আমােদর িহমাংদা আর নই। উিন মহােরােগর সে আাণ যু কের গত ১৭ই সের িবেকল সােড় পাঁচটা
নাগাদ ইহজগেতর সম& মায়া ত(াগ কের শষ িনঃ,াস ফেলেছন। হ(াঁ – আমরা ডঃ িহমাং ভ2াচােয3(র কথা
বলিছ। বিলজ অব িনউ ইংল(াে6র ও বাসীর ঠা:েরর মূিত3 র সামেন বেস এবং দাঁিড়েয় থাকা এক পিরিচত
দীঘ3েদহী >?েকশ একিন@ পূজারীেক আমরা বAিদন ধের দেখ অভ(& হেয় িগেয়িছলাম। দীঘ3 চিDশ বছেরর উপর
উিন অEিনত অনু@ােন িব সংFৃ ত মেH পৗিরিহত( কের এেসেছন – সটা দূগা3 , সর>তী, লKী বা নারায়ণ
পূজাই হাক, অথবা উপনয়ন, িববাহ, অLাশন, হােত-খিড়ই হাক। আমােদর সৗভাগ( য ওনার পৗরিহেত(র
উNরািধকার উিন পরবতO জেPর দু-এক জেনর মেধ( িব&ার কের যেত পেরেছন। বQেনর অেনক বাঙািলরই

কের কানাডার :ইেবেক পািড় জমান। সখান থেক ১৯৬৯ সােল MIT ত যাগদান কেরন। সখান থেক Raytheon এ িসিনয়র ইেলক]িনX ইি^নীয়র িহসােব যাগদান করার পর একািধক প(ােটে_র অিধকারী হেয়িছেলন। সই
১৯৬৯ থেক বQেন ওনার যা`া a। িহমাংদাই ১৯৭১ সােল বQেনর বাংলা সিমিত “বাসী”র নামV &াব
কেরিছেলন। জীবেনর শষ িদন পয3d িতিন “বিলজ অব িনউ ইংল(া6” এর সম& কায3নালীর সে অিত
ঘিন@ভােব যুU িছেলন। মৃতু(কােল উিন তাঁর আজীবেনর সহধিম3নী আমােদর িয় দীপািদ, একমা` ছেল , তার
eী , নািত ও নাতিন রেখ গেছন। আমরা সবাই ওনার সমZ পিরবারবগ3েক আমােদর আdিরক সমেবদনা জানাই

বছর। এই মতেভেদর মেধ9 না িগেয় িবিভX তথ9-2মােণর িভিYেত আিম মেন কির ,য, ঋেLেদর বয়স আনু মািনক ৫,০০০ বছর।

কাকার বািড়েত থেক কলকাতায় পড়ােনা কির তখন। বািড়র পম িদেকর ঘের একটা ববালকিন
িছল। অেনক সময় বেস থাকতাম ওখােন। বািড়র সামেন আর এক%ট বািড়। দু’%ট বািড়র মেধ ববধান কবল
এক%ট রা'া। ঐ বািড়েতও একটা বালকিন িছল। আমােদর বািড়র বালকিনেত একিদন বেস িছলাম। হঠাৎ
দখলাম সামেনর বালকিনেত একজন ত+ণী দাঁিড়েয় আেছ। এক মূহ0েত1 িচনেত পারলাম ওেখ। বই খাতা িনেয়
4ােস যাবার জেন 6াম 7েপ দাঁিড়েয় থাকেত দেখিছ। মেন হেয় িছল ও তখন কেলেজ পেড়। ইউিনভািস%টেত

পৗ:ছেত এখনও দরী আেছ। ওর চহারা এমন য একবার দখেল আবার দখেত ইে; কের।
ওর মুখ পির<ার দখেত পা;। দৃ%> িবিনমেয়র আশায় ওর িদেক তািকেয় থাকলাম িকছ0@ণ।
িকন্ত0 িকছ0 লাভ হ’ল না। ও রা'ার িদেক তািকেয় রইল। এটা এমন িকছ0 নয়। তবুও ওর উেপ@াটা ভাল
লাগলনা। পেরর িদন আবার বালকিনেত দাঁিড়েয় থাকলাম িকছ0@ণ। িকC ওর দখা পলামনা। এই ভােব অেনক
িদন দাঁিড়েয় থেকিছ। ওেখ দখেতও পেয়িছ মােঝ মােঝ িকC ওর িদক থেক কানও পিরবত1ণ হয়িন। মেন
মেন ভাবলাহ আিম এক সাধারণ লাক। আমার কানও পিরিচিত নই। পিরিচত হেত গেল িনেজেক কাশ
করেত হেব। আিম মEী নই। দশেমী নই। উFতায় পাঁচ ফুট পাঁচ ইH। গােয়র রঙ বড় জার উJল
শামবণ।1 তাই িচKতারকা নই। মাহন বাগান ফুটবল %টেমর সLার ফরয়াড়1 নই। আমার আMকাশ করার
সব পথ বN।`

