Enjoy the Active Life!
Enjoy Recreation & Parks
Relaxing Parks for
Rest and Play!
Parks can be a place to enjoy
a relaxing picnic, play catch
with a friend, enjoy a book in
the fresh air or walk the dogs.
Our parks also offer a chance
to get active! You’ll find lots
of things to do like kayaking
at Fairy Lake, try out one of
our skateparks (Acton and
Georgetown) or just find a
place to stop and smell the
roses. For more information
visit www.haltonhills.ca/parks.
Swimming &
Skating
Looking for a pool during
you’re visit? Why not check
out the Gellert Community
Centre in Georgetown or the
Acton Lion’s Indoor Pool.
Both offer drop-in recreational
swimming throughout the
week. If you prefer ice skating,
the Acton Arena & Community
Centre or the Mold-Masters
SportsPlex in Georgetown
offer recreational skating
during winter months. New
this year, Mold-Masters
SportsPlex offers summer ice!

Explore our Beautiful Trails
Town trails, such as Hungry Hollow (seen above) provide a
convenient opportunity for visitors to park the car and explore
nature. Most trails can even accommodate a stroller or
bicycle! Bring the family and discover over 20 km of trails,
some of which connect to restful parks and gardens. Trail maps
are available at all Town facilities and the Chamber of Commerce,
or online at www.haltonhills.ca/trails.
Make a
Splash!
Our two splash pads
are sure to be a warmweather highlight
for the whole family!
There is no cost to
visit, and pads are
open daily 10am-8pm
from Victoria Day to
Labour Day weekends.
Also look for play
equipment, open park
space and picnic areas
located nearby.

Welcome to Acton
Acton was settled in 1825 by
the Adams brothers. In 1844, the
postmaster suggested the name
Acton, after his hometown in
England. For over 100 years, the
town was dominated by the leather
tanning industry. The nickname,
Leathertown, reflects this heritage.
Heritage buildings along the way:
The Hide House, 49 Eastern Ave.
This massive building was originally
built in 1899 as a warehouse to store
the Beardmore Tannery’s hides.
Shoemaker Funeral Home, 55 Mill St.
E. “Sunderland Villa” was the home
of W.H. Storey, owner of the Storey
Glove Factory.

Welcome to Glen Williams
Glen Williams was originally called
Williamsburg but when the post
office was established in 1852, the
name was changed to Glen Willilams
as there was already a Willamsburg
in Canada. The dominant feature of
Glen Williams is the Credit River as
it snakes it way through the village.
This is only fitting since the industries
that once dominated this village were
founded on the power of the waters
of the Credit.

Eaton worked in Glen

offering antiquarian tomes

store in Toronto. #hhHistory

Glen Williams is a compact little
village founded in 1825. Many of the

dating to the 1840s and 1850s. That
is the charm of this historic setting
and its many businesses which offer
visitors a relaxing, and interesting day
out.

Lucy Maud Montgomery, the
famous Canadian author of Anne of
Green Gables, arrived here with her
Presbyterian husband the Reverend
Ewan MacDonald, and her two sons
in 1926. She penned her books in
the upstairs bedroom of the manse,
facing “Russell’s Hill of Pines.” Norval
also honours Lucy’s birthday with
their annual Montgomery Christmas
in late November.

No matter your fitness or activity
level, you will find a path that suits
you in our beautiful community. For
trails information, and to download
a copy of the municipal trails’ guide,

a copy of the guide from the Halton
Hills Chamber of Commerce.
Cycle the Hills
The spectacular scenery, country
breezes and the pleasure of speed
bring cyclists of all skills and sizes to
Halton Hills. Check out the cycling
routes that take riders along rural
roads to Acton, the historic home of
the tanning industry and Canada’s
largest leather store. The ride ends in
the pretty hamlet of Glen Williams on
the edge of Georgetown. Dismount
for a while to enjoy historic buildings,
antiques and the artisans’ shops in
the Williams Mill.
A second route begins at the pickyour-own farm, Andrews Scenic
Acres and winds through Niagara
Escarpment lands to the Village of
Limehouse. Enter the Conservation
area, through beautiful woodlands
and visit the restored kilns where, in
the 1800’s, limestone was quarried
and then burned to create quicklime
for mortar and cement products.
Continue the journey along 15
Sideroad past lush farmlands and
forests.
Visit Halton.ca/cycling for maps and
additional tours in Halton.
