold.
Sometimes it is annoying when people continue to stand during the majority of the concert
The Fraze Pavilion is, in my opinion, one of the best venues of its size in the country. It's by far my favorite concert
venue. The only aspect I'd like to see improved is the concessions. There are very few food choices, and most that
are offered are unhealthy. I'd like to see other food choices like sub sandwiches (Milano's preferably), grilled
chicken sandwiches, salads, etc. Other than that, I have no complaints. Great venue. Great concerts. Great staff.
The rules at times seem to be a negative. You start the season later than most and end too soon. More concerts
would be great!!!
There is a serious need for additional handicapped parking - the spots on the street fill for the sold out concerts
and the parking lot behind the buildings need additional handicapped spots added for ease of access. The staff at
Fraze, especially the users, are always pleasant and helpful. I appreciate the overall experience at Fraze and look
forward to what great acts you might bring in 2016.
This past season I was disappointed with the lineup. The Rose had better concerts but I don't like the drive there
Ticketing should be reassessed.
We had some parking issues mid-season in terms of the friends of the Fraze. Once we brought them to the
attention of management they took care of the issue for the rest of the season. We hope they follow the newer
guidelines they set up again next year.
We love the Fraze! However, we would like to see some new performers such as Megan Trainor, St Paul & The
Broken Bones, Jason Mraz, Keyshia Cole, Leona Lewis, Alabama Shakes, etc. Thank you for the survey; this is
great opportunity to share information and is greatly appreciated.
Would like to see a limit to number of drinks a person may have during the concert as several people get stinking
drunk and obnoxious. Security needs to monitor the crowd better, and remove these individuals quickly. They
bought a ticket to see a performance, not to become a spectacle at the performance. Believe that if I leave my

seat for any reason, I'm allowed back in to go to my seat during any song/performance...I'm the paying customer.
When you say the doors will be open, that's when the doors are opened; and you don't keep the crowd that has
arrived early for seating, either waiting at the 'door' or waiting at the pavilion entrance for another 20 minutes.
Other than these minor complaints, we always enjoy the selection of performers that are booked during each
season...really looking forward to next year!
Would like to see a more friendly approach to lawn seating with blankets. We buy 250+tickets to Menus and utilize
a bus to bring a large group over but do not want to come at 6:30 for an 8:00 pm show. If we did the blankets
would be down with no one on hem until show time as is the case when some from our group come at 6:30 and
put the blankets down. This facilitates a large group entering thru the side gate and not disturbing the other
concert attendees. The biggest disruption is actually the staff telling the group of early arrivals they can’t put the
blanket down for others who either haven't arrived or are out at the concessions until show time.
You do not need to know my income.

WHY WERE YOU DISSATISFIED WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE AT THE FRAZE PAVILION?

A couple of times I was told to stop doing something that was not unreasonable.
1. I was told to change sides of the sidewalk while walking on the street toward the entrance. ISO I went
directly home.
2. I walked into the pavilion. Stood there for maybe 30 seconds as I looking for someone and was told I
couldn't stand there I think because it was a handicapped seating area At that time it wasn't marked as
so. So my impression of the Fraze is that is the "don't do that" place to see a concert. No fun.

Crappy parking situation.

Customer service is poor. Vibe is terrible. Lots of grumpy people telling people they cannot dance. Also very poor
selection of shows. Need to appeal to younger people more.

Employees were rude. After attending an event at The Rose and then going back to the Fraze I saw how
unpleasant a good many of your employees are. Wasn't like that at The Rose.

Family used to go 5 to ten times per season. But it has become very unfriendly environment to patrons. Long line,
rude help. Dirty restrooms. Seriously, who confiscates a package of peanuts from a pregnant woman's purse—
FRAZE? Who bans beach balls from a Beach Boys Concert? Concessions are poor quality and overpriced.

Festivals are sort of packed together and seem unorganized. We always walk from home so it's OK on a nice day.
One year we brought an umbrella as there was a good chance of rain. It was not raining currently and the umbrella
was tucked in my wife's purse, but we were told to leave it at the entrance because umbrellas were not permitted.
When we went to leave the same person told us that they no longer had the umbrella and we had to walk all the
way back through the festival to the main concession area to get i? So we were not allowed to walk around with it
but to get I back I had to carry it through the crowd anyway?

Food selections are not very good - also believe prices are too high and lines this year were terribly long and very
disorganized

High dollar concert rained out during with no refund.

Moody Blues concert was stopped because of lightning. I was later told that the show resumed and was
completed. Apparently, there was an announcement on the loud speaker that the show would resume in 20
minutes. I was there with 3 other people and none of our group heard it. So we were cheated out of the remaining
concert because the announcement couldn't be heard. We are big M.B. fans and we went to their concert in
Columbus a couple of weeks later for the entire concert. Big Bummer!!

My son is in a wheelchair and seating choices are very limited. You are forced to buy the most expensive tickets
close to the stage to prevent people (guests) from standing and blocking your view. But the still do even if you are
in row 2 or 3 and invariably they seat you right in front of the speakers. There are no good options if you attend
with someone who is in a wheelchair. However, wheelchair parking is excellent.

Person in front of me would not sit down, she was drunk and disorderly thru the whole show, and security did
nothing about it, even when I asked them to, they just stood there, I missed the whole show because of this, and it
was the last time George Jones was thee.

Prices that were once reasonable have risen too high, too fast

Rude helpers.

The last few years attending concerts have seemed more like a chore than being there to have a good time. The
workers seem almost militant - not friendly - and they seem to "come down" on the people who are having a good
time as opposed to the people who are actually violating the rules (e.g. smoking inside the concert venue).