কাকার বািড়র কােছ ‘ উদয়ণ ’ পKকার অিফস। য দু’ক%ট কিবতা িলেখিছ তা িনেয়
সSাদেকর সেT দখা করলাম। উিন বলেলন য কিবতাRিল খুর ভাল অথাৎ

ওর উেপ@াটােক কW কের ওর উপর মাহXY হেয় পেড়িছ। সাধারণ লােকর ত0 লনায়
আমার Yান য অেনক উপের তা আিম িতZা করেত চাই। হঠাৎ মেন হ’ল য একটা সুেযাগ আসেত পাের।
ওেদর বািড়র পােশর বািড়েত িত বছর সর[তী পূজা হয়। তখন Yানীয় ছেল মেয় িনেয় গান বালনা আবৃি\
িদেয় এক%ট ছাট জলসার ববYা করা হয়। এ সুেযাগ আিম ছেড় দব কমন কের? আিম %ঠক করলাম ঐ
িদেনর অনুZােন আমার লখা এক%ট কিবতা আবৃি\ করব। 4ােবর কতৃপ
1 @ থেক অনুমিত চেয় িনলাম।
পূজা আসেত িকছ0 িদন বাকী আেছ। দু’ক%ট য কিবতা িলেখিছ তার মেধ কান কিবতা%ট
পড়ব তা %ঠক করেত পািরনা। সব শেষ %ঠক করলাম য কিবতােত পৃিথবীর ]প বণনা
1 কের িলেখিছ সই
কিবতা%ট পড়ব।
%ঠক িদেন আিম পূজাম^েপ িগেয় পৗ:ছলাম। দখলাম হল ঘর এেকবাের ভিত1’। িতমার সামেন য চয়ারRিল
আেছ সখােন Yান নই। বাধ হেয় দয়ােলর কােছ দাঁিড়েয়_ থাকলাম। সNারিত শষ হেয়েছ। এখন অনুZােনর
স্ত0িত চেলেছ। হঠাৎ দখলাম যার কােছ আিম িনেজেক িতZা করার জেন পাগল হেয় উেঠিছ আর য এখন
আমার মানস কনা স সামেনর সািরেত বেস আেছ। অন িকছ0 না ভেব য কিবতা আবৃি\ করেত এেসিছ তা
মেন মেন আব্রৃি\ করেত লাগলাম। িতনজন িশ`ীর গােনর পের আমার ডাক পড়ল। আিম মাইbফেনর
সামেন সই দাঁিড়েয়িছ। এমন সময় হ’ল এক িবপযয়।
1 লাডেশিডং হেয় সব আেলা িনেভ গল। আিম আবৃি\
করার য সুেযাগ আজ পেয়িছলাম তা চ0র মার হেয় গল। কলকাতায় লাডেশিডং আরQ হেল শষ হেত চায়
না। [;াকমdরা ছাটা ছ0%ট কের বাইের থেক অেনকRিল দীপ িনেয় এেস eািলেয় িদল। [;াকমীেদর মেধ
আেছ আমার মানস কনাও। অন একজন [;াকমd আমার মানস কনেক “ তWা ” বেল ডাকল। ওর নাম
আজ আিম থম জানেত পারলাম।
--- ৩ --সিদন রােK ভেব দখলাম য আিম যা চাই তা আমােক পেতই হেব। আিম যখন ওর
নাম জানেত পেরিছ তখন আমার লখা কিবতা ওেখ ডাকেযােগ পাঠােল কমন হয়? িকC তা কমন কের
সQব? কবল নাম িলেখ িকছ0 পাঠাব িক কের? িকC একিদন পথ খুেল গল। আমােদর মল বেg একিদন
একটা পা> কাড1 এেস পৗ:ছল। িবেদশ থেক কউ পা%ঠেয়েছ। %ঠকানােত লখা আেছ “ তWা রায়। ” তারপের
রা'ার নাম। বুঝেত পারলাম িপওন ভ0ল কের আমােদর মল বেg কাড1 রেখ গেছ। আর দরী নয়। আমার
লখা কিবতা এক%ট এক%ট কের ওেখ পাঠােত আরQ করলাম। অবশ আমার নাম আর %ঠকানা জানােত ভ0ল কির
না। এই ভােব িকছ0িদন চেল গল। িকC ওর কাছ থেক উ\র পাই না। আমার hনরাশ আমার কিবতা লখার
উiীপনােক Xাস কেরেছ তখন। এখন িক করেত পাির ভেব পাইনা।
------ ৪ --একিদন বসার ঘের বেস িছলাম। দরজায় মৃদু করাঘাত েন দরজা খুেল িদলাম। দখলাম
একজন ত+ণী দাঁিড়েয় আেছ। ঘেরর ভতের ঢ0কবার অনুমিত চায়। দরজা খুেল িদেয় বললাম---“ ভতের
আসুন। ” ত+ণী িতবাদ কের বলল---“না,না আমােক আপিন বলেবন না।” আিম জেlস করলাম--“কন?” ত+ণী বলল---“ সাধারণ লােকর ত0 লনায় আপনার Yান অেনক উপের। সই জেন।” আিম মুm
হেয় গলাম। এই ধরেণর কথা নবার জেন আিম এতিদন চ>া কের চেলিছ। ত+ণীেক বসেত বললাম। ও
িনেজই বলল ওর নাম “ছnা।” মেন পড়ল সর[তী পূজার িদন ছnাও একজন [;াকমd িছ’ল। ছnা বলল--“ সিদন আলনার আবৃি\ নবার অেপ@ায় িছলাম। িকC লাডেশিডং হেয় তা আর হ’লনা” আিম জেlস
করলাম---“আমার আবৃি\ ত0 িম কখনও েনছ?” ছnা বলল---“না, স সুেযাগ পাইিন। তেব আপনার লখা
সব কিবতা আিম পেড়িছ।“ এই কথা বেল ছnা টিবেলর উপর এক%ট এক%ট কের কাগজ রেখ বলল---“ এই
তা আপনার লখা সব কিবতা।” আিম অবাক হেয় দখলাম য এই কিবতাRিল আিম তWােক পা%ঠেয় িছলাম।
যিদও কানও উ\র পাইিন। ছnার কাছ থেক আরও শংসা নবার জেন আমার মন কাঙাল হেয় গেছ। য
কিবতা আিম তWােক পা%ঠেয়িছ তা ছnার কােছ িক কের পৗ:ছল স o না কের আিম জেlস করলাম---“

