this sunday
I want to invite you to a wonderful concert
experience. On Wednesday night, October 12, we will
host a concert of The CenturyMen at 6:00 p.m. in our
Sanctuary. This special event will follow our regular
fellowship meal that begins at 4:45.
October 2, 2011
The CenturyMen is a choir of 100 Ministers of Music
from Baptist churches throughout the country. They are directed by Buryl Red,
a well-known composer of Christian music. (Do you remember the musical
Celebrate Life that he wrote? I sang that when I was in Youth Choir!) Seldom
do you get to hear a choir of this many male voices who are all professional
musicians who join together to sing to the glory of God. Their music is amazing.

When I served as Pastor of First Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN our Minister of
Music, Eugene hattaway, was the President of the CenturyMen. I remember
when they came to our church building for a week and recorded a CD in our
sanctuary. I also remember a powerful concert that they sang for our church
and community.
You have an opportunity to join us for this special concert on October 12. But
better than that, you have a wonderful chance to invite some friends to come
with you to this event. Because of the unique composition of the group and the
rare beauty of their sound, this will be a great chance for you to reach out to
your friends in the community and invite them to come to our church. Let me
suggest that you pick up some of the new Inviter cards that are lying around the
church or some of the brochures about the concert and pass them out to your
friends at work or in your neighborhood.

Timeline Altered on FBC Website
The "timeline" in the historical portion of the church's website, listing significant
developments in FBC's 202-year history, is seldom amended. A short addition heralding
two major developments in 2011 has been added, as follows:
Mid-2011
1. Following vicious April 27 storms that swept the region, killing nine Madison
County persons and leaving widespread devastation, FBC was host to local and national
relief agencies which in two weeks brought more than 37,000 local residents through our
doors in search of storm recovery and assistance.
FAMILY MATTERS
CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY
Gary and Charlene Thompson in the loss of
his mother, Chris and Amy Thompson in the
loss of his grandmother, Andrew, Jacob and
Katie Thompson in the loss of their greatgrandmother, Eula Thompson
2. In August the church entered upon an extensive building/renovation project,
costing $9,356,500, which will provide, mainly, greatly improved and expanded facilities
for the contemporary worship services as well as for youth programs, and will concurrently
join the two main structures into one.