The last three years have been pretty much the same - no real difference, even many of the same acts or
performances. We did not go to a single event this year. Very little if any events for kids or grandkids.

There is a level of watchfulness that is surreal, that is not found at other concert venues. Volunteers/security watch
everything you do--and I don't drink or smoke and am not young. At one concert, security people were facing from
the state up the step watching the crowd. That is distracting and rather oppressive in tone. At a free event, security
people/volunteers patrolled the ground making people move their chairs from the shade. There is an attitude that
makes the entire evening oppressive. Security is fine, but the Fraze goes to a level way beyond what is required.

There is nowhere to go if it rains. I had paid a lot for a concert it was rained out not rescheduled.


Too many restrictions, especially in the lawn area. In particular, the rules about outside food seem to have nothing
to do with keeping the area clean or impact on others' experience, but rather just serve to try to force business to
the on-site vendors.
Uptight atmosphere. Poor quality acts, usually bands that had only mediocre success at their peak and now hasbeens on the way down. Sound is often way too loud. By the way, the point of the questions below is unclear.
Every item on the list is "potentially" an impact.
Was a Fraze Founder, but lost status because of my refusal to "re-up". Not part of the original deal. Once a Fraze

I'm handicapped and use a wheelchair. I need a wide parking spot because of chair lift. Parking
was hard to find. If i park at high school, i take the chance of being hit from traffic in cross walk.
People don't pay enough attention to people in wheelchairs, especially if the chair bound
person is alone.
Mostly has to do with what time we get there.
They should purchase some of that business area next door and build a garage.
We have a founder's parking pass, the parking attendants are sometimes rude, over-reaching in their authority.
Not allowing parking right in front of the building next to the Fraze.
Parking is currently free. Would you be willing to pay a small fee for close up, preferred

WHY ARE YOU DISSATISFIED WITH THE ARTIST MIX/PROGRAMMING SELECTION AT FRAZE?

a majority of choices do not appeal to me,

As stated before, too many artists who had mediocre success in the 70's and 80's, and have declined in
performance ability. Those from that era who are still giving great performances, like Neil Young, James Taylor,
are usually appearing at larger venues like Riverbend. Current bands, Tedeschi-Trucks, whom I saw at the Rose
this year, or Wilco, perform at larger venues. The Fraze is becoming well-known as the place to go to hang out
with white hairs and see washed up artists. I say this being a white-air myself, I'm 61.

Bands are a little older for my taste

Bands are too outdated

Because it generally a selections of past-their-prime crappy pop artists. There is an overall lack of appeal for young
people. The range of artists is laughable. Such a lack of upcoming music.

Better last year: bigger names and better artists, Steve Martin was worth the money. Willie Nelson wouldn't have
been with ocms.

Could be better artists to choose to see.

Current stars instead of largely oldies would be better. More music only artists might be better.

Enough with "classic" artists! Bring some new acts or music talent.

Few that I want to see and then cannot get decent seats

For us, too much country. We've been coming to the Fraze for 20years, and understand that tastes are changing.
But James Taylor, Mellissa Etheridge, KD Laing, Boz Scaggs, original artists, work for us. We're old! We laugh that
Fraze continues to select "dad bands" on tour from the 70's and 80's. But! We loved Little River Band and joined in
the sing-alongs (we knew all the words). Watch out for the Rose in Huber . . .

Had no interest in most acts

Huber Heights got all the good shows this year

I am not a country music fan and would prefer more classical options

I dislike cheap acts & tribute bands. Many good acts were touring - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, CS&N, Kenny Loggins,
Doobie Bros, & more -- instead we got Weird Al. Missed Willie Nelson's show - sold out, but that would have been
good. Also - I'm older & o fixed income - I can't sit on the grass, but I can't afford the better seats.(my problem, I
guess). I live nearby and used to hear the shows a little - couldn't hear much this summer - too bad, I would have
liked to have at least listened.

I don't like the artists that generally come there. It seems to be mostly people on the tail end of their career or
cover bands.

I don't like tribute bands. More than that, we would like to see more Christian artists perform besides the annual
Gospel Fest.

I feel as if now that the venue in Huber Heights is open that the Fraze is struggling to compete to get bigger named
artist in the venue. I think they should compete with the heights venue. It's good for community

I HATE swamp romp. HATE it!!!! Provide a survey asking people their favorite artists and get an idea of the variety
and not the same artists every year. By the way, I HATE swamp romp! And I know I spelled it wrong - that is a sign
of disrespect toward something I HATE that much. I leave town when they are here.

I want to see more bands like The Avett Brothers. Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs. Edward Sharpe and the
Magnetic Zeros.

i would like more rhythm and blues

I would like to see bigger acts booked at the Fraze. I believe the venue is to attractive not to be bringing in bigger
names. Think more outside the box than booking such conservative acts.

I would like to see more bands and a better variety. I felt this year wasn't very strong for acts/artist that came.

I would like to see more comedy acts. Maybe even a comedy festival. I would like to see more affordable acts that
are well-known.

I would like to see more of a variety of music and artists. What about a big band music night? When the Fraze first
opened I believe the Dayton Philharmonic performed. It would be nice to have them back. Some of the artists that
come have been around long time. While that is fine, it would be nice to have some newer artists come that are
willing to play a small venue.

I would prefer more senior interest groups that match the residents of Kettering.

If Kettering were a retirement community your selections would make sense.

