Every Feast is unique and special and
this year we celebrate our 19th-year
championing diversity and inclusion through
Queer art and culture.
I would like to welcome our new principal
partner Bank SA. This new partnership will
have a positive impact to our Festival and
community, and for many years to come. I
would also like to acknowledge the support
of the State Government through Arts SA
and Events South Australia and thank all
our wonderful partners for supporting
Feast. This support helps build and grow the
Festival year after year.
24 PLANNER
It is such a privilege to have so many
wonderful local and national artists
performing over the 15 days and I feel
honoured that Feast is the first Queer
festival in Australia to have International
2014 Eurovision Winner, Conchita Wurst
performing and inspiring us during her time
in Adelaide.
This year's theme - "Come as you are", is
about being welcome, being yourself and
feeling comfortable, safe and supported
through a rich and diverse Arts Festival. I
encourage you to immerse yourself in Feast.

WWW.FEAST.ORG.AU Come as you are, Feasters. As this year’s
theme, we want our community’s diversity
and inclusion celebrated and recognised and
more importantly we want all of you to be
proud of who you are. Feast Festival always
delivers on its celebration of diversity and
we want you to enjoy it through the plethora
of queer art and culture we have to offer
this year. Having one of the world’s most
recognisable LGBTIQ advocates, Conchita
Wurst, celebrate Feast with us this year
signifies how important and how far the
Festival has come in 19 years.
Our LGBTIQ community and allies are our
bedrock and I thank all that have contributed
to making Feast the inclusive and dynamic
organisation it has become. Feast is not
dominated by any particular cluster within
our community in 2015 and I encourage all
those that have previously been engaged
in Feast to continue to look towards our
20th year for what will undoubtedly be a
wonderful and outstanding celebration of
inclusion and diversity.

message of support
THE HON.
JAY WEATHERILL
Find the street that’s
right up your alley.
THE HON.
JACK SNELLING MP
Premier of
South Australia
Minister for the Arts
The 2015 Feast Festival promises to be an
exciting fortnight of entertainment and a
spirited celebration of – and by – the LGBTIQ
community.
The Adelaide Feast Festival is such an
important part of Adelaide’s cultural calendar,
providing one of Australia’s largest LGBTIQ Arts
festivals.
In particular, Adelaide is honoured to be
hosting a visit by the 2014 Eurovision Winner,
Conchita Wurst, and I look forward to seeing
her at her first-ever Australian performance.
I would like to welcome Michael Griffiths as the
Artistic Ambassador, and thank the members
of the Artistic Committee- Troy-Anthony Baylis,
Fanny Jacobson, Will Sergeant, Mandahla Rose,
Leighton Jacques, Alex Schulz and Elizabeth
Munn, for their input to this year’s fantastic
artistic program.
We in the South Australian Government
strongly support Feast because it adds to
our reputation as the festival State, it fosters
respect and diversity and – through initiatives
like the Feast Scholarship and the Drop-In
Centre – it practically supports members of
the LGBTIQ community doing it tough.
Have a great time!
I would also like to thank new major Sponsor,
Bank SA, for their support of this year’s festival.
The Feast Festival will see the West End of
Adelaide again transformed into an incredibly
rich and diverse artistic space, adding to the
vibrancy of our wonderful city.
Whether you’re from interstate, overseas, or a
local, I hope you enjoy this year’s program.
THE RIGHT HON.
MARTIN HAESE
MICHAEL
GRIFFITHS
LORD MAYOR
Welcome to the City of Adelaide for the
2015 Feast Festival, which carries the
theme ‘Come as you are’.
Adelaide is becoming one of the most
inclusive, creative cities in the world. Not
only is this good for the gay community, it’s
vital to the competitiveness of our city. The
Feast Festival supports this goal absolutely.
This year I’m pleased to see the Feast
Festival Hub located in the courtyard of
the Lions Art Centre. This setting is in the
heart of the West End’s arts district and is
surrounded by high quality venues.
The Feast Festival encourages every sector
of the community to share in a range of
artistic experiences. I hope you all get
involved and enjoy everything on offer.
Feast Ambassador
I’m absolutely delighted to be working
with Feast after two years having a ball
performing cabaret in the programme. As
Ambassador I’ve been spreading the word
about our vibrant festival on my travels
far and wide and encouraging first time
Feasters to join us for 16 days of storytelling,
laughter, discussion and celebration.
Feast continues to be a unique platform for
local queer artists to engage with a wider
audience and for the broader community
to connect though free events like Queer
Living Books, live music at Queer Station
and talks in the Feast Lounge. As a global
superstar and figure of hope, Conchita
Wurst’s first Australian performance is not
only an extraordinary coup for Feast, but
for all of Adelaide that is without a doubt
Australia’s premiere Festival destination. I
can’t wait to see you there.
Happy Feast!

