A note from the Principal
Welcome to the Clairgate Chronicle for Week 6,
Term 2, 2016
Clairgate Shines at the District Cross Country Carnival
– we came 2nd – a brilliant effort!
Congratulations to all our District Cross Country
competitors last Thursday. The day was a very
successful day for all children with everyone running
at top speed! Mr Blanch, Ms Paulic and Mrs Roberts
said they were so proud of our students who all tried
their very best and had their amazing Clairgate
manners evident – well done! This year we have an
outstanding 7 competitors going to the Regional
Carnival at Eastern Creek – good luck to them. Huge
thanks to Mr Blanch, Ms Paulic and Mrs Roberts.
Care, Excellence, Innovation, Opportunity
in a positive, dynamic environment

Civic Reception for our School Captains
Last Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of
attending the Mayoral Civic Reception to celebrate
School Leaders in the Penrith area. Both our School
Captains – Abby Hona and Billy Kulmar received
Leadership Certificates from the Penrith Mayor –
Councillor Karen McKeown. This was a prestigious
event with both public and private schools
represented. Well done to both our captains and their
families.
Disco Dancers
Last Wednesday we also held a fantastic Disco to raise
money for the Year 6 Farewell. Congratulations to all
our students who came and danced the entire time –
you were all so well behaved. Congratulations to
Mrs Thurling – our DJ extraordinaire – and of course
to all the teachers who helped make this such a great
afternoon/evening. Thanks to our P&C volunteers who
helped as well.
Debating Success
Our amazing debaters shone at their first debate on
Tuesday. Congratulations to Taleeya Ilagan,
Sarah Selfe, Jemma Benson, Billy Kulmar and
Jodie Borg for their excellent effort in this debate. The
topic was “That primary school children should learn
an Asian language at school.” Our team was the
negative side so they had to argue against this topic.
The difficult thing about this debate was that the
children had to plan everything themselves. They
received the topic one hour before the debate and
were not able to look up any information on the
internet – they had to plan, prepare and practise their
arguments all in one hour – without any teacher input.
What a difficult job – well done to all! Congratulations
also to their amazing debating coach, Mrs Thurling,
who has spent hours working with the debating team,
encouraging them and teaching them excellent
strategies for this type of debate.
Pyjamas Everywhere!
How warm were we today! Thanks to everyone who
participated in our Pyjama Mufti Day today – we
raised over $400 to help those with Cystic Fibrosiswell done to all and a special thank you to
Kirstyn Laws for her help with this fundraiser.
Newsletter Day
We hope you like our new look Newsletter. From this
issue onwards the Newsletter will be distributed on
Wednesdays.
News from the Office
Dear Parents and Carers,
The office is about to embark on some significant IT
changes over the next several months. The first of
these changes will commence on June 14th. You
would have received a hot pink note home earlier in
the week regarding the new payment method POP
(Parents Online Payment) which is now available for
use. It is very similar to lots of online banking sites
and we would like to encourage you to give it a try, if
you have any questions or problems please contact
the office for assistance.
The next of these major changes will be Clairgate
transitioning to the new NSW public schools’ finance
system and a new bank account on 5 September
2016.
To ensure a smooth transition, there will be changes
to the way we accept parent or carer payments.
We will be unable to accept any EFTPOS, cash, cheque
or online POP payments from Saturday, 27th August
until Monday, 5th September, 2016. Please ensure
that you have made any outstanding payments prior
to this date. We will send out details of any
outstanding invoice amounts prior to these dates.
From Tuesday 6th September payments will be
accepted as before.
From Week 8 this term you may notice that Cheryl
and I will be missing from the office on Thursdays and
Fridays for approximately 10 weeks, while we attend
training for the new system. In our absence the office
will be run by Jenny Doughty and Rebecca Day. Thank
you for your patience and understanding as we
transition to our new finance system. If you have any
questions, please contact myself or Mrs Lawrow.
Regards,
Gail Makaruk
School Administrative Manager
Thanks everyone, hope you have a great fortnight.
