Welcome to the 2016 Summer Academy! Powell Recreation District is proud to
partner with Park Co School Dist #1 in offering the Academy and we’d like to express
our sincere gratitude to PCSD #1 for their support and assistance. Look over our
great class offerings. Grades are based on the upcoming 2016 - 17 school year.

Arts & Crafts: Get Your creative juices
going with fun projects. We’ll provide the
materials and you can show off your artistic flair.
If You Give A Moose...(cooking): Come
cook and play games based on Laura Numeroff’s books. We’ll give a moose a muffin, a cat a cookie and other fun and sweet
treats.
Little Hoopers: Designed to
teach the basic fundamentals
of basketball and give young
players
an early headstart to
their basketball experience.
Learn the
basic skills of dribbling, passing and shooting through fun
and exciting games and activities.
Kids’ Martial Arts: This is a great
way to try out the world of
martial arts. Instructors from
Lone Wolf Taekwondo and others
will teach you the basic fundamentals. You’ll get a kick out of it!
Outdoor Games: Get ready for
some great backyard fun! Outdoor
lawn
gamesinclude Blongo Ball, Bocce, Badmitton,
Baggo, Pillo Hockey, Croquet, Horseshoes,
and Topple Ball. Fun, Fun, Fun!!!

Gardening and Bugs: Come dig and
plant with us. We’ll learn how to make
a garden, plant seeds and even design
homes for your plants. We’ll check out the
creepy, crawly creatures that live in and
eat plants. Wear your grubby clothes and
bring your GREEN THUMB!
Treasure Hunt: Every day, new clues and
treasure to be found. We’ll make a treasure box and fill it with loot! Lots of running, hunting, and digging. We’ve got the
shovels - come help us search!
SNAG Golf: Starting New At Golf. This
is all about teaching golf in a totally new
and fun environment by using colorful,
giant headed clubs and oversized golf
balls. It’s a tremendous way to introduce
the game to new and young players.

Join us as we explore the world
of the Hungry Caterpillar, Lonely Firefly, Busy Spider and
more. Read, draw, paint
and create creatures based
on the world of Eric Carle.
Bike Stars: It’s all about bikes. The bike
rodeo and obstacle course will be a blast.
Learn some cool tricks on
decorating your bike. Bike
safely will be covered as
well as basic care and
maintenance tips.

Outdoor Games: Get ready for some great
backyard fun! Outdoor lawn games include

will stir your creative juices as you sculpt
and design beautiful works of art. Pottery I
will cover the basics and is a prerequisite
for Pottery II. Come play in the mud!
Bowling: Learn the fundamentals
of bowling. Funfor beginners, interm-diate and hot shots who just
need to improve their game. Learn
how to score, knock down a strike, or
pick up a spare.
Scrapbooking: Lots of hands on time
to update your scrapbook. Be sure to
bring an album and pictures. We’ll also
learn some new ways to use scrapbooking supplies.
Geocaching: A real world outdoor hide
and seek treasure hunting game exploring in search of hidden treasure and adventure using GPS enabled devices. Bring
your bike and helmet!
Cupcake Wars: Inspire your

Blast Off: It’s a week of building and launching bottle rockets and bottle air planes using
water and air pressure to launch the rockets upwards of 300 feet and reaching 70-90
MPH. You will be building and constructing
bottle rockets, bottle air planes and a kite,
then you will put your design to the test.
Fashion and Design: You look fabulous,
darling! During this week you’ll learn
about hair design, fashion, & even design
your own outfits. It will build up to a Fashion Show the last day.
Creators Club: Spend your mornings at
the MakerSpace. Build and print 3D models, design creations with the laser engraver and program robots using colored
pens, just to name a few. New tools and
creations every day.
Sewing: Come and learn to sew! This is
a great class to introduce sewing to the
beginner and those with a little experience. There will be many fun projects
you’ll get to show off at home!

Safe Sitter Training (Tue - Fri only):
Babysitting is important business and
Safe Sitter can teach you the skills to do it
well! Becoming a Safe Sitter means you’ll
gain confidence and learn how to handle
situations that may happen on the job…
knowledge you’ll use forever! Brought to
you by the experts at PVHC!

solving mazes and working with robots.
Start by building & decorating a robot, then
teach it to solv its way out of a maze. Create
and take home a maze creation eacj day.
Plugged/Unplugged: Create interactive
games, stories, and art through the power
of coding. Explore through plugged and unplugged activities at the Makerspace.
Maze Mania: This one is GIRLS ONLY! Learn
robotics, animal science, programming and
engineering. Students will design a maze for
competition between the rat, robot and Rube
Goldberg machine. Fee: $30
