I would like to welcome everyone to help us celebrate National Assisted Living Week, September 7th thru 13th! This year’s
theme is “The Magic of Music”.
We have many fun festivities all
week long so please join us!
Great news!!! Glenwood Place has hired a new Health Care Coordinator and also a part-time RN to help on evenings and weekends. That
means that yes, Glenwood Place will have a nurse here every day of the
week. Many of our residents have met with Jeanette Perdue our part
time RN as she has been working since July 29th week nights and weekends. She comes with 29 years of experience and many of them with
Iowa River Hospice and MMSC. Toni Lebo joined our team on August
24th and we are so very excited for both of these talented women to be a
part of our Glenwood Place team. Please be sure to stop by and introduce yourself to them.
As always, my door is always open, please stop by anytime or make an
appointment, I am always available.
Pamela.

First impressions can be deal breakers! We try very hard to create a
warm atmosphere for our residents, family, friends, visitors, and
staff. If you notice something that needs to be cleaned or there’s an
odor that needs to be neutralized, please let us know as soon as
possible so that we may handle the situation appropriately. Accidents happen, that’s okay. Simply press your pendant, and our caring staff will assist you and discretely dispose of or wash items immediately. Let us help you maintain your independence and dignity;
that is why we are here! Remember, we didn’t win Best of the Best
Assisted Living in 2014, YOU DID!!

I would like to take this time to thank all of you here at Glenwood Place for your thoughts and prayers for
mom, Lois Mason. She loved calling Glenwood Place home and all of you her friends. Also thanks for your
understanding as I took time away to be with her. My thanks go to Pamela and the staff for filling in for me
while I spent the time with Lois. God Bless you all! ~ Janet
Glenwood Place Red Hatters
Wednesday August 20. We sent our condolences to Queen Mother Janet Mason and her family on the loss of her mother-in-law and Red
Hatter Lois Mason. Eight members were present as Carol Bristley was substitute leader. The tables were decorated with cupcakes and 3
Musketeer Bars (in memory of Lois who always gave them to those who visited!) The theme for our program was School Days. Two of us
went to country school, the rest in town. We got to school by walking, riding a horse or riding a bus. There were some who lived in Marshalltonw, one is Missouri and others in various Iowa locations. It was an enjoyable afternoon of reminiscing. ~Jody
Meet our Residents...David Fagle
I was born in Cedar Rapids September 23,1931. I went to seven elementary schools while living in the
same house, we were right on the boarder line of schools. I worked after school in tree nursery, the Quaker
Oats the Rapid Chevrolet as a car jockey. I bought a car when I was a jr in high school, a sweet little Model A. After working a year I went to college at Iowa State Teachers College. After a year of school I got
activated in the National Guard where I had an MOS of cook. After 19 months of service I got an early
out to go back to college on the GI bill. I graduated in 2 2/4 years and decided to stay for my masters, it
was now the State College of Iowa. My first job as an educator was at UNI in the science department. I
taught in Knoxville after that. I had received a bachelors and masters in science before I went out to teach.
I then moved to Marshalltown. I started teaching biology and nurses support classes and lots of college
science classes. I got married before I went to the service, a beautiful nurse from St Luke’s Hospital. In ensuing years I went to college University of Iowa, ISU, Colorado University, Indiana University, University of Maryland, Oklahoma University, and University of California. I spent 36 years teaching in Marshalltown and in 1990 to UNI and taught there 5 years. I lost
my wife in 1997. We had a wonderful marriage, I treated her well. She got a gift every month on the anniversary of our marriage. I
enjoy living at Glenwood Place very much, it is first class all the way. Life has been good, each day is an experience!
Life Enrichment with Kayla
Like mother, like daughter. I really enjoy
my time with everyone at Glenwood Place,
and my family knows it. When it came time
for my daughter Kelsey to finish up maternity leave and decide on her employment
she talked with Pamela about joining the
Glenwood Place staff. She is now a Universal Worker in the Gardens. Is it hard working with my daughter? Not at all, we each
have our own thing to do. But what I do
enjoy is when my grandson stops by...what
a little doll!
In September we celebrate National Assisted Living month. We will celebrate the
Magic of Music. There is lots of entertainment planned, a musical twist on Bingo.
Doug Jebsen from Live 2B Healthy be here
one evening to tell all residents and families
about the fitness program. There will also
be a short fitness session! We want everyone to join us ANYTIME, life at Glenwood
Place is not a secret, it’s meant to be
shared!

Glenwood Place said good-bye to Lois Mason on August 17. Lois could often be
seen at various locations around the community working word puzzles or visiting
with others. She was almost always there to join us for bingo and maybe not participate but watch many other activities. And every Monday morning I could look
forward to what I came to call the Monday Morning Worship Review, the discussion of the worship service the day before. Lois was such a wonderful example of
love and devotion to God and her family. She will be truly missed by all. ~Kayla
