A NEWSLETTER FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF ORANGE BEACH
“Opening the Orange Beach Golf Center is another step in making Orange Beach the best
place to live, work and play. By year’s end we hope to reopen the golf course with new challenges on the course. Enjoy this addition to our community.” - Steve Russo, Mayor
Mardi Gras = Economic Engine for City of Orange Beach
Krewe’s and Society’s are getting ready all around the region as Mardi Gras is quickly approaching. Parading in
Orange Beach is set for Tuesday, February 28 at 1:30pm from Live Bait to Rite Aid on Perdido Beach Boulevard.
Many organizations have made major improvements to their floats and entries as the event will be larger that ever
with our accommodations at high occupancy this year. The
Mystics of Pleasure parade will
be held on Saturday night, February 25 starting around 5:30
from Ruby Tuesday to SanRoc
Cay on Perdido Beach Boulevard. This is a unique, nighttime lighted parade with lots of
fun, floats, bands and plenty of throws for all ages.
Photos: The Mystics of Pleasure organization presents a check for $7,500 to the City in partnership on Mardi Gras parades and use
of the City floats. Mayor Steve Russo was heard saying “this is one of the most unique presentations I can ever remember”.
Orange Beach Golf Center—Driving Range Opens
The City of Orange Beach is proud to enter the golf market
with the OB Golf Center. The first several weeks of operation at the driving range have proven that there is a need
for such a facility and the feedback is well received. Lunch
duffers are finding out that this is a great place to spend
some time during the day and late nighters can enjoy the
range till 9pm nightly. A bucket of 34 balls is only $3 and
the automated system makes it easy to get
started. If you have always
wanted to learn how to play
golf, this Golf Center will allow
all skill levels to progress. Call
981-GOLF to get more info.
City Supports OBES Professional Development with $25K
The City of Orange Beach made a $25,000.00 donation to the faculty and staff of Orange Beach Elementary School on
Tuesday, January 10, 2006. City Council Member Pete
Blalock and City Administrator Jeff Moon made the presentation to Principal Steve Baker and members of the faculty.
The funds were given in response to professional development proposals submitted by the teachers to Mr. Baker
earlier this year. The donation will cover all the expenses of
the professional development activities that were proposed.
The City generously included additional funds for the teachers to use in their classrooms.

City of Orange Beach Employees should “GO WILD AT THE ZOO”
The City of Orange Beach provided financial support to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo back in April 2005.
This Contract for Services included one FREE individual pass to the Zoo for each employee of the City.
To redeem your FREE pass to the Zoo, show your City photo I.D. or a current pay stub for admission.
This offer is valid through 2006 and we encourage you to take your family on a zoo outing this year in
support of the only zoo on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Since Ivan and then Katrina, the zoo has worked
diligently to reopen and after much hard work and painstaking labor, the animals and staff at the AGC