Every year, with the arrival of Fall, Bengalees of New England celebrate Durga Puja with days filled with fun,
and enjoyment. This year we will be presenting a blazing ensemble of artists - Mahalaxmi Iyer and Raghab
Chatterjee. On Saturday evening Mahalaxmi Iyer will be regaling us with her enchanting voice accompanied
by Ameer Ali and her troupe of musicians. On Sunday, Raghab will be mesmerizing us with his melodious
voice. Along with them, we will see our talented teams of New England artists and performers, presenting
us with dance and drama that will keep us all engrossed. The days will be filled with Puja, Anjali, Aarati, Sindur Khela, and of course the sumptuous food and proshaad.
This year BNE participated in the India Day celebrations organized by India Society of Worcester (ISW). It was
a feather in BNE's cap that we collaborated with other bengali organizations to present a collective cultural
program and stall representation of Bengal, that was appreciated by one and all. An enjoyable and
successful participation in the celebration of India's Independence Day!
As we think back on BNE's journey this year, from Saraswati Puja to Durga Puja, its a journey that BNE takes
through many seasons.....Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. This journey would never have been possible
without the tireless work put in by so many committed members and volunteers of the organization. BNE
events are made possible because of valued support provided by way of donations, advertisements, and
assorted forms of patronage by all who attend our events, or send us their love and best wishes during their
absence. With Ma's grace, we've been blessed with the good wishes of all our patrons, friends and families
and we thank you all for this.

