LOT 1
1300
The big, bright future we predict is ahead for Lot 1 started with a bang!
She was shown by Katy Satree and earned Reserve Champion of Division 1 at
the 2013 National Junior Shorthorn Show.
Show ring success is just the beginning of her achievements. It is clear that
this daughter of the immortal Trump and Augusta Pride 403, the Rodeo
Drive-sired daughter of the original Augusta Pride 3127, has the potential to
become a true breeding female who transmits both style and substance to her
sons and daughters. She’s definitely a donor-in-development!
LCCC is not retaining interests or flushes in our females this year to allow
“forward looking” breeders the opportunity to invest with no strings attached.
This heifer made that decision extra difficult! See us after the sale if you’d like
to discuss our involvement in her future matings and marketing.
Whoa! Don’t miss the opportunity to own Lot 1’s FULL SISTER heifer
pregnancy due March, 2014. What you see is what you’ll get!

•Offered by RL Cattle Company, Bell City, LA
Augusta Pride 403 has been one of our top donors at RL Cattle Company. We
acquired her from a flush of the original SS Augusta Pride 3127. We chose Rodeo
Drive for the sire, knowing the donor cow potential of that mating. We were
fortunate to raise three heifers and a bull from that flush. We kept 403 and still
use the bull in our AI program. We sold one heifer and lost the other but have
progeny from her. The 3127 mating to Rodeo Drive has produced several top
donors in the breed and their matings to Trump and Trump-sired bulls continue
to work, as evidenced by the Lot 1 heifer! 403 has also mated well to Sonny and
Sonny Duece. We currently own a Sonny daughter that we are holding for a
future donor. 403’s daughter 7D22 was a champion for Lance. She is sired by
Sonny Duece, as are the Lot 1C embryos. The donor RL Augusta Pride 403 is
due to calve late November, 2013 to RL Navigator. She’ll be ready for this flush
in early March.

ring glory, but 465 has never let up as one of the most consistent, dependable,
versatile Augusta Prides we’ve ever had the privilege to breed. We have flushed
8
her so many ways and she has proven herself a top producer over and over. The
mating to Big Daddy Jazz is yet another example of 465’s tremendous breeding
value – front and center! And she’s sure done a job raising her natural heifer calf!
Along with a stunning conformation for show ring pursuits, Lot 9 presents a host
of options as a breeding female of the future. Don’t let her pass you by!

Quintin, Vicki, Julie and I spent a day at Leveldale with Les Mathers to
choose Rosette 021 as our pick of the Leveldale spring borns, purchased at
“The Summit” in Denver for $10,000. We saw plenty of good cattle, heard intriguing stories and saw ALL the artifacts of the historic Leveldale herd. Cows like
Rosette have kept them in business! Sharing her first production to the outcross
sire Creole as a sale attraction – what a mating to start her donor career!
This good, stout-made heifer is a direct daughter of the 2006 Denver Champion
and sired by the legendary two-time National Champion, SULL Primetime.
DF Miss Ivory has produced very good, high dollar cattle for us and Bob Duis.
A 3/4 sister was the 2008 High Point heifer in Ohio for the Rumpke family. We
have shown a full sister and several other 3/4 sisters. Lot 16 is carrying a heifer calf
sired by the 100% dehorning Creole – a very dependable mating.

The dam of Lot 19 is one of the best Rodeo Drive cows ever in the Bollum Family
Shorthorns breeding program. They’ve been in the business since 1863, so that’s a
LOT of cows to measure up to! Think about how the Rodeo Woman dam side of this

This lot is made for discriminating and opportunity-minded “breed builders.” Don’t

REVIVAL BUYER/SELLER AGREEMENTS • For all lots in which future fulfillment is a factor (ie. flushes, retained
rights to flushes, retained percentage ownership), the Revival provides a written agreement between seller and
buyer. Prepared by an attorney, these agreements document the original sale terms in case of a dispute. Both
parties will sign, and will be provided a copy. The original, signed agreement is filed by the Revival.
REVIVAL FLUSH TERMS • Feature Flush lots guarantee a minimum of six transferable embryos. Flush purchases