THE HON.
LEON BIGNELL MP
Minister for Tourism
The Feast Festival is a highlight of the
South Australian events calendar. Since
the Festival’s inception in 1997, it has
grown to become our largest queer art and
cultural event, celebrating the diversity and
acceptance of the community. This year,
Feast welcomes Eurovision winner Conchita
Wurst as the headline act, which I am sure
you’ll agree, will be a wonderful experience.
We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to
fantastic restaurant and café strips in Adelaide.
Our city offers a smorgasbord of options where
we can step out and enjoy a magic evening
with friends.
Find the magic, and a great meal, in Adelaide.
I encourage visitors from interstate and
overseas to get out and enjoy Adelaide and
the regions. Explore our vibrant small bar
scene and enjoy tours of our city. Enjoy
our premium food and wine at the Adelaide
Central Market, our local wineries or visit
McLaren Vale or the Barossa for a taste of
the regions.
Welcome to Adelaide. I hope you enjoy all
the Feast Festival and South Australia have
to offer.
CONCHITA
WURST
Feast International
Ambassador
It’s a great honour to be invited to the 2015
edition of the Feast Festival and I am very
excited to celebrate diversity and queer
culture in Adelaide with many people from
Australia and abroad.
In Australia - just like my home country Austria
– the LGBTIQ community is allowed to express
themselves freely and through their chosen
lifestyle. But let’s not forget that while we’re
celebrating progress in a growing number of
countries around the world, there are people
who need our support because they live in
one of too many places where inequity is more
common than equality, where discrimination
affects people more than inclusion, and where
anti-gay laws are in place. Let’s make sure we
show them our support and let them know we
did not forget about them so they can soon live
a life of freedom too.
I look forward to returning to Australia to join
all of you in Adelaide so we can celebrate with
pride at Feast Festival!

THE STORY OF MY LIFE
JOLIE: MY PEROGATIVE
The Devil Wears
Leigh Buchanan
KITSCH IN SYNCH: A DERANGED
DOMESTIC DRAG DRAMA
Davine Interventionz Productions presents the Australian premiere of the
Broadway Musical THE STORY OF MY LIFE.
Mr Boylesque S.A is a triple threat underground artist. Exclusively
at Feast in a spectacle of live singing, dancing and raw theatre, his
prerogative is to put on an epic show! With a dark underlined tribute
to his friend who died from the AIDS virus and a dedication to historic
figures who shaped the community to fight for a brighter future. For
one night only Jolie presents a powerful and colourful show.
Project Runway Runner-up Leigh Buchanan, in his hysterical hit cabaret
that seamlessly (pun intended) celebrates the colourful story of his
life through heart-rending song and hilarious stories from his journey
through rags-to-riches beginnings to the D-grade celebrity he is today.
Welcome to the zany, madcap world of a paranoid post-modern
perfectionist housewife – Don't forget to wipe your shoes! Drag
Performer Polly Filla portrays a happy housewife in 'Kitsch In Synch',
which comically explores the many multi-coloured moods of the
everyday housewife in her endless quest for domestic perfection while
her world slowly unravels. 'Kitsch In Synch' pokes fun at the absurdity of
an individual trying to conform to a world they do not fit in to, and what
could happen if they are pushed over the edge.
A tale of two childhood friends, and the relationship which profoundly defines
their lives, this musical follows the lifelong friendship between Thomas Weaver, a
best-selling, award-winning author and Alvin Kelby, his best friend of thirty years.
But even the closest camaraderie can be tested, and when the bonds of this
friendship reach breaking point, Thomas calls on the only resource he has - his
memories of Alvin’s friendship. This richly melodic musical is a soaring tribute
to the power of friendship and an ode to the people we meet who change our
lives forever. It is a reminder that love isn’t always straightforward. Presented with
Auslan interpretation at Star Theatre One for 5 performances only.
Recipient of the Gold Feast Foundation Scolarship
You'll be laughing and begging for more, after hearing the sharp-tongued
socialite tell his scandalous secret involving two of Australia’s most iconic
personalities while proving that even cheeky little devils can have an
angelic heart of gold – SOLID GOLD (and Swarovski crystal)
Leigh Buchanan was the first runner-up on Australia’s reality TV program
Project Runway Australia; Host of Nova's “Camp as Tits” with Meshel
Laurie; appearances on Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight; 'extra' in

With the explosion of interest in the experiences of young people
in schools, it was only a matter of time until we turned our eyes to
the experiences of LGBTIQ teachers. This performance animates
transcripts from real-life teachers that ask audiences to critically
consider the ‘performance’ of being an LGBTIQ teacher in today’s
schools. Using the metaphor of paper airplane flight, which models
and mobilizes efforts to move bodies and identities “heavier than
air,” this performance highlights how LGBTIQ teachers remain
spectral/partial figures in schools that refuse to invite our ‘whole
selves’ in.
Hiroto travels the world as a speaker, business coach, lecturer
for the Human Rights Education Team in Yoshinokawa, Japan
and is chairman of Japan GID Friends, supporting people with
Gender Identity Disorder. Join him for an intimate hour as he
shares his inspiring life journey from being born a girl in Kobe
City, Japan through to his struggles with gender identity and
ultimate empowerment through public speaking and personal
transformation. A special event not to be missed.