Statue of Liberty Trip

I went to New York Harbor during summer. First we drove to
Conneccut and stayed in a hotel. Next day, I went to a train staon to catch a train to reach New York City. Then I got out of the
train staon and went on a cruise to visit the Statue of
Liberty.
I went to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. I took an elevator to go there. I saw how the statue was built from inside. I also
saw the stairs to go to the eyes of the statue. I looked from outside of the pedestal and saw the beauful New York harbor.
I have learned about the Statue of Liberty from audio tour. People in France gave it to
the United States of America. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi got the idea how to design the Statue of Liberty. He copied his mother’s face. Gustave Eiffel built it in 1886. Statue of Liberty was
made of copper.
We le< the place in the a<ernoon. I had ice cream when we were coming back. We
reached our home at night. It was a nice trip.
On your mark, Get Set, Go...

I walked up to the starng line, talking with two of my friends. We were going to run the
mile. Thinking about this intensified the bu(erflies in my stomach. As we lined up, I took a running
stance, ready to run.
“On your mark, get set, go!” instructed the gym teacher. A split second later, I took off and
began jogging.
I saw a good deal of people ahead of me, but gradually, I passed a few of them. I saw a
steep hill approaching and saw this as an opportunity. Many people slowed down and walked up
the hill, but I sped up and passed a few more people. My legs were beginning to re but I persevered and eventually finished running the mile. My gym teacher commented, “Wow.” Not sure
what to think, I grabbed my water bo(le and walked toward 3 other people, all boys. I then realized
that I was the first girl to finish running the mile! This made me smile, and I sat on a rock, waing
for my friends to finish.
When the gym teacher announced my me, she commented that at the beginning of the
year, my me was twelve minutes, ten seconds. But at the end of the year, I improved to ten
minutes, twenty one seconds! I improved by almost two minutes!
Later that day, when I thought about my achievement, I realized just how capable I was at doing
amazing things. And it made me wonder what else I would be able to do in the future.

On the Labor Day weekend, my family and I took a trip to New York City. We
le< on Friday evening and reached New York City at 10 p.m. We stayed in New Jersey and
went back and forth
between New York and New Jersey. We could see the colorful lights of
Manha(an from our hotel in the night. The Empire State Building and many other buildings
were lit up with a number of colors, from blue to green to red to yellow.
On Saturday morning, we took a bus to the subway staon. Then we took the subway
under the East River and into Brooklyn. In Brooklyn, we first walked on the Brooklyn Promenade. The
Brooklyn Promenade is a beauful walkway overlooking Manha(an. We sat and
took lots of pictures. Then we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge. It is a bridge that goes over
the East River and connects Brooklyn and Manha(an. There are many bridges that connect
Brooklyn and Manha(an, like the Manha(an Bridge, but the Brooklyn Bridge is the most famous because it is the oldest bridge that connects Brooklyn and Manha(an.
In Manha(an, we first stopped to eat. Then we sat in a li(le park near city hall and
watched some people breakdance on the street. Next we walked to the 9/11 Memorial, where
the terrorist planes crashed into the Twin Towers. Now there are two waterfall set within the
footprints of the original Twin Towers. We had a moment of silence. This year in school on
Sept. 11, only fourteen years a<er, the principal raised the flag half way up, and announced
that we have a moment of silence.
From the 9/11 Memorial, we took the subway to Penn Staon for the Empire State
Building. In the Empire State building, we took the elevator up to the 86th floor. And oh, wow!
What a spectacular sight it was! We could see Brooklyn, Jersey City, and the Chrysler Building.
We could see the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manha(an Bridge, the Hudson River and the East River.
We could see all the tall buildings and small buildings. The people looked like ants from all the
way up there. It was an amazing sight. From the Empire State Building we went to the Rockefeller Center and the Times Square. While we walked around, it became night and the lights
were on. The Times Square was bustling with acvity in the night.

