The creation of New York’s “Nightclub Godfather”
Mark Baker (the man behind Double Seven and
Buddha Bar), multi-level lifestyle destination
Townhouse aims to bring New York’s exciting club
scene to Bali. And it succeeds. Action takes place in
two glam lounges, Club (Wednesday to Saturday
only) dedicated to grooving and independent artists
and guest DJs pumping out house beats, and the
upstairs Upper Lounge (nightly), for serious
mingling. Expect mixologist cocktails, classically
elegant interiors and celebrity-spotting Baker’s pals,
including Justin Bieber and supermodels. Things
heat-up post 11pm; take timeout on the rooftop
garden. Street-level all-day gourmet café Squeeze
serves organic cold-pressed juices; return here to
detox.
A stand-alone venue within TS Suites complex
(from Jakarta’s TS Citos creators), Jenja is another
nightspot injecting international club sophistication
into Bali. Stylish, split-level Jenja incorporates an
upper restaurant-bar serving authentic Middle
Eastern cuisine (handy for late-night dining) and
downstairs, intimate club zone with an ample bar.
Open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10.30pm, Jenja
is a hit for late closing hours and dedicated music
nights, including Wednesday’s HipHop, R&B and
Funk (with ladies-only, discounted cocktails), and
Fridays and Saturdays, Techno and House. Regular
parties also attract Bali’s hip party crowd. VIP bottle
service tables add to the upscale vibe, but still
keeping it island casual.

The Morning after
the Night before
All that partying needs sustenance. Near Batu
Belig Beach, sun-filled, funky Watercress Café
is a popular haunt of Bali expats. Inspired by
Mediterranean, Middle-Eastern, Southern Asian
and Pan Pacific cuisines, the health-conscious
scrumptious café food incorporates practically
all-organic, locally sourced fresh ingredients.
Rustic Breakfasts and SOS Sunday Brunches—
both running all day, plus the house-blended
Arabica coffees are excellent hangover cures.
“Lunch Showcase” displaying daily-prepared
global treats, from Thai fish cakes to falafel, plus
big bowls of signature salads, burst with crunchy
fresh goodness; home-baked cakes, however, are
far from saintly.
Alternatively, have someone cook breakfast
for you without setting foot outside—inclusive
service when staying at One Eleven Villas.
Your personal butler and chef whip-up a gourmet
breakfast within your villa’s open-air kitchen,
leaving the sumptuous feast to be indulged in
privacy (well these are adults-only villas),

family-friendly spot for leisurely lunches—
escaping the heat. Designed by Moroccan-born
interior designer Zohra Boukhari (creator of
Bali-based, lavish home wares Havelli
Boutiques), this vintage café-restaurant evokes
a whimsical Euro-style tea lounge, albeit
tropically open-sided for natural breezes.
Simple yet delish French-Mediterranean, Asian
and Moroccan-inspired dishes run from
signature chicken olives tajine and tuna tartar
to pumpkin cheesecake. Good any time of day
for artisanal-made gelatos.