It doesn't seem we are getting the quality or variety we had years ago.
It feels like the same old thing each year, bands for Tweens and bands for baby boomers. I'd like to see newer
bands, alternative music, something for the 20-40 year old crowd. I saw both Get the Led Out and Willie Nelson
this year. They have been at the Fraze many times. I doubt I'd go again. I realize that the shows sell out but I think
you're ignoring an audience that will eventually not think of the Fraze and always go to Huber. I live in Kettering
and would like to attend more shows. Also the beer lies are ridiculously long and I do not understand why specialty
wine and beer are separate.
It feels very limited. I would also like to see more non-music events.
It is targeted for older adults. Not enough young/current pop artists or rock bands
It seems the same concerts are booked. Very tired mix/programming. The 30 somethings don't come anymore.
Due to attendant "Nazis" and old people music.
Its seems to be the same venue and some of the venues are loved and some are getting old
Line ups have been better in years past.
Mainly geared towards older crowd. Nothing that appeals to younger concertgoers.
More artist geared for young adults (age 30)
More diversity in acts is needed.
Mostly has-beens performing or acts that I have seen before at Fraze
Mostly rock and pop. Would like more jazz.
Much higher priced, lower diversity and quality than available at Rose Music Center
My wife and I are generally not interested in the artists performing at the Fraze. The last concert wife enjoyed a
great deal was Dennis DeYoung.
Need more current artists. Too many have been here multiple times. I would pay more for a current band. I know it
might be more expensive per ticket with such a small venue, but it would be more intimate and worth it.
Need more of a variety and bigger names
Need newer more mainstream artists
Need to bring younger acts.
Needs more newer bands
No one I like comes there. It needs a better conglomeration of genes.
Not bad selection but haven't found much that interests me. I like indie, hard rock, metal. Also classical/opera.
Not enough current artists
Not enough genre to select from. Add more selection of artists or festivals
Not enough indie or alternative artists.
Not enough R&B. Acts too old.
Not many newer and popular country singers. Reba is an older singer although great performer but ticket prices
were way too high for a family to enjoy
Not too many shows fit in the demographics for a late-20's couple without kids. That's fine, we're not the target
demo, but we'd probably see more if they were artists we enjoyed.
Not very many current artists
Quality has gone down over the years.
Retread white bread middle of the road garbage isn't for me
Same concerts yearly. Need new or different artists/groups
Same old acts. Not much new. $2 and $5 acts are free everywhere else. Stubbs much more user friendly. For
major acts Riverbend and Rose Center are much more pleasant venues.
see the last comments
some is just bad noise with no artistic quality
The concerts I wanted to see sold out too quickly. Too many cover bands and not enough "artist" series with a
larger variety of musical styles like bluegrass, older country musicians like John Michael Montgomery, and
musicians like Glen Hansard.
The Rose Center kicks Fraze's ###
There are many years that I only find one or two concerts that I want to attend (Avett Brothers, Steve Martin
examples from the last few years). I feel like the series usually appeals to a much older crowd and there are few
offerings for young or middle-aged concert goers.
There are not enough Jazz event (i.e. Boney James, Richard Elliot, etc.).
There is not enough variety. Too many b and c level. Bands. Too many classic rock or older person acts, nothing
new and exciting.
They appeal to people over 50
They have a lot of old geezer shows. One of the worst I ever saw was Marshall Tucker. Surely someone could
have vetted this show . . . People would probably spend a little more money for better shows or shows with more
current artists. Broaden your mix, i.e., bring back Jeff Foxworthy, Miami University Steel drum band, or possibly
well-known magician show.
To many 'old' bands and not enough current artists
Too many "cover" groups
Too many has been bands. while it is a fun night - would be nice to have more up and coming artists

Too many older bands
Too many repeat performers from year to year
Too many venues for ages 20 to 40. More Country Music singers and 60's and 70's music.
Too much pop/easy listening types of music.
Very few musicians that I would care to see
Way too many come-back, cover, and local bands. there used to be really good artists: Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt,
Ray Charles, BB King, Kenny Wayne Shepherd
We usually go to one or two ticketed shows per season but this season there were not any we really wanted to
see. I loved the Avett Brothers and enjoyed Chicago.
We-rein our 80's and have never heard of most of the artists and their music is not what we enjoy. We always try
to attend the Air Force Band and shows like Tony Bennet's but those are few and far between.
When it opened had better artists come to the Fraze. Also, as a city resident it was really nice to be able to sit by
the sidewalk and listen to the music. Very disappointed they took away that option, especially since I live in
Kettering and pay taxes.
Would appreciate a broader range of artists for the Under 50 crowd.
Would like to see more "current" musicians if possible. I enjoy the flashback artists, but someone newer and more
of the times would get my money for sure.
Would like to see more contemporary Christian Artists.
Would like to see more current artists. Seems to be more country artists than other genres.
Would like to see more variety . . . it seems like the same artists return year after year with a big name or two
added. I realize that the Fraze is not a huge attraction for many current artists but I still think you could get a better
variety of artists from the past.
Your artist repeat annually/bi-annually, the Rose Music Center had a better selection of artist, the number of artist
events could be increased, and the 2015 season seemed particularly underwhelming compared to other seasons.

If you have additional comments you would like to add, enter them below:

Add a few shows in September. Best weather. Maybe even late May.

Add more alcohol choices (Bourbon whiskey, vodka, etc.)- Many people do not like the beer and wine you serve.
With the number of cops at these events serving alcohol should not be a concern. The same idiots that get drunk
on beer and wine will probably get drunk on bourbon, etc.

As a Kettering taxpayer, I am disappointed in the use of taxes to support the Fraze

As Americans get heavier those seats seem smaller and rows seem closer together. I was at the Touch concert
this year and I felt cramped by people trying to move in and out of their seats.