On Sunday, we went to Columbus Circle in the Central Park and Intrepid Air and Space
museum. The museum was actually a decommissioned aircra< carrier!! We got to go into a submarine
that actually went to ba(le during the Cold War. We got to see real military jets on the deck of the
aircra< carrier. We went to a museum on the deck of the aircra< carrier that told us all about space.
There was a real spaceship inside the museum that we got to see! We got to go to where the captain
steers and navigates the ship and where the guns and cannons were. It was awesome!
On Monday, we took a ferry to Ellis Island and Liberty Island from Liberty State Park. In the
early 20th century, Ellis Island was a major immigraon staon. Most of the ships that brought the
immigrants to America stopped at Ellis Island. Now it is a museum. We learned many things about the
immigrants. We got to step into the same Great Hall that the immigrants got tested for disease and
asked quesons about their names, jobs, etc.
From Ellis Island, we took another ferry to the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gi<
from France to the United States of America. We took pictures from the ferry and from the bo(om of
the statue. We went up to the pedestal of the statue. It was a great sight. We ate lunch and ice cream
and drank lemonade. Then we took the ferry back to Liberty State Park. Finally, I said good-bye to New
York City.
It was an unforgettable trip. I hope I can go back to New York City again!

Bittersweet Summer Memories
Shreya Sarcar Age 12 Years
As I was about to leave for India in July, my heart was like a rocking boat,
Swaying with happiness this minute, and with sadness the next.
Elated with great ancipaon of meeng my brand new cousin,
Thrilled to see my grandma and my darling aunt, and my beloved cousin Arush.
As the flight takes off, I suddenly feel sick with worry.
What about my pet Guinea pig? How will she survive these eight weeks?
What about all my friends? All my favorite hangout places, all the summer acvies?
How will I survive without all of favorite things for so long?
Once in India, first two weeks seem fun with meeng new people, some old faces and playing with my cousins.
However, evenings lingered for hours with nothing to do and no where to go.
Cousins busy with tests, adults busy with chores, and I am le< alone with unlimited leisure
and severe boredom.
The days were hot, the roads are over crowded, and people had no paence for anyone.
I started counng days to come back to my hometown. I started worrying more for my pet,
stang missing my friends, my home and my familiar neighborhood joints.
One thing I had in abundance was love and affecon, but no one seemed to get me and I
never got their jokes.
Finally, it was me to come back. It was sad to say good bye, but this me,
My mind was filled with the excitement of homecoming, hugging my pet ,
Reconnecng with all my friends, walking in the familiar neighborhood!!!!
The bi(ersweet memories of my India trip will linger for a while before it fades
And what will remain is the experience that will shape me as a person.

Marcy’s adventures
Ankita Goswami, Age 10 years
“You may now begin the assessment!" the teacher called out to the class. Marcy was just about ready
to take the test when she realized that she has le< her pencils in her locker. As Marcy opened her
locker she heard a really irritang sound that made her want to pull her ears out but she tried to focus
on finding her pencils unl finally the sound got to last nerve. What is making that terrible sound Marcy thought as she went down the two stories and ended up in the basement of the school?
There she found the source of that irritang noise. It was a humongous machine with gyrang wheels
and sorts of flashing lights. Curiosity got the best of Marcy. She went inside and started pressing
bu(ons. Soon, the dash board in front of her started showing some numbers. When she got in, it was
showing 2015. But suddenly it started going down .. 2000 …1980 .. 1900 … 1800 … A me machine!
Marcy thought.
When the machine stopped, the clothes were the first thing Marcy noced when she landed. These
clothes look like the ones from that old TV show that nobody watches Marcy thought. She was wearing a bonnet with a really wide and weird looking dress with a pair of ugly and really uncomfortable
shoes. The next thing she noced was that she was on a ship with people dressed like Mohawk Indians who were throwing boxes of tea and stuff. The people were throwing it into the Boston harbor or
at least Marcy thought they were throwing it into the Boston harbor. It was hard to read in the dark
but it all made sense. Marcy was in the me of the Boston tea party!
Ahem. Excuse me! Hello! Anyone? It seemed like no one even cared that a young girl was calling out
for a(enon. But Marcy could understand why no one could hear her. With all the racket going on
from the splashes to the yells from colonists. Marcy decided to help with the process and picked up a
box of tea and threw it into the river. Plop! Plop! It kept on going on unl Marcy felt a wave of sleepiness hit her and so she made herself comfortable on some sacks and soon fell asleep.
It's those colonists get them! Someone yelled as Marcy snapped awake. She looked around and saw
colonists running to the harbor while Brish soldiers chased them away. I have to get out of here!
Marcy thought. She started heading for the dock when suddenly a soldier stood in her way. And
where do you think you're going? Marcy turned around and saw more soldiers heading towards her.
She didn't know what to do or where to go. She was trapped completely.
What do I do! What do I do! Marcy was literarily screaming in her head as she thought of a plan. Suddenly without thinking she kicked the soldier in front of her in the shin and ran out of the ship into the
streets of Boston and heard a soldier yell out get her! This is so not good Marcy thought as she hid in
the shadows trying to figure out how to get back into the ship where the me machine was. Suddenly
a hand grabbed her and pulled her into a dark alley.

