PASTOR’S MESSAGE
3
This weekend at the vigil Mass in our parish a sister from the Institute of the Servant of the Lord
and the Virgin of Matara, (IVE’s female branch) will professed the perpetual vows, which
means she will spouse with Christ for ever in a special way. What a grace that Sister Compassionis decided to make her vows in SSPP since this year, as we celebrate the year of the Consecrated life, her perpetual vows are already an explanation of what a consecrated person is. The
Catechism of the Catholic Church states that: “Christ proposes the evangelical counsels, in their
great variety, to every disciple. The perfection of charity, to which all the faithful are called,
entails for those who freely follow the call to consecrated life the obligation of practicing chastity in celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom, poverty and obedience. It is the profession of these counsels, within a permanent state of life recognized by the Church, that characterizes the life consecrated to God.” 915 “ The state of consecrated life is thus one way of experiencing a “more intimate” consecration, rooted in Baptism and dedicated totally
to God. In the consecrated life, Christ’s faithful, moved by the Holy Spirit, propose to follow Christ more nearly, to
give themselves to God who is loved above all and, pursuing the perfection of charity in the service of the Kingdom, to
signify and proclaim in the Church the glory of the world to come.” 916 “ Religious life derives from the mystery of
the Church. It is a gift she has received from her Lord, a gift she offers as a stable way of life to the faithful called by
God to profess the counsels. Thus, the Church can both show forth Christ and acknowledge herself to be the Savior's
bride. Religious life in its various forms is called to signify the very charity of God in the language of our time.” 926.
Seminarians: the seminarians are back and with great enthusiasm they started last Monday the new academic

IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, Samuel was
awakened from sleep by the voice of God calling his name. In the New Testament, Paul was
knocked off his horse. Does God call in this way
today? Usually not. One seminarian describes
his experience of call: “I was very involved in
my parish doing youth ministry and teaching
C.C.D. and I was happy with that. But for some
reason it wasn’t enough. I had a nagging feeling
that I wanted to do more for people.” Do you
feel you may be called to priesthood, sisterhood,
or brotherhood? Contact the diocesan vocation
office. Presented by The Mankato Serra Club
for priestly and religious vocations for more
information call 507.696.8119.
ADULT BIBLE STUDY
BOOK OF JAMES – PEARLS
FOR WISE LIVING
We will be studying James this
fall starting September 14/15, 2015 on Monday
evenings at 6:30 PM and Tuesday afternoons at
1:30 PM. Sessions usually last two hours – one
hour for sharing our answers and one hour of
DVD with Jeff Cavins. The Book of James will
last for 11 weeks and we should complete our
study before December (if the weather cooperates). I have heard that this study is one of the
favorites. Call Linda Zumwalde at 720-0467 to
participate. You won’t be disappointed.

YOU
We Want
to
Become a Catechist!
The role of the catechist is a vital ministry
to the Church. According to St. Pope John
Paul II, catechesis is a “sacred and inalienable right...The Church has always considered catechesis one of
her primary tasks...Christ gave the apostles a final command - to
make disciples of all naƟons and to teach them to observe all
that He has
commanded… Catechesis always has been
and always will be a work for which the whole Church must feel
responsible and must wish to be responsible.” (CT 1, 14-15) It is a
gi that has
tremendous value to the global community at
large because through the catechist's word and ac on, the message of Christ con nues to have a place in all human affairs.
