PRESS KIT - CES
January 6-9, 2016 - Las Vegas (USA)
“ENGIE at CES: Inventing Tomorrow’s Cleantech Together”
CES: A GLOBAL INNOVATION HOT SPOT
With 177,000 visitors from 153 countries and 3,631 exhibiting companies, CES is
one of the most important exhibitions entirely dedicated to innovation. For a few
days each year, Las Vegas becomes the meeting place for all the players in the consumer electronics field.
Because industry is going digital at a very rapid pace, this is an essential opportunity for ENGIE to keep its finger on industry’s pulse and to network with innovative
players in the cleantech field. It is also an occasion for the Group to highlight its “innovation ecosystem”: the Group’s entities and partners that are developing solutions
to transform the energy sector.
In 2015, France represented the largest foreign delegation to CES, particularly thanks
to the French Tech. Emmanuel Macron, the French Minister for the Economy, Industry
and Digital Affairs, was also present in 2015, and should attend the 2016 event as
well. Apart from Telco companies, other sectors are taking advantage of this opportunity to present their innovations as well. A very large space devoted to “French
Startups” is also planned for the 2016 event.
ENGIE is therefore enthusiastic about joining together with French Tech to support
France’s innovators, and the Group will not be alone in this: several other French and
American partners will also be present at associated booths.
ENGIE AT THE 2016 CES
ENGIE and its partners will be present at the Sands, within the Eureka Park Next.
This space offers a marketplace designed to give startups a chance to launch their
new products or services, or to offer innovative ideas. At its booth, ENGIE will be
promoting its internal innovations. The Group will also make three spaces available
for its partners, Sigfox, Tendril and Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS).
Innovations at the ENGIE booth:
Sands Expo, Level 1, Hall G - Eureka Park Next #81222-81223
homni (presentation formats: thermostat, demo, video)
With a combination of a connected thermostat and optical sensor,
attached to a customer’s natural gas meter, Homnistat is a revolution in heating, giving for the first time private customers total
control over their own energy. homni was the winner of the ENGIE
Innovation Trophies for 2015 in the “New Business” category.
Robot Diya One (presentation formats: robot and video)
ENGIE Cofely and Partnering Robotics have established
a partnership to promote the new services offered by Diya One,
developed by Partnering Robotics. The goal is to offer innovative
applications for energy performance in buildings and the dissemination of information to their occupants, as well as the direct
actuation of energy appliances on standby.
Smart EAZ (presentation format: video)
In Toulouse (France), ENGIE Ineo has designed and installed a
smart grid to connect facilities that consume energy on the scale
of an “Economic Activity Zone” (EAZ), including those that produce energy and those that store it. The site is one of the first
concrete smart grid experiments on this scale in France.
ENGIE in North America (presentation format: web application)
Presentation of a home energy management dashboard that allows individuals to
manage a whole range of commercially available thermostats and security systems
from their smartphones.
Ecova and Retroficiency (presentation formats: web application,
video)
Ecova’s Energy & Sustainability Platform brings together energy
data, technology and expertise on one medium in order to
improve customer retention in the energy sector.
PowerZee (presentation format: web application)
A Mobile Application intended to improve energy efficiency on
university campuses while simultaneously conducting a friendly
collective experiment. PowerZee consists in the development of
a game that combines a smartphone-based virtual experience
with practical initiatives on campuses to get users engaged in
reducing their daily consumption.
Indupol One (presentation format: mock-up)
ENGIE is a technical partner of the Indupol One solar car, and was
involved in the electrical safety and photovoltaic panel
performance tests prior to their installation on the vehicle.
Indupol One received the Technical Innovation Award at the
2014 World Solar Challenge in Australia, and its first road test
was conducted at the 2015 Solar Challenge in Abu Dhabi.
INNOVATION AT ENGIE
A major utility for over 150 years, ENGIE is convinced that the world of energy is
undergoing a profound and lasting transformation. In this context, the Group has set
itself the goal of becoming Europe’s leader in energy transition, in particular by
focusing on innovation. This drive is at the core of the Group’s efforts to transform
good ideas into operational services for the benefit of its customers.
Four key areas have already been identified:
•
•
•
•
Demand-side Management, Decentralized Power Generation & Energy Storage ;
Energy digitalization ;
Cities, Territories, Mobility ;
Home Comfort & Energy Efficiency.
The Group’s internal organization also evolved to boost entrepreneurial creativity.
New tools and processes have also been developed so that innovation can contribute
sustainably to the Group’s growth.
ENGIE New Ventures, a €100 million investment fund, has been launched to support
innovative startups. An incubation process for employees’ projects has been set up,
supporting approximately ten projects per year.
Key figures:
• 7 investments in startups have already been made by ENGIE New Ventures:
Powerdale, Tendril, Sigfox, Redbird, Kiwi Power, Apix Analytics,
Advanced Microgrid Solutions.
• More than 8 500 employees are part of Innov@ENGIE,
the Group’s internal social network for innovation.
• More than 300 ideas for innovations have been proposed by employees on Innov@ENGIE, and more than 200 employees are now intrapreneurship
candidates.
• 15 employee-led projects currently incubated in the Group’s 7 partner
incubators worldwide (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil).
• Group employees have proposed over 500 innovation projects for the 7th edition (2015) of the internal “Innovation Trophies” competition.
• A network of more than 50 innovation managers across the Group.