Help! Marcy screamed when she suddenly came face to face with a colonist. Please you must keep quiet if you thou not wish to be found by those soldiers. The colonist said. Okay Marcy whispered. Now
you must sleep and we will get you back on that ship so you can go home. Wait how did you know
that? Marcy asked. You must now go to sleep and we shall deal will this ma(er in the morning the
colonist said. Marcy then closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep and soon she did.
Come child get up the colonist said the next morning. We do not have much me. The sun will soon
rise. “Fine” Marcy groaned as she got up from the floor. You must be quiet so no one hears us. We
must get to Boston harbor the colonist said as they started to go towards Boston harbor. Soon they
were very close but they had done a lot of walking and Marcy's feet were starng to hurt.
How much longer? Marcy asked as she basically dragged herself across the streets. See that ship? The
colonist pointed out. That was the ship you got on last night and now we have to.... We have to what?
Suddenly Marcy was pulled by the colonist behind some crates just as a Brish soldier walked by them.
And now we have to hide and stay low the colonist whispered finishing his sentence.
So Marcy and the colonist hid and moved unl finally they were at the dock and the ship was in front of
them. Just as they were about to step on they heard a voice. Get them! A Brish soldier yelled out.
Suddenly Marcy and the colonist were completely surrounded and there was no way out. You go the
colonist said. I will handle them he said as he took out musket. Marcy then ran the fastest she ever did
in her enre life and made it onto the ship.
She found the me machine and barely escaped from the hands of Brish soldiers and suddenly zap!
Marcy was gone again. When Marcy got out of the me machine she heard a strange noise like an animal roar. She wasn't in the basement of the school or in the streets of Boston. There were actually
nothing except nature and so she was in a different place and her clothes were different too. They
looked like clothing that cave woman wore.
Oh no Marcy thought as she looked up. A T. Rex stared back at her and he looked hungry. In seconds,
Marcy was being chased by a hungry T. Rex and it was geUng closer and closer unl finally.. Help! Marcy sat up on her bed with H. G. Wells’ The Time Machine on her lap. She glanced at her alarm clock. It
was 2:25 am. Wow! that was one crazy dream Marcy thought as she went back to bed. It really is a
dream. Or is it?

¾াইট বািতল, ,কউ বলল ধু fপু েরর [েলা, ,কউ বলল সারা িদেনর, আবার ,কউ বলল সারা সƒােহর। এমনটা আবার হয় নািক? 2ায় হাজার খােনক
,±ন ,রাজ ওঠা-নামা কের এই এয়ারেপােট"! তার সবই......? তা িক কের হেত পাের? কী ,য িবাস করেবা, আর কােকই ,য বা িবাস করেবা তার িকছু ই

িনিন! তাও আবার ,খাদ সান-³াি´ে’া ই²ারন9াসানাল এয়ারেপােট"? ভীষণ িবর( লাগল। ,খয়াল করলাম ,য এয়ারেপােট"র ‘মিনটর’[েলাও সব
অেকেজা। নািক ই¡া কেরই ‘সু ইচ-অফ’ কের ,দওয়া হেয়েছ? বাইেরর কন খবরই পাওয়া যাে¡ না। এয়ারেপােট"রই একটা কােফেত ,গলাম, যিদ
,সখানকার Sিভ[েলা ,থেক িকছু জানা যায়। ,সখােনও একই অচলাব“া। কােফেত কিফ, ,পিÀ সবই ‘চলেছ’, ধু Sিভ[েলা ছাড়া। আমার এই এগােরা
বছেরর অ9ােমিরকান জীবেন এমন অচল অব“া ,কাথাও ,কানিদন ,দিখিন, অ9ােমিরকােত ,য এমনটা হেত পাের ,সটাই িবাস হি¡ল না। ঘিড়-ধের, িনওমমািফক সব কাজ হয় এখােন, এমনটাই ,তা জানতাম এতিদন!