written agreement between seller and buyer. Seller will not begin flush procedure until agreement is signed. Buyer
has no obligation to make any part of the balance payment until complete flush agreement is achieved. Seller has
no obligation to release embryos or pregnancies achieved until complete balance payment is made. Buyer pays all
flush expenses, unless otherwise specified in detail by seller.
REVIVAL EMBRYO PACKAGES • Proper settlement must be made in order for embryos to be released. The update
sheet will list the embryo packages that are available to take with you from the sale, along with the storage location of
all other packages. Shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
PREGNANCY INSURANCE • The Revival suggests that buyers of pregnancy lots invest in pregnancy insurance. The policy covers
a live birth and the first 49 days of life at the cost of 15% of the purchase price. Buyers should notify Hugh F. Miller Insurance,
Harding & Harding agent, on sale day or by phone at 815-626-1300 by October 7, 2013.
DNA GENOTYPING & GENETIC TESTING • Sale lots are THF and PHAF, unless otherwise stated. A DNA genotype is utilized
in establishing parentage and in determining the presence of a genetic defect. Animals do not have to be DNA genotyped or
free of defects to be registered. A listing of genetic defect “free” (F) and “carrier” (C) animals maintained by the ASA is periodically
updated on the website www.shorthorn.org. If an animal becomes an A.I. sire or a donor dam, all required genetic testing must
be completed and a DNA record must be on file with ASA prior to registering any progeny.
CALFHOOD VACCINATION OF HEIFERS • All Revival open heifers have been calfhood vaccinated by their consignors.
CANADIAN PURCHASES • We welcome our Canadian friends to make purchases in the sale, and we will cooperate in
arranging international testing and shipment. However, all costs of testing and shipment are the responsibility of the buyer.
18
REVIVAL CONSIGNMENT INVITATION • Making a purchase in the Revival creates the eligibility to consign to future sales.
Please contact Steve French by April 1, 2014 to discuss your interest in consigning potential sale lots next year.

Without question, Mona Lisa 0133 is one of the best Shorthorn females ever offered
in any of the twelve annual Revival sales. When we partnered to purchase Mona
Lisa 0133 from John Hagie, we knew she’d be the competitive show heifer the
Reichenbach’s wanted to invest in for Sterling to show – 3rd Over All Breeds at the
Michigan Winter Beef Classic. What a big win for the BREED! We were satisfied
with what an easy-keeping, eye-appealing cow 0133 became. Missy and Sterling
have done a nice job preparing her April ET daughter by Red Stallion, Lot 20A. The
donor is bred the same way for a natural calf due in a month – and her Red Reward,
Cumberland, Solution, Mona Lisa calf will be named with YOUR herd prefix!

Two embryos sired by
SULL GNCC Asset ET,
sire of Lot 28A!
We offered a flush from this female in the Revival last year and generated a lot
of interest in her! This American Royal Reserve Grand Champion produced the
NAILE class winner pictured and the heifer selling as Lot 28A. We’ve sold every
egg she has given us – an average of 15 per flush – except the last three in the
tank. She was one of the crowd favorites and top-sellers of the Duis Dispersal.
Her embryos have gone to top programs such as WHR, GNCC, SharBen and
WayMar.
After a lot of thought and discussion, we decided to keep this year’s natural calf
and the eggs we have stored and offer her as a donor feature.

Wow! That’s the best word I can come up with to describe Lot 30A, Sara Rose RS!
Mating Red Stallion’s outcross and Cumberland genetics on Trump x Rose really clicked.
This flashy heifer will look stunning on the green shavings of the North American (just
like her mother on the next page), and likewise very competitive. She is fancy, and she
knows it! Her value will increase each day as she develops into the exquisite donor we
know she will become. The blend of power and style that this heifer possesses is more
astounding when you consider her full sister, the Lot 30B “2014 model” being carried
by a responsible, registered recipient from the Bollum Family program. (Can’t ever go
wrong with a Bollum recip raising your valuable calf. Just ask the KEY Conference
participants about the class of cows they judged here in July!)

Turn the page to see the influence of the Desert Rose part of Sara Rose 8193’s pedigree.
Remember that she is a full sister to the national champions HD Ruby 903, SULL
Rosemary 8085, and SULL Rose Mary 636, as well as the phenomenal sons of NPS Desert
Rose 004: Solution, Bloodstone and Cyclone!
You can see how well she worked with Red Stalllion’s Cumberland lines. Her cross with
Red Knight’s Mona Lisa pedigree is exceptionally high in quality and marketability.
I’d like to see one back in the Revival next year! Waco on Sara Rose 8193 was a definite
home run –ask Alan Simon about his calf from this mating.

LOT 51A
Sell the daughter, keep the dam? Sell the dam, keep the daughter? You know the drill! It’s really hard to decide.
One afternoon right before we lotted the sale, it became very clear. Una Mary 800 is exactly the KIND of proven,
productive young brood cow that we (and everyone else) would hope to find in a sale! Look at her two daughters
by two different sires – the white Swagger was a hit of the 2013 Ohio Beef Expo Show & Sale, her Empire
heifer, Lot 51A, really catches your eye! And her April 2014 calf by our new herd sire is exciting.
See Low Rider at the sale and find out about his limited semen offering to “fund the future” of AJSA!
44
We’d like to propose sharing a flush of Una Mary 800 with the buyer next year – we’ll provide Red Stallion!

