KEARNEY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL
FOUNDATION
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN CASE STATEMENT
A LETTER FROM THE BISHOP
Dear friends of Kearney Catholic High School,
I want you to know how encouraged I am to see that you are again
Moving Forward in Faith with this new campaign for Kearney Catholic High
School. I have been so inspired by the vitality of the Church in Kearney in the
short time that I have been here. A great sign of that vitality is the growth you
are experiencing at Kearney Catholic. Investing in the faith formation of every
generation has been an important part of the Church’s mission. Having adequate
space to carry out the apostolate of Catholic education is essential. The financial
sacrifices to support Kearney Catholic High School and the KCHS Foundation
are a great witness of your strength of character as a faith community. Your
dedication and commitment to your parish projects and to this campaign
engenders pride in my heart for the type of stewards of God’s gifts that you have
become. May the Lord bless your efforts and be assured of my prayers for all that
you are undertaking.
God Bless,
Bishop Hanefeldt
Most Reverend Joseph G. Hanefeldt
Bishop of Diocese of Grand Island
As both an alumnus of Kearney Catholic and parent of a current
KCHS student, Laura and I know firsthand the positive impact
this school can have on the lives of its students. The teachers,
administrators, coaches, students, and families associated with
Kearney Catholic are what makes it such a special place, and
what has driven its growth. In order to accommodate the increased
enrollment, while offering the same great environment for our
students to learn and grow, it is imperative that we continue to
invest in the school itself. Please join us in supporting the next
phase of the Moving Forward in Faith campaign.

A LETTER FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR
Friends of Kearney Catholic,
Fifty-six years ago when Kearney Catholic was founded, Monsignor Miles expressed
with great conviction the great need for a Catholic secondary school in Kearney,
Nebraska. Monsignor Miles understood the critical need for students of this age to
have daily exposure to the tenants of Catholic/Christian teachings. And, that this
exposure take place in an environment where these ideals would have the opportunity
to blossom, be practiced and strengthened. Knowing that the critical need that
Monsignor Miles identified 56 years ago has increased exponentially, the opportunity
to obtain a faith-based education has become even more of a necessity.
Please consider a gift to allow Monsignor Miles’ dream to continue to flourish and
grow. Please consider a gift so that more students are afforded the opportunity to
be educated in a Catholic/Christian environment. Please consider a gift to help
perpetuate the passing on of the Catholic/Christian ideals and tenants.
I thank you all for your generosity in giving your time, talent, support and treasure.
Please be assured that your endless generosity is making a positive difference in the
lives of these young adults, creating future “Stars” who can serve as guideposts for
others to follow.

Kearney Catholic is an important organization to both the Kearney
community and our family. It brings a unique educational experience to our
family incorporating our faith and values within the educational sciences.
Kearney Catholic is welcoming to all, creating a strong atmosphere of
family. We feel confident knowing our children have a place to grow both
spiritually and academically.
Please join us in supporting Kearney Catholic by pledging a gift the
Moving Forward in Faith campaign. Your gift will allow future families
the opportunity to share in what our family feels so blessed to be a part.
Your gift will allow future families to benefit from what has been such a
blessing to our family.
A TRADITION OF GIVING
The Moving Forward in Faith campaign launched in 2012 after a
collaborative planning process led by the Kearney Catholic High
School Foundation Board, school board, and pastors/lay leaders of
St. James and Prince of Peace.
Kearney Catholic has received over $2.1 million in pledges and
gifts to the campaign, which resulted in retiring $1.28 million in
outstanding debt from previous building projects and building two
new science classrooms, opened in the 2013-2014 school year. This
was made possible by the leadership and generosity of our business
community, parents, alumni and friends.
2015 HIGHLIGHTS
•Record enrollment for the 2015-2016
academic year with 365 students grade 6-12.
•Student body is 72 percent Catholic, and
28 percent non-Catholic.
•KCHS’s 2015 ACT average was 23.6
compared to the state average of 21.5.
•Over 80 percent of KCHS 2015 graduates
matriculate to four-year colleges.
•A full 93 percent of KCHS students
participate in an extracurricular activity.
•The mock trial team made it to the state
tournament for the first time in school
history.
•Marching band received superior mark at
state marching contest.
•The one-act play was named runner-up at
the district competition.
•KCHS’s student body won Class C1 state
tournament sportsmanship award.
•Volleyball team won Class C1 state title.
With our improved financial position and upgraded facilities, we
are already seeing returns on these investments with another record
enrollment of 365 students in the 2015-16 school year. Our students
are excelling in the classroom, on the playing field, on stage and in
the community. The additions to the school have helped to ensure
the faith formation of our young people, which will have a far
reaching and positive impact on our community.
PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
Incredible growth, excellence in and out of the classroom, and the
development of wonderful young people in our community have
resulted in the need for additional space to continue our mission at
Kearney Catholic. This is truly a great problem to have.
To address the current and future needs of Kearney Catholic, school,
church and community leaders began discussions in 2015. Many
of the challenges discussed stem from the enrollment growth seen
in the last few years. With this new growth, leaders want to ensure
that students are able to continue receiving the quality education
expected of Kearney Catholic while remaining fiscally responsible.
The group worked to formulate a plan to address the school’s
current and future needs. It was decided that an extension of the
Moving Forward in Faith campaign was the most responsible way
to move forward with the proposed plan. The campaign will create
a larger learning environment for students and teachers enabling
Kearney Catholic to continue welcoming students and families
seeking a strong faith based education.
CAMPAIGN COMPONENTS
Space is at a premium. With the growth in enrollment, we are in urgent need of additional classrooms.
Our front entrance, library, and administrative spaces have not changed since the school opened in 1961
and are in need of renovation. We also have infrastructure projects that need to be addressed as a result
of our expansion and age of our original facilities.
In response, we are launching our $2.5 million Moving Forward in Faith campaign to support the
extraordinary growth of Kearney Catholic High School. You will find that each of the projects will
enhance the learning environment of our students providing them with every opportunity for success
both in and out of the classroom.
Six new classrooms - $920,000
Additional parking - $220,000
The six new classrooms will be added on the north side of the
building, for a total of 6,600 square feet. The school would
net four adequate sized classrooms for an enhanced learning
environment for current and future Kearney Catholic students.
Parking is limited. As enrollment and event attendance
numbers increase, there will be a need for additional parking.
Improved energy efficiency - $130,000
The school’s boiler heating system is the original system
from 1961. Installing a new high efficiency heating system
will increase comfort, improve energy use, and decrease
utility bills. Furthermore installation will be easier before
construction takes place on the north side of the building.
Front entrance, front office, counselor office and
library renovations - $904,000
This expansion and renovation project was an objective of the
first phase of the Moving Forward in Faith campaign. With
$400,000 in pledges set aside from the first phase, an additional
$904,000 will be needed for its completion. This renovation,
with a 4,800 square foot expansion and a 4,730 square foot
remodel, will be an attractive and functional gateway to the
school. The whole project will provide wonderful
aesthetics that will match the educational
excellence that is part of the school’s mission.
New chapel
The chapel will add a much needed space within the school
for student reflection. A space occupied currently as a small
classroom will become the home of the school’s chapel.
The faith formation of our students is already a
strong part of our mission and this new chapel will
only strengthen those opportunities.