At one time, we purchased tickets for the season, but parking got so difficult and we had to walk so far that we
gave up our season tickets. Also, the caliber of shows dropped for some time, but I notice you are having better
entertainment the past couple of years. I wish you well.

Better and more local beer selections

Better handicap parking

Book real bands, not lame old washed out artists only. Don't make bands stop at 10:00, way too early Be nice to
people who attend, your ushers are mean and don't make for a good experience

Bring back Diana Krall Would like to have Michael W. Smith Big Bands like Artie Shaw orchestra etc.

Bring back the ability to put chairs outside of the concert venue and listen to music. Especially Kettering residents.

Bring back the avert brothers! We would love to see josh Ritter!

Concert ticket discounts for Kettering residents, at least for those in a 5 mile radius. The ticket prices for concerts
do keep up from coming at this time, too expensive. But we love the Fraze and happy you're here!!! Not sure if the
money spent to update things was necessary as it was nice before and sounded great, additional money means
more expensive options which would again be sad. Please no large screens that would so take away from the feel
of the Fraze and don't take away free parking!!! Yikes, please don’t get greedy if you've spent too much; this is
what most Americans do . . . spend more than they have then try to make up for it by charging more or trying to get
more money for the same items.

Consider a cover . . . yes I said it . . . sell bottled drinks down near stage to keep foot traffic at a minimum and
eliminate long lines at concessions . . . La Rosas . . . .

Discontinue selling "limited view" reserved seating (orchestra). "Limited view" is an understatement. Same price
and get to watch a pole most of the night. I recommend not selling them anymore.

dislike seat jumping, wish something could be done about people waiting for the show to start to find their seats

Do more to make those who live in the neighborhood welcome. I know it's a $ maker, but blocking the park to
those who used to sit in the park and listen without buying a ticket was the worst PR move you've made! The
neighborhood aspect of the venue is null and void. There's no reason to be loyal to this venue. Might as well go to
the Rose, don't need to worry about rain! Maybe specials for those who live in the Residenz or the condos on
Isaac Prugh and Ackerman, or One Lincoln Park. "Security" at the road closure for handicapped need to not be so
rude. They tend to act like they are the king of the hill. Better signage when Lincoln Park is closed. Pain in the butt
when you don't know until you get to the l light. Better Fraze signage from 675 and 75, the little brown signs are
hard to find. The city should actively recruit a business for the old restaurant across the street.

Don't ask income questions. You guys need to find your niche. The Fraze is a wonderful local venue, and people
enjoy its "neighborliness". We aren't major venues and we shouldn't try to be. Who wants to be Riverbend in our
lovely city?

Don't have a cut off time!!!

Don't understand when all exits are not open after a concert.

For some of the free outdoor venues example Swamp Romp, more portable shade needs to be provided at the
side close to the stage when people dance they can get out of the sun. Thank You

Fraze does some great community events. Needs more bluegrass and blues choices, but I understand why they
go for more contemporary pop/younger targets. Just tone down the oppressive and unnecessary security. No other
concert is like that. Even outdoor concerts and fiestas at Dayton lack such presence--and have no problems.

Fraze had a good thing going a few years ago when you allowed people to sit outside and listen to concerts. Then
you blocked off the outside lawn and forced everyone to go inside and buy tickets. I understand that people were

probably not cleaning up after themselves, but you could have found a better option than what you did. I had a very
negative affect on how people view Fraze. Now you have to compete with Rose and their selection of artists blows
Fraze away.
Fraze is a wonderful attraction for the city of Kettering. We don't go often due to health issues (86) but it is
something the city can be proud of. All those who are involved in the work/productions are to be commended, plus
the city for offering such a great venue to Kettering residents
Free Fraze was such fun. It was a great time to hear the entertainment if there weren't tickets available, plus the
decision to stop because of the residence complaints. REALLY??
Have a few concerts into the first of October. There is some pretty nice weather in September and October.
I am very surprised Fraze conducting survey. They have a reputation of never listening to feedback. In fact, they're
quite short and abrasive.
I do not like them searching my purse and belongings, especially when I'm carrying a purse that is barely big
enough to hold a cell phone. It's intrusive. Nowhere else that I go to see a concert do they look in purses and
assume everyone is a water bottle carrying criminal. The venues listed above do not do that type of checking. They
assume we are all responsible adults. I think the good will you could engender if you didn't search every patron
would be worth the cost of those errant people who would sneak in a bottle of water or whatever you are so
worried about. It really leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. The Rose center did not do that. Maybe check
back packs and large bags but not wallets and wristlets. Plus I've heard that if a man is carrying a purse or bag,
they don’t' search it.
I don't like the fact that if someone is standing in front of you during the whole concert there is nothing you can do
about it!
I feel the Security is overly aggressive. I miss the Festival atmosphere that the outside seating provided.
I hate concerts when the audience stands. Standing should be banned. Lines at concessions way too long.
I have no interest in seeing the same repetitive groups year after year, every year I ask myself who does the
booking, change it up, the rose offered a great variety, and some big names, I am heading to the Taft theater
tomorrow to see Joe Walsh, I chose not to attend the Fraze this year, hopefully we have a better selection of music
next year.
I just wasn't interested in many of the shows you offered this season. . . . . Also - I wondered if the Fraze has ever
thought about putting an open-air roof over the seating. Just wondered if it would cut down on rain delays (when
there's no lighting of course). Just a thought.
I love sitting in the lawn, but when a show sells out and you have to sit on top of someone it make for an
uncomfortable experience. Be nice to have some space between people even if a show sells out.
I love the Craze but it's hard to enjoy the show when people are coming and going constantly.
I love the Fraze. It's so convenient, but I have had technical difficulties buying tickets on Fraze.com. Bring a
comedy festival to the Fraze!
I loved the Christmas lights on Lincoln Park. My grandson was happy running up and down the sidewalk. Thank
you for all your efforts. My husband and I really enjoyed the summer Philharmonic concerts and I would like to see
them return.
I object to not being allowed to bring in my own water.
I still miss being able to sit along Lincoln Park Blvd to listen to some concerts. If there is any way to bring that back,
it would be great.
I think Fraze is such an asset to our community. We live across 48 and can hear concerts but I don't mind the
noise at all because I love having it close, I wish smoking was not allowed at the events, even outside the venue.
I think that the cut off time for alcohol is too early. I have found that some of the workers while I was volunteering
there have been rude. I think it's ridiculous that people cannot sit with lawn chairs outside of the pavilion and listen
to the concerts. White River State Park in Indianapolis is a great example of an outdoor concert venue that
provides an atmosphere that encourages people to picnic outside the theater and enjoy the city of Indianapolis.
Maybe The Fraze can use some of their ideas.
I think the Fraze is one of the best run and maintained venues in the Dayton area. From the shows, the
concession, the stagehands, the sound, the lights, the view -- everything is wonderful -- every time. I appreciate
having this amazing facility right in my neighborhood!
I very much enjoy all of my experiences attending Fraze events. Musical concerts, festivals; both free and pay
ones. I live in Kettering & have watched The Fraze schedule develop over many years; enjoy the variety of each
summer. Keep it up!!!
I want the free seating in the grass area back
I wish you would extend the season into September. The weather is still warm and comfortable. I also wish non
ticketed people can have access to the concession stands. As a resident of Kettering, I am offended that we don't
have access to the amenities there during the shows. There are times when I cannot get tickets but would still
enjoy the atmosphere. The time has come for the Fraze to adapt to the changing environment with the Rose
Center opening up. If not, they are going to eat your lunch with a greater selection of shows!
I would attend many concerts at the Fraze as I did upon first opening. Unfortunately, I feel the cost of a ticket to
see a band or individual has become ridiculous. I would attend many if the costs were more economical.
I would like if the venue was open through the month of September, longer season (April-September)

