and educational activities inspired
by GE technologies that enrich our
lives and our global community.
Unique activity stations invite you to
explore renewable energy and clean
water technology, create your own
inventions as you experiment with
design & engineering, and work as
collaborators in this exhibit’s hands-on
environment. Construct and test a
wind-powered TINKERTOY model,
experiment with filtration, collaborate
on a design using linked computers,
create a TINKERTOY structure using
nature as inspiration, and so
much more!

In 1987, Dr. Johnson began research on
two human bones discovered nearly 30
years earlier by Museum archaeologist
Phil Orr. The bones, found buried 37 feet
below the surface and exposed in the
canyon wall, proved to be the oldest
yet dated in the Americas. Join us for
an exploration of the prehistoric past
through archaeological clues unearthed
during excavations at the site.
By invite only for Naturalist-level
members and above. Space is limited
and reservations are required.

In this innovative program, four scholars
explore social, religious, and artistic
responses to massive epidemics. Ranging
from nineteenth-century Italy, to Buddhist
Japan, to the 20th century United States,
the program shows the diversity of
human responses to contagion, while at
the same time highlighting our common
humanity in response to unimaginable
death and suffering.
The inaugural event of UCSB & SBMNH’s
“Culture and Nature” series, the program
will include a performance of selected
scenes from the award-winning play
Angels in America.
