A Message from the Mayor
Dear Lynbrook Neighbor,
First I hope you all had a very happy, healthy, and safe summer. I want to thank and compliment Patrick McDermott for
another wonderful and exciting season at our Lynbrook Pool.
Our Recreation center is second to none, and our pool is the
very best! Many new and exciting things are happening in our
great Village and I am thrilled to be sharing the news with
you.
The lease signing is imminent for the MTA properties on
Atlantic Avenue and we look forward to new store owners
bringing in a new, vibrant dimension to our Atlantic Avenue.
This is another step forward to continue revitalization and
enhancement of our flourishing downtown. Our Building
Superintendent Brian Stanton will be expediting all approvals
necessary in order to assure storefront renovations are
propelled forward in a timely fashion. I want to personally
thank State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, New York
State Assemblyman Brian Curran, and especially Helena
Williams, President of the MTA/ Long Island Railroad for their
tireless efforts in finally making this dream a reality!
Lynbrook USA is truly Open For Business!
I want to thank and applaud my Board. Working together, we
have once again achieved the best Bond Rating, AA, in
Lynbrook's History! Working with
Deputy Mayor Alan Beach, Trustee
Hilary Becker, Trustee Michael
Hawxhurst, and Trustee Thomas
Atkinson, we were awarded the
prestigious AA Bond Rating from
Moody's. It is more significant for
us this year as the slow economic
recovery contributed to Moody's
having to downgrade other
municipalities. Our stellar money
management, sound fiscally balanced blend of adequate
reserves, expense control, and reserve growth were all
favorable factors that impressed Moody's. I also would like to
thank our Village Administrator John Giordano for his hard
work, dedication and contributions towards our celebrated
AA bond rating.
There is more to do, and much more to come, so stay tuned.
Our Village is thriving, and together, we will continue to be
one of the best South Shore Villages on Long Island!
All the Best,
Bill Hendrick
Mayor William J. Hendrick

Lynbrook USA First Park in NYS to be named after
Girl Scout Founder, Juliette Gordon Low
On Sunday, March 11th, the Village of Lynbrook was proud to be the home
of the first park in the State of New York that was named after Juliette
Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts).
Girl Scout Troop #2237, under the leadership of Carol Hansen, planted trees
at the park between Huntington Avenue and Windsor Place. This helped the
Troop complete their “Breathe Journey”. It is a small corner park located in
the Incorporated Village of Lynbrook. At the time, the park was unnamed
and the Troop suggested the idea of having the park named after Juliette
Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts USA. On March 12th, Girl Scouts
USA celebrated their 100th anniversary.
Lynbrook Mayor William J. Hendrick said, “I am honored to be the first
elected official in New York State to name a park after Juliette Gordon Low.
Her foresight was an excellent example to girls everywhere.” Hendrick went
on to say Sunday, March 11th was a tremendous day for everyone.
Lynbrook Community Chest/ Mayor's Golf Outing
The Mayors Golf Outing was held on Monday May 14th at the
Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor. This years annual event was
co-sponsored by the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce and
proceeds are to benefit the Lynbrook Community Chest. This
charitable organization’s entire purpose is to provide assistance
to residents of the Lynbrook community who are in need of help
due to financial or economic hardships. Mayor Hendrick
thanked everyone for the outpouring of support on behalf of
Lynbrook's Community Chest. Trustee Michael Hawxhurst
added, "This event personifies community spirit and a Village
coming together on behalf of one another, I am proud to be part
of our Lynbrook USA Family!"

Lynbrook’s 2012 Time Capsule Presentation
As part of the Lynbrook Centennial celebration, the three elementary
schools in the Lynbrook School District participated in a time
capsule project.
Rhonda Glickman, an editor from the Herald, extended the invitation
to join in the centennial celebration.
Staff members in each of the elementary schools agreed that a time
capsule would be a meaningful way to involve their students in the
Centennial celebration. Each school took a different path. Waverly
Park School created a timeline, covering events and subject material
of interest to students in current times. West End School students
performed and recorded a song about Lynbrook written by their
chorus teacher. The song was recorded on a CD and was placed in
the capsule. Students in the Marion Street School developed a list of
“One Hundred Reasons They Love Lynbrook”. The time capsule was
buried at Village Hall and will be unearthed fifty years from now.
PRESENTING THE TIME CAPSULE AT THE
BOARD MEETING WERE REPRESENTATIVES FROM
EACH OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS:

were selected for their demonstrated commitment to their
communities and their leadership abilities. “Young people like
these recipients are what our state needs,” explained Assemblyman
Curran. “With this award, I want to encourage a higher level of
thinking that wakes up the imagination of our young adults, so
that when they continue their education and eventually get out
into the world, they will hold a special regard for public service,
and consider how they can contribute their own unique talents
and energies toward making the world a better place. Maggie