I would like the Fraze to sponsor a Boogie Woogie piano summit. Maybe with Ricky Nye the Boogie Woogie Guy
from Cincinnati. His address is PO Box 96370, Cincinnati, Ohio 45209.
I would like to see Amy Grant. She would be great at the Fraze
I would like to see concert tickets more affordable.
I would like to see more food options for vegetarians, it is difficult for me to find anything but a soft pretzel to eat
and often times those are sold out. I also would like to see people to be able to sit outside of the Fraze and listen to
the concerts, sometimes when tickets aren't available, people want to hear the music still. I remember years ago,
you could sit outside on a blanket and listen to the concert and buy concessions, I believe you are losing revenue
and many people are upset that the no longer can listen to the concert. I am aware that it was the owner of a
nearby restaurant that claimed it was costing him business by allowing people to do this, when in fact his
restaurant did not meet the needs of the area, nor did he run it well. It’s a shame.
I would like to see the Fraze loosen up the restriction of allowing people to sit on the sidewalk. Typically those
people will not purchase tickets anyway, and it is a good faith gesture to those who live close by and have to put
up with the additional traffic, etc.
I would prefer that the roads beside the pavilion not be blocked during the concerts. Frankly I feel that as taxpayers
we have the right to drive or walk on them. Before this was implemented the Fraze was a bigger draw to the
residents of Kettering.
If there was cover from the rain I would buy tickets a lot more. I hate to risk spending the money then having to sit
in the rain. This has happened twice and is not enjoyable. Love the smaller venue!
In years past I attended many events at the Fraze; however, this summer I did not attend any event. Last summer I
was very upset with the cost of beverages at the concerts and it took the fun out of attending the events. I don't
think 2 beers should cost more than a 12 pack or that a soft drink should be as expensive as it is. I can understand
that the Fraze may not want to encourage drinking too much alcohol by having the price be too low, but it should
not be that high either. I have also had friend comment that the guards are too militant. There did not seem to be
as many free or low-cost events this year as in years past. I like the venue and I think it is a great asset for
Kettering. It has just gotten too expensive to attend.
It is exciting to see 40-60 year old people attending concerts and talking about these concerts. They have more
disposable money. I think your concert schedule has done a nice job encouraging people like my daughter to come
to hear their favorite groups from years ago. When I first moved here, I went to the big band concerts and thought
I'd heard more than my share of them. Your more diverse selections are far better. Keep up the good work.
It was nice when you could go to Lincoln Park during a concert and enjoy the music and concessions even if you
didn't have a ticket.
It would be nice to again allow people to listen outside. Close the streets and allow food trucks/vendors as a way to
make the atmosphere more festive.
It would be nice to not have to purchase a ticket for newborn- 2 yrs. old
It would be wonderful if a roof could be added. It is very uncomfortable to sit in the hot sun. The heat and hot sun
burning down on us prevents us from seeing more shows at the Fraze. We attended a concert at the new Rose
Center and it was much more comfortable because there were fans and a nice cross breeze. If given the choice of
an artist that was performing at the Fraze and the Rose, we would choose the Rose. The seats are more
comfortable and the leg room is generous. The Fraze is much closer but the Rose is more comfortable.
It's "sight lines," not "sightlines."
Lines for concessions are too long and take too much time at times.
I love Fraze during perfect weather. The Rose is a better option for guaranteed non rain out. Happy with both.
Love Fraze . . . please keep/increase a cappella and vocal acts. Love seeing Fairmont kids opening!
Love the Fraze and Lincoln Park, we live very close and always enjoy attending functions. I think this is a great
draw for the community . . . would just love to see Journey again. Good work to all those who make this possible.
Love The Fraze! There is a mix of music, and I love that. However, I would go to more concerts if there were more
folk music. Especially, with up and coming bands. My family drive in from out of state to see The Avett Brothers
and Willie Nelson/Old Crow Medicine Show.
Love the Fraze. Very worried about what the Rose will mean to the Fraze. All the top musical groups and bands
seem to have gone to The Rose. The Rose had the kind of line-up the Fraze used to have.
Love the Fraze . . . it’s our #1 choice for concert venues!!
Love the park with its paths, lake & artwork. Would like to see more flowers there.
Lower concession prices. It's just wrong when you can buy a 24 pack of water at the store for less than the price of
one bottle at the Fraze. Makes you not want to buy there. During pay concerts, allow people without a ticket to get
into the area where the merchandise is sold, or bring the merchandise outside the ropes. For the people who live
in the neighborhoods surrounding the Fraze and have to put up with the noise, traffic, and people parking on the
streets, give them a discount for shows, or put on some sort of "Neighborhood Appreciation" concert for free or
cheap. Loosen restrictions on those who want to sit outside and listen to the music.
Miss the ability to hear (vs. see) concerts via lawn chairs on the grass in the area. Would prefer that alcohol not be
sold at concert events. Some people don't know when to quit, and get too loud and disorderly.
More Rock, less country
My biggest concern with buying high cost tickets (in advance) to attend concerts at the Fraze has to do with the
weather. I don't find it enjoyable to be in a crowd full of people if there is inclement or steamy hot weather. Also,

