Homepage Takeover
A homepage takeover consists of a customised static wallpaper and a 300 x 250 advert. The static wallpaper can relate
to (or interact with!) the 300 x 250 unit.
Medium Rectangle:
Please refer to 300x250 Medium Rectangle technical specifications above
Static Wallpaper element:
Important notes:

All HPTO creatives should be delivered 4 working days before the go-live date.

File type: static image (Jpeg/Gif/Png)
Maximum weight: 100K

We strongly recommend to download the latest version of the takeover template PSD before each new
project, as this will contain the most up-to-date representation of the site. The url is
http://corporate.miniclip.com/page/view/advertising/ad-solutions/media-centre/takeovers

The takeover header (above the site layout) is always 136 pixels high.

The free space right and left of the content space depends on user screen resolution. It is recommended that
any important information, such as text or logo, is displayed in the header and not in the gutters.

Miniclip Ad Spaces Technical Specifications

It’s important to remember that around 25% of miniclip’s users have a widescreen monitor of 1024 pixels or
smaller. If we use an image more than 1200px wide for a homepage takeover, its edges and any information
contained in them won’t be visible for a large section of the audience, and the campaign’s impact may be
affected.
For example, this wide background image looks good on a large monitor...
…but doesn’t make sense on more modest monitors.

Please note that the whole 1600x2960 wallpaper space should be filled. Do not leave any blank space. The
Miniclip content is displayed on 1010x2600.

Around 75% of miniclip’s users do have widescreen monitors bigger than 1024 pixels. In order to ensure the
takeover looks good for them as well it is recommended that the takeover skin is designed with a gradient on
all sides. The last pixel should be the same colour on all sides so that the HTML colour can be set to match
that colour.\

BEST PRACTICE: Please supply the completed takeover file in JPEG format and also as a layered PSD within
the template provided. This will allow us to make any minor changes quickly and easily where necessary. If
this is not possible we are also happy to accept GIF or PNG files of the background image provided they are
within the file size limits outlined above. Also please supply the relevant destination URL. This one can
include a click tracker and must be an absolute URL
Clickable Takeover:
The takeover header is clickable. For the best performance we recommend placing a clear call-to-action. The clickable
area size is 1010x100 pixels. The guide size is available in the takeover templake PSD. The clickable area is
automatically generated and overlaid on your takeover image. There is no need to create extra banners.

Navigation & functionality - Creative requirements

Creative submitted by or on behalf of an advertiser shall not:
o Utilize fake html or images that elicit unexpected behaviors. Examples of these include but are not

 Static images of: drop down menus, text boxes, scroll down menus, radio buttons, etc., that
are not fully functional
o Utilize any element designed to generate a click without relevant information or content at the
destination.
o Utilize 'Focus' commands to make the ad the active window
o Utilize 'fake' "Close" icons (for example: when you close an ad, it should close it and not trigger
'unexpected' behavior such as another ad, page, etc.)
o Utilize 'mouse trapping' whereby the advertiser does not allow users to use their 'back button' and
traps them on their site

Ad cannot:
o Perform an automatic download of any kind to a user's system or present a download dialog box
without first presenting detailed information to the user about the download and then requiring the
user to click.
Sound
o Audio can only be user-initiated and can never start automatically.
o If a mouse-over is used, the sound can only start when the user hovers on the creative with his/her mouse. The
audio has to stop when the mouse is not longer upon the creative.
o A sound icon must always be present in the creative.
