Discovery at its Finest: The Conran Shop Edit for London Design Festival

This September, The Conran Shop is set to spotlight London as a global capital for design. A hand-picked, curated edit of
extraordinary pieces sourced from around the globe will be showcased in The Conran Shop Chelsea during London Design
Festival. Selected items will also be on display in the Marylebone Store.
The Conran Shop Edit takes inspiration from exploration, forming an interactive in-store design trail that will take visitors on
a journey of discovery. The diverse edit brings together creations by recently discovered talent alongside works by celebrated
designers, with many of the pieces exclusive to The Conran Shop.
The complete curated collection can be viewed in The Conran Shop Chelsea in time for London Design Festival.
Designers featured will include:
Jader Almeida, Brazil
Exclusive to The Conran Shop in the UK and France, Jader Almeida’s
timeless and award-winning modernist designs reflect his deep appreciation
of the finest materials. Working with brass, leather and North American
woods, Almeida began developing his own products in 2004 and has since
established a reputation for himself as one of his country’s most exciting
talents.
Key pieces from Jader Almeida’s collection include the Licce Rocking Chair in
brass with a natural hide leather upholstered seat and oak arms, as well as
the CIGG Side Table made with an adjustable Marquina marble platform, and
sleek brass stem.
Magnus Long, UK
Magnus Long is a British industrial designer based in London, working within
furniture, product and lighting design. A celebrated name in British design,
Long was awarded two Design Guild Mark Awards earlier this year, for
his Stix Dining Table and Cross Leg Lounge Chair, both of which he designed
exclusively for The Conran Shop.
These two Italian made iconic pieces will be exhibited during LDF: the Cross
Leg Lounge Chair crafted from steel and supple leather and the Stix Dining Table,
which features a round marble top upon distinctively interlocked oak legs.
Bartoli Design by Kristalia, Italy
The Hide Chair 1085 Edition by Bartoli Design is intended to evolve through use, altering
in colour, shape and texture. Bartoli is an award-winning family studio founded in 1960
by Carlo Bartoli, who was later joined by his children Anna and Paolo.
The Hide Chair 1085 Edition is crafted from a robust natural hide with leather wrapped
around the steel frame at the back and on the underside, forming two flaps that are
connected by a steel tie-rod.
Made in Italy, the Hide Chair 1085 Edition is exclusive to The Conran Shop.
Italian design manufacturer Kristalia’s innovative Touchscreen Configurator concept
was launched at Salone del Mobile in 2015. The configurator will allow users to select
their preferred colour and finish of Kristalia’s Elephant Chair and other iconic designs,
which will be exclusively in The Conran Shop during LDF and autumn/winter.
Patricia Urquiola, Spain
Internationally renowned designer Patricia Urquiola’s Low Shimmer Table was
launched as part of her acclaimed Shimmer collection at Salone Del Mobile
2015 in Milan.
The tables are crafted in laminated, rounded glass, which reflect iridescent
tones depending on the angle it is viewed from, giving the impression of
transparency and density.
Glen Baghurst, Australia
The Untitled 2015 Armchair is the creation of Glen Baghurst, a new Australian
designer with distinctly Scandinavian influences. This chair uses a distinctive
mix of materials to form a striking silhouette. The Untitled 2015 Armchair is
made from ash timber, with powder-coated steel and soft leather. His chair
is the second in a series exploring the idea of indoor/outdoor furniture.
A prototype of the Untitled 2015 Armchair will be available to view.
Morten Husum Nielsen, Denmark
Morten Husum Nielsen is currently working towards an MA in Furniture
Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He exhibited at the
Stockholm Furniture Fair in 2014 and Salone del Mobile 2015 in Milan.
The idea behind his Dumbo Chair is the double curved membrane, which
creates a flexible, comfortable backrest that plays with proportion and
texture. The Dumbo Chair is an exploration of rattan material and the
development of new objects created through the use of fresh techniques,
inspired by traditional crafts.

Harry Bertoia, Italy
Harry Bertoia is a designer renowned for his versatility, having turned his
hand to jewellery, sculpture and furniture design. The Side Chair was first
designed in 1952 and has been reissued for 2015 by Knoll to posthumously
celebrate Bertoia’s 100th birthday as a special anniversary edition.
His classic sculpted Side Chair is now available with a polypropylene seat and
a chromium-plated steel rod structure. This new edition offers a modern
play on a design icon and is available in a series of colours.
Piet Hein Eek, Netherlands
Eindhoven-based Piet Hein Eek is a multi-disciplinary designer who continually
evolves his practices. Piet Hein Eek’s combination of using unusual materials and
uncommon but simple methods of working, has become his signature style.
Highlights include Hein Eek’s Hand-Folded Pendant Lamps in three variations
crafted from brass or steel, inspired by his interest in punching machines. Another
key product is the novel ceramic Single Template Lamp, which is available in three
colours. The Single Template Lamp is based on the idea of integrating the materials
into one design, reducing the necessary components to a minimum.
Piet Hein Eek’s work is part of the curated edit and is exclusive to The Conran
Shop in the UK.
Garay Studios, Spain
Garay Studios is a Madrid-based practice that was set up in 2012 by Claudia
Garay after graduating from UCL in Lighting Design.
Rings is a series of pendant lights that explores light and colour. Although
colourless when unlit, these pieces riff subtly on different colour palettes.
Three and five ring versions are available as well as a ‘build your own’ option.
Lumio, USA
Lumio founder Max Gunawan spent ten years working as an architect before
setting up his Kickstarter funded design company in San Francisco in 2014.
His playfully designed, collapsible Book Lamp features a laser-cut maple or
dark walnut cover. The interior lamp body contains high-performing LEDs,
inside durable, water-resistant Tyvek ‘pages’. The hand-assembled Book
Lamp takes inspiration from the fanned pages of a wooden backed tome
and allows the user to transform its shape.
The Book Lamp is exclusive to The Conran Shop.