there is also the risk of not getting to attend the concert at all and getting nothing for my money. Ideally, there
would be a back-up location.
My family enjoys the festivals. I would like to see more of them.
My only problem with concerts at the Fraze is not being allowed to stand up and dance. It's a concert, not the
opera.
My wife and I enjoy the Fraze. However, the artists are generally not of interest to us.
None at this time.
Offer craft beer from Kettering brewers and food from Kettering food trucks
Overall, my wife and I enjoy our experiences at the Fraze.
Please bring back Mark Knopfler also Diana Krall. I have looked into buying the preferred seating, but at $1,000 it
seems a bit high, so we never did. We don't want to go to all the performances but would love the chance to get
seats in the first 10 row of the orchestra section. They always seem to be gone right away. Thanks for bringing
great performances to this area.
Please consider bringing back movies in the summer. I think they were only available one or two years but what a
fun time to be able to sit outside and watch a movie in such a delightfully pleasant venue. That was really nice.
Please do not ask Marshall Tucker to play here again! We loved their music, but that was the worst concert we
have ever been to! While we love sitting on the lawn, weather is a factor in our decisions to buy tickets. I would
love to see the Fraze offer fans or cooling stations. We do not smoke and hate walking through smokers in the
plaza to get into a concert or go to the restroom. Any help with this would be truly appreciated!
Please for the love of all things ask a young person who knows about music who to get to come to the Fraze.
Please improve wheelchair seating with a site-line that is NOT impacted when people stand at a concert!!! Also
make acceptable wheelchair seating at all price levels.
Please take the time to talk with an American Sign Language interpreter and a Deaf person to figure out the best
way to allow the Deaf person to enjoy the artist and see the interpreter at the same time. I am always stuck behind
other people and unable to see the interpreters. The interpreters are put to the left of the stage so I can either see
them or the artist, but not both at the same time. I was very disappointed at the Heart concert because I couldn't
see the Wilson sisters because of the drunk person in front of me standing up and attempting to record the concert
and then getting into several discussions with security over his actions. The interpreters were to the far left of the
stage. I had to keep moving my head around to see the interpreters through the people seated/standing in front of
me. I am willing to share the information from my textbooks if you are interested. There are approximately 30,000
deaf/hard of hearing people in the area. So many opportunities for more patrons if you offer (and advertise) the
services.
Please, please add new upcoming artists that aren't out of the Fraze budget. David Gray was excellent, Amos Lee,
Band of Horses, Ben Harper, Billy Currington, Cake, Darius Rucker (again), Fitz and the Tantrums, Gregg Allman
(again) Jerrod Nieman, Josh Kelly, Josh Turner, Kid Rock, Michael Franti (he does a yoga event before the
concert), moe., One Eskimo, Pat Green, Ray Lamontagne, Sara Evans, Third Day, Toby Lightman, UB 40 just to
name a few. Look into providing more concession lines during larger concerts. Even if the lines move fast, the
image it portrays is negative. Adding foods or allowing food trucks to have exclusive rights (for a fee) may be an
option! We need to refresh the tired concessions, be a little different and forward thinking.
Pricing for concerts is way too high for the Dayton area. Paid $300 for 2 tickets & bought them online & still had to
pay a processing fee? Really ridiculous.
Put a roof up!
Really like the idea of more seats and less lawn. I have always been happy with Fraze in the past, so this past year
there just wasn't enough concerts I was going to pay for. It is not a reflection of Fraze overall, just an off season.
Also, sections and eats need to be marked better.
Regarding the satisfaction level of concession food quality and service, I would have liked to see two different t
questions. If so, good quality would have been ranked "Very Dissatisfied" and quality of service by concession staff
would have been "Very Satisfied." The original Fraze Fanstore staff are awesome and very knowledgeable . . . the
newer Fraze Fanstore staff seem put out to have to wait on the public. The volunteers who work each event seem
happy to be there and happy to see my family. Overall, you all do a great job. The only reason we marked some
areas needing improvement is because we have the confidence you can and will make the necessary changes.
We do believe the Rose Music Center will challenge your audience for concerts (not for festivals).
Retired
Some of the concerts seem expensive compared to seeing the same artist at another venue
Suggest less stringent rules. I have attended concerts at Conner Prairie in Indiana - much more lax and very nice
experience.
The 2015 season at Fraze was awful, I hope to see better Artist's and prices in 2016. The City also needs to do
much, much better at encouraging and retaining restaurants near Fraze.
The booths for serving drinks are a bit long and uncoordinated. Would like to see more booths or smoother
process.
The concerts I would like to go too are too expensive. I love this venue, but pricing needs to come down so the
local community may attend instead of bringing people will to pay the high prices from far away. I'd rather go to
this intimate setting than any of the large arenas. Yes you offer free and $2 events but they are less appealing -good for families though.