ইউিনভািস"Sেত। ,কাডােকর ই²ািভ" উটা f-সƒাহ বােদ ির-’9াজু য়াল করা ,হাল। ,±েনর Sিকট ওরাই ,কেটিছল, ওরাই ,সটা ির-বু ক কের আমােক তার ই,মইল কনফােম"সান পা«েয় ,দেব তা জািনেয় িদল। এিদেক আমার কাজ ,থেক মCল-বু ধ ছু S িনেয়িছলাম; মCেলেতা আর িকছু ই হল না, মাঝখান ,থেক
ছু Sটাই ধু ধু জলাwিল ,গল।
বাkােদর িকিচরিমিচর ছাড়া এই নশান বািড়টােক ,কমন ,যন Áশানপু রীর মত লাগিছল। তাই তিড়ঘিড় ,ড-,কয়াের ,গলাম ওেদর তুলেত – ওেদর সােথ
আজ ,বশ ,খলা করা যােব এখন! ‘সু সানা’ও আমােক ,দেখ খু ব খু িশ হল, ওর ভাঙা-ইংেরিজ, আর ¦9ািনশ িমিশেয় আমােক ,বাঝাল ,য িক আয" - ও ,তা
আজ সকােল এত কের আমােক এটাই বলেত ,চেয়িছল ,য আজ আর আমার িনউ-ইয়ক" িগেয় কাজ ,নই! ,Jস আর মায়া আমােক ,দেখ আনেI হাত তািল
িদেয় আর ওেদর চুেলর ঝুঁ S fিলেয় বারকেয়ক লাফাল, আর সু ইেঙ ,দাল খাওয়া ,কইS ওর 2ায় ‘ন9ারা-মু ি ’ মাথাটা একিদেক ,হিলেয়, মু খ ,থেক fধ
উগেল, িজভ বার কের ,ফাকলা মু েখ এমন িফক কের হাসল ,য ও ,যন আেগ ,থেকই জানত ,য আজ ওেক আিমই বািড় িনেয় ,যেত আসব! যা ,ভেবিছল
«ক তাই হওয়ােতই এই িনম"ল হািস-উপহার! এমিনেতেতা ওেদর মা-ই আেস ওেদরেক বািড় িনেয় ,যেত।
বািড় িফের িল?ােকও ,ফান কের কথাটা জািনেয় িদলাম, ,য ,মেয়েদর ,ড-,কয়ার ,থেক তুেল িনেয়িছ। ও বলল ,য ও-ও আজ তাড়াতািড় বািড় িফরেছ, ওর
অিফস আজ একটু আেগ-আেগই বe হেয় যাে¡, জিC-নাশকতার ভেয়। এিদেক নািক আমােদর এই এত সােধর ‘,গাে­ন-,গট’ ি~জটােকও জিC-নাশকরা
‘টােগ"ট’ কের থাকেত পাের। তাই রাrা-ঘাট সব বe কের ,দওয়া হে¡। ঘÂা খােনেকর মেধ9ই ও বািড় িফের এল। আমরা সবাই িমেল িদেনর বাকী সময়টা
আমােদর বড় িলিভং-0েমর বড় Sিভটার িÃেন ,চাখ ,সঁ েট বেস
থাকলাম।
সেe9েবলা ,কালকাতা ,থেক দাদার ,ফান এল। ও বলল “িকের ‘মানু ’,
,তােদর ওখােন নািক কাল িক সব হেয়েছ? ,তারা সবাই «ক আিছস
,তা?” ওেক ,বাঝালাম ,য আমার এখােন ‘কাল’ নয়, ‘আজ’, আজেকই

রাত হল; ,মেয়-িতনেটর ,চাখ[েলা ঘু েম ঢু লু ঢু লু , আিম সােথ না েল
ওরা েত চায় না, তাই এবার েত যাই। ,ফানটা হ9াং-আপ কের ভাবলাম «কই ,তা, সময়মত েত না ,গেল চলেব িক কের? কাল ,ভােরইেতা আবার
,সই কেয়কটা [ঁত ,খেয় উঠেত হেব, দরজায় িখল িদেত হেব না?