Kearney Catholic Student
Class of 2018
The question has been posed,
“What makes Kearney Catholic special?” The answer can be
summed up with one word, PEOPLE. This word, PEOPLE, refers
first and foremost to the parents and students followed by all
the others who make Kearney Catholic a reality: bishops, priests,
teachers, staff, friends, family and all the others who are deeply
committed to Kearney Catholic. Physicists are always in search
of the “single unifying force,” Kearney Catholic derives its real
strength from a “unifying force,” the Catholic faith. The Catholic
faith serves as the umbrella under which all these PEOPLE gather
and become family. The Kearney Catholic family is committed to
the common goal that is defined by Catholic/Christian principles.
This all-inclusive, focused, deep commitment is indeed special.

Kearney Catholic Student
Class of 2017
I have heard it said many times, “Kearney
Catholic is one big family.” This could not
be more true. Not only do upperclassmen
support the underclassmen and middle
school students, but they work hard to
better the school and community in which
they learn and live. The small class sizes
allow students to form relationships
with teachers, relationships that may be
difficult to form in a larger school. Every
teacher knows each of their students
personally and is focused on providing
each student a strong education. Families
support Kearney Catholic in many ways
helping to create an environment that
promotes excellence. The community
atmosphere at the many events held
throughout the year is evidence of this
support and makes me proud to be a part
of the Kearney Catholic family.
Although I could list hundreds of things
I love about going to school at Kearney
Catholic, there are three that first come
to mind. First, Kearney Catholic has a
family-like atmosphere. You feel supported
and encouraged by both teachers and
classmates. Second, Kearney Catholic
provides students with a high level of
academic challenge and rigor. You know
that at the end of the day you are being
prepared to move on to the next phase in
your education. Lastly, Kearney Catholic
provides students many opportunities
to create a well-rounded high school
experience both in and out of the
classroom. Kearney Catholic High School
is a wonderful institution and I am proud
to call myself a Kearney Catholic Star.
WE NEED YOU!
The needs of Kearney Catholic are urgent, and our continued progress will
rely on the leadership and generosity of our community, parents, alumni
and friends. The Moving Forward in Faith campaign will position the school
for an even brighter future. Our supporters have played a large role in the
successes of Kearney Catholic. We hope that you will strongly consider
supporting this campaign with a gift.
WAYS TO GIVE
Gifts made by cash or check are the most common and will allow Kearney Catholic to address its
immediate needs. However, while the needs are urgent, we will gratefully accept gifts in various forms,
including the following:
Securities
Corporate matching gifts
Real estate
BUDGETING YOUR GIFT
Charitable gifts of stocks, bonds or mutual funds that
have appreciated offer special tax advantages and can
be a great way to provide a significant gift to KCHS.
For those friends and supporters who have appreciated
real estate or farmland, a gift of this type of asset could
provide significant tax savings to you, while at the
same time supporting the KCHS Foundation with a
significant gift.
Life insurance
You can donate an old policy by simply naming
Kearney Catholic High School Foundation as the
owner and beneficiary. Or you can consider donating
a new policy.
Bequest or charitable trusts
You can name the KCHS Foundation as a beneficiary
in your will or living trust. There are also wonderful
planning ideas involving charitable trusts that pay
you money during your life, then make a gift to the
foundation after your death.
Retirement plans
You can name the KCHS Foundation as a primary
or contingent beneficiary of your IRA, 401k or
other retirement accounts. Our donors 70.5 years
or older can now make a tax-free gift from their IRA.
Your retirement account administrator can help you
designate Kearney Catholic as a beneficiary.
A matching gift program provided through your employer may
allow you to increase the value of your gift. Many companies match
charitable gifts made by their employees, retirees or board members.
We are asking for three-year pledges to the campaign. We encourage
our friends and supporters to consider a 10 percent to 20 percent initial
gift to provide immediate assistance to the KCHS Foundation and
Kearney Catholic High School. The following chart is a guide to assist
you when budgeting your gift over the three year pledge period.