The Fraze is great . . . love it
The Fraze is too restrictive with seating on the lawn. It would be nice to bring chairs to sit in. Also, some of the
ticket prices are too high.
The Fraze should have more winter events and cafe should be open more year round. The potential for more
revenue is there but untapped.
The Fraze staff members that get hired yearly need taught manners and courtesy. Feel they are "patrolling" like
guards around the premises and confront at times in an aggressive manner. This is the community's venue as
planned by Ernie Fraze and I think h would be sadden by this.
The Fraze was much more community oriented when people were permitted to sit outside the concert and listen. I
think it was a poor decision to block off the surrounding park for concerts. Taxpayers should be able to access the
park regardless of the concert schedule.
The golf carts transporting workers down to Lincoln Park and Ackerman to put up road signs should not be driven
on the sidewalks. I complained about this to a Fraze official a couple of years ago after one came right up behind
me on the sidewalk by the nursing home while I was walking my dog. He never yelled that he was right behind me.
It could have startled my dog. It startled me when I discovered he was right on my heels. Last year I did not have
this problem, but this year there was an evening where the cart was being driven on the sidewalk by the pond on
Lincoln Park. Apparently they were putting the road signs up. The carts should not be driven on the sidewalk. If
they are unsafe for travel on the road, then another vehicle needs to be used to transport the workers down to
Lincoln Park and Ackerman to put up the road signs. I have also heard of instances where Fraze people do not
want people walking through the fountain area during the day. I believe this year it happened when a teen idol was
performing that night. I understand certain parts of this area being closed off during concert times, but this area
should not be closed off to the public during the day.
The only downside to concerts at the Fraze is the uncertainty of the weather. The event I attended this year was on
a nice day and I bought the tickets day of show.
The only issue I have with the Fraze is when they shut down Lincoln Park - it is very inconvenient when they shut
down the road.
The park and facility are beautiful and wonderfully accessible. Thank you for keeping it so nice, attractive and
clean. The fountains, ponds, pools are most enjoyable. I think you should permit ice skating when the conditions
are right and numbers can be managed, with handicapped parking available to watch. I really think the Art in the
Park, Holiday at Home Art Show and some of the bands and music are good, I appreciate good music of all genres
but noise is ridiculous and inarticulate words horrendous. The younger generation is now coming to appreciate Big
Band Sounds and real music so try putting them on the docket to share real talent. Thanks for all you do, you are
appreciated even if some of the selections are pretty bad, but we know you bring in money but that should not be
the uppermost factor, real art performance is good for everyone and need to educate if necessary.
The protological attitude of the staff, combined with the removal of the seating on the street, has soured me on the
Fraze. I also find it extremely annoying that I can't sit outside the Fraze, but if I sit on my porch (about a mile away)
I can hear the music. This to me is intrusive noise and I wish it would go away. I would be quite content if the Fraze
closed permanently and all of its staff was laid off.
The question about what I do if the reserved seats are sold out could have multiple answers, depending upon the
event/artist. I might be satisfied with lawn seating, or I might pass on the event. I will say that I would not be likely
to purchase tickets for the terrace bleachers unless I had a very strong desire to see the event.
The reason I am dissatisfied with your concessions is that your food menu isn't gluten free friendly. If you do have
items that are gluten free, it would be nice if this was indicated on the menu signs. If you do not have gluten free
items, it would be great if you could add some and then advertise/indicate on the menu.
The staff and security are very arrogant and not friendly at all. This is one thing discouraging me from attending
concerts at the Fraze.
This season's lineup seemed to include more tribute bands than bands themselves. I went to fewer events as a
result as did many of my friends and neighbors. I hope next season brings more original acts.
Tickets are too expensive, Kettering home owners should get discounts. Our taxes built the Fraze.
Tickets to shows I am interested in are expensive --- and that is fine; I’m willing to pay for quality. But not at the risk
of sitting in the pouring rain. Tickets need to be refundable for bad weather, or put the lawn under a cover. The
sheltered seats are tremendously expensive, and I am not willing to pay because they are too uncomfortable to sit
in and enjoy a show.
Traffic control, congestion mitigation and drunk-rowdy patrons must be addressed for the Lincoln Park/Bromfield
neighborhood
Update the artists to current - improve food and reduce pricing on food and beer if not going to improve the quality
We appreciate the Fraze but due to being a single family income, we cannot attend events as much as we would
like.
We are Founders of Fraze . . . now we cannot find any concert that appeals. Used to attend all. Had our own
seats! Loved the Fraze!
We are season subscribers to opera, philharmonic and loft. We love having the Fraze in our backyard but rarely go
anymore because we're unfamiliar with the performers. Once in a while we'll go up to see what's going on but we
haven't purchased tickets i several years. However, we believe it's important to keep up the Fraze as a venue
where younger couples and families can go in the summer. We just don't happen to have any family living in or