HVR Mary 773 is Doug Hahn’s all-time favorite cow. (That’s saying a lot, considering
his son owned and showed Desert Rose 004!) We mated her to a very hot sire, bred by
Han Du, now owned and promoted by Schrag Shorthorns. (An outfit who also has very
high standards of comparison!) This donor is an embryo machine – her last three flushes
averaged 23 viable eggs. Exceptional fertility keeps the Mary family on the “front burner”
of this breed. Gotta have it! Here’s a potential 2014 AJSA Show calf division contender!

Solutions Mary 661’s white Wingman daughter sold in the 2012 Revival and earned a
very respectable second place at the North American her first time out. The show season
that followed was rewarding and fun for owner Amber Pickard and her family. This
year’s daughter by Empire, Lot 53, is without a doubt a cow prospect. They don’t pass out
ribbons for that – but maybe they should! (There’s an idea that would “stimulate and coordinate efforts to produce superior cattle.” Ribbons for cow prospects! Think about it, Montie!)

LITTLE CEDAR WESTON MARY
Maternal granddam of Lots 54A and 54B
FCC EMPIRE 2Y ET – Sire of Lots 54A and 54B
You’ve read Steve’s offers (in print!) to share in a flush and he’ll provide elite
semen? Well, he offered sexed Empire for a flush of Weston Mary 909X, and
I jumped at the chance!
With the easy-keeping ability of the dam and the power and performance
of the sire, I knew this mating would be a sure thing. (Steve told me I had to
provide a responsible, quality recip to raise this special heifer calf. She’s from
our registered herd and will do the job well.)
If you don’t already know, I’m a big believer in the “retro” genetics of the
original Weston Mary. So much so that, right after the sale last year, I joined
High Ridge Shorthorns in ownership of her son, Cabrera! He’s working in
Canada now and this new photo is super. He speaks volumes for this line!

(That’s the way we like ‘em.) Empire seems to work on a lot of different types of females.
He sure did a good job here, I think this heifer may be the “sleeper” of the entire sale!

Queen genetics worked very well with the Waco daughter 43Y – well enough that I’m
going to jump out there and predict that Golden Polka 1325 is going to make a really
nice cow. And that’s what it’s all about! Wait, I think that’s the hokey-pokey, not the

ASA fieldman Gene McDonald was so impressed when he saw Leader 9th in Western Canada
that Harvey Fulton nicknamed the bull after him! Curtiss Bollum says he was a good “big” bull,
popular not just because he was bigger than others at that time but because he had butt and muscle.
Other breeders recall that he was a more consistent breeder than his sire or full brother, Leader 6th.

Great Help You Can’t Pay For - Consignors, Family and Really Good Neighbors
Excerpt from “The Great Shorthorn Revival”
by Dave Lorenz, published in 1965 in the
50th Anniversary issue of Shorthorn World
Now, “What’s this Shorthorn Revival Business?”
When the cow business is good, ranchers buy more
bulls than when business isn’t good. They are looking
for bulls that will solve their problems. They also have
to get their cows pregnant. But, if they can’t find bulls
that will solve their problems, they will have no choice
but to take the best bulls available. Unfortunately for
the Shorthorn breed, I don’t think we have enough bulls
available to get one extra thousand Shorthorn bulls
into this great, open market for replacement bulls.
We believe we must breed the kind of strength and
quality into our Shorthorns to make bulls and their
calves strong enough to be preferred by ranchers, and
commercial cattlemen and take some bull business
away from these other breeds.
The Great Shorthorn Revival is here. The need for
strong Shorthorn bulls is 100 times greater than your
and our capacity to produce at this time.
But, opportunity is where the NEED is…and because
the need is great, the opportunity is great! Don’t let the
Great Shorthorn Revival pass you by!
Start today! If you need a new bull, travel farther,
look harder, pay more…but insist on the bull you need.
Don’t settle for a substitute for a good bull.
Pick up the big, strong females you occasionally
have the opportunity to buy. The kind that will produce
a calf every year, and give enough milk to make a job
of the calf.
Start today to build up the strength of your herd.
Competition demands that all of us Shorthorn people
produce bulls that will sire bull calves strong enough to
be preferred by commercial cattlemen all over America!