near Dayton. I think having a good restaurant that focuses on food will be beneficial to attracting more people to
the Fraze. When it first opened this was a wonderful way to spend an evening with friends. Also, sitting on the
sidewalks was permitted then. That would be nice to bring back.
We have seen Marvin Hamlish, Harry Connick Jr., Johnny Mathis, Linda Ronstadt, Natalie Cole, The Beach Boys,
Chicago, Art Garfunkel, and many others over the years. I would like to see more of this type of entertainment.
We like to stay home, walk the dog, see our children and grandchildren, fish at the lake, volunteer. We don't go to
movies nor concerts. Income has nothing to do it; I’ve been a Corporate Executive and owned two business, and
you need to read The Millionaire Next Door. 45 years married and happy. Going out to eat is our entertainment.
We only use coupons. We are not into Starbucks. We only drive town cars. Never had a party and do not go to
parties. We also know several couples like ourselves. Well enough of the learning process for you today.
We live close enough that we can hear the music from the Fraze in the comfort of our back yard. However, with a
busy lifestyle and several children we do not have time attend concerts or the free events at the Fraze. Once in a
while we will have time to sit in the back yard or in the pool and visit with friends while the Fraze provides the
background music for us.
We love the Fraze; the atmosphere is the best part! Staff are friendly. It is easy to find and a great place to walk
around.
We love the Fraze!!
We love the Fraze. I have heard that the Fraze's "powers that be" have made it difficult for restaurants at the site of
the former Lincoln Park Grill to succeed. I think this is unfortunate. I don't know the details or the facts of the
matter.
We love the town of Kettering and the Fraze is a wonderful addition to the community. Our 90 year old mom lives
at One Lincoln Park and it is a fun activity for her to walk around the Fraze and listen to the music from her
window. We are willing to pay higher taxes if it means continuing/enhancing this activity for our community. If we
did not have a vacation home in MI we would be taking advantage of what the Fraze has to offer! The only problem
we have experienced has been the traffic and parking on big vent days when we go to see Mom.
We moved to Kettering, from the Cleveland area, three years ago. We have attended only a few programs, one of
the performers was way past his time (Gordon Lightfoot), but Kristin Chenoweth was amazing, I would be happy to
pay for more shows of her quality.
We would like to see healthier menu options, as well as some that are friendly to the food-allergy community.
We would love to see some acts that have performed before, like James Taylor, Michael Buble, Steve Martin,
Fraze is an amazing venue and we are lucky to have it in Kettering!
What a wonderful gift to our community. It is true we do not attend at many concerts as in earlier years, however,
still consider it a huge asset to our lovely City of Kettering!
What affects me the most regarding attending an event is the weather. Unfortunately without protection from the
weather, I normally do not buy tickets prior to an event.
What does income or children have to do with anything?
When a guest at a concert is disruptive I would hope that someone from the Fraze would say or do something.
This was not the case at the Kristen Chenoweth concert. A man one row in front of me was very drunk. Felt it was
disrespectful to the star. Outstanding show, hope she returns.
Where I live I often hear the rehearsals or a little music from a concert, as I go about my day. I also hear High
School band, sports events and the traffic on Far Hills. I enjoy walking through the Park too. I think I live in a great
place. Due to a busy travel, this is the first season I did not attend an event at Fraze. I think The Fraze is one of
the best things in our community.
Why do you need to know my income & age of my child
Why not let people bring a chair & sit outside at least to listen to the music why does everything thing have to be
about money. Some. Folks would enjoy that who can't afford Kettering prices.
Would be nice to have some classical music concerts.
Would like to see more big name artists, maybe 1 a month. Concerts into September and October would be fun!
The weather is great!
Would like to see more concerts geared towards children. <18 crowd
Would like to see more events/concerts in September.
Would like to see some events during September after Holiday at Home. The weather is typically perfect for
outdoor events.
Would love to see more independent artists, including Avett Brothers, Jeff Mangum, Guy Clark, John Prine, Ray
LaMontagne, etc.
Would prefer undercover seating & more comfortable seating.
You guys ran the dining businesses out, you have become control freaks of Lincoln Park not allowing people to
walk around and enjoy the park during Fraze events. What started out as a good thing has become something
entirely different and I despise it. If you guys would lighten up a little and relax things would be better, the uptight
atmosphere is not enjoyable in the least and I have stopped attending events because of this. I can sit on my porch
and listen to the performers and that is good enough for me, I can relax and be comfortable this way. It's really sad
what this has become I hope in the future things change.


I checked that I was dissatisfied with concessions. The food is good and the employees are very polite but all of
the lines are very long and very slow.

I recently moved to Centerville from Kettering . . . 2 weeks ago.

I was at the Resurrection a Journey tribute show in august. I was the one that called you and gave you their info.
The crowd seemed to really enjoy them. I'm glad all went well keep up the good work. I live in Tennessee now but
have always heard about all the great shows there.

Just taking this survey pointed out to me that there are events at the Fraze that I don't know about. So, my request
would be to create regular emails as reminder to what's coming for the week and month ahead. Users, tired of
spam, could request weekly or monthly reminders or opt out entirely. Daily emails never get looked at, in my
opinion, so don't do that. Thanks for listening.

Need to eliminate smoking section. Awful having to walk through the smoke. Even outside still exposed. If people
can't refrain for couple hours then should not come. Liked it so much better when smoke free!!!!!