with a convivial, bubbly libation.
The work, which employs painting and drawing techniques, is at
the same time visceral and highly controlled studies of same-sex

to find out what went wrong. He hopes
that he will be able to perfect his flaws
and find ‘the one’, he just needs to weed
through the couple hundred ‘ones’ he

The Sparrow Men is a totally improvised
snap shot of the lives of real characters,
their relationships, and the world they
inhabit. With only a suggestion from

contemporary theatre fluctuates between
comedic, sentimental, light hearted and
dramatic. Every show is a totally unique,

ACACIA QUARTET & LYLE CHAN:
AN AIDS ACTIVIST’S MEMOIR IN MUSIC
Presented by the Adelaide Festival Centre, Lyle Chan is an AIDS
activist and composer and his passions are beautifully interwoven in
An AIDS Activist’s Memoir in Music. The Acacia Quartet perform this
emotionally powerful music, with narration by Chan, giving a truly
moving insight into AIDS activism.
Written in the crisis years 1991-1996, but completed 20 years
later, this work is agitated and tender, humorous and moving.
Containing portraits of famous activist friends now dead, it traces
personal and historical episodes in the fight against AIDS, including
demonstrations by direct action protest group ACT UP, of which
Chan was a core member.
BEING CONCHITA: WE ARE
UNSTOPPABLE, BOOK SIGNING
Exploration of a LesbianCentric Universe
ARIA-nominated string quartet, Acacia Quartet has earned
consistent critical acclaim for their performances of this work.
When Conchita stormed to victory in 2014's Eurovision Song Contest,
her winning words "We are unity and we are unstoppable" were
a pointed riposte to overt Russian hostility and Eastern European
homophobia and a watershed moment for LGBTIQ campaigners.
Susan Hawthorne’s poetry explores a lesbian-centric universe. In this
free event, she discusses the source of her poetic inspiration and
shows photographs taken during two residencies — in India, where
she wrote Cow (2011), and Rome, where she wrote Lupa and Lamb
(2014).
‘Sometimes words can fail to adequately describe what one
witnesses...’ The Age
Q & A with Lyle Chan following the performance.
Tickets starting from $35 (Ages 12+)
Thurs 19th Nov, 7pm (2hrs)
Dunstan Playhouse, Adelaide Festival Centre, Festival Drive, Adelaide
Her victory stirred massive support right across the continent in the
gay community and beyond. Conchita’s inspirational book is the full
story from rural childhood to recording artist, Gaultier Couture model
and cultural icon.
In Cow, through the character of Queenie, a cow of many talents,
Susan delves into the ancient and modern traditions that intersect
lesbians and cows.
Join Conchita for this very special literary event with ABC 891
presenter and Sunday Mail columnist Peter Goers for an hour of in
depth conversation and reflection on an extraordinary life. Conchita
will read excerpts and sign copies of her highly anticipated book.
Strictly limited numbers, this event will sell out!
In Lupa and Lamb she takes the hand of Curatrix, collector of ancient
artefacts and lost text. Lesbian history is full of stories of resistance.
From the retellings of the she-wolf’s story to the martyrs who resisted
rape, torture and death, Susan Hawthorne depicts a millennia-long
resistance to the expectations of patriarchal culture.

ADELAIDE HILLS WONDERLANDS
This acclaimed interactive theatre show focuses on homophobia in high
schools. It is presented by award winning theatre Company ActNow.
Speak Out explores homophobia, its effect on young people and provides
opportunities to explore strategies to respond. First the audience
watches the performance without interruption. Then they are given
the opportunity to interrupt the repeat performance and change the
outcome. This forum theatre technique offers a sense of rehearsal for
the real world. It empowers communities and individuals to take positive
action when dealing with social issues. High school students, parents,
family and friends are invited to this free thought provoking and inclusive
community performance.

flying the rainbow flag
FLYING THE RAINBOW FLAG
We wrote to every mayor and CEO in every municipal council in South
Australia inviting them to show their support for LGBTIQ people and
their families living in their community. We asked them to actively
contribute to the health and well-being of the whole community
by flying the rainbow flag for the duration of the Feast Festival,
November 14-29.
2015 saw heightened media attention around councils deciding to
fly or not fly the flag, Feast sees the program as a symbolic way in
which councils can help celebrate the Festival state-wide, as well
as publicly acknowledging their council’s role in promoting and
celebrating diversity.
Last year 13 councils participated. This year we are pleased to announce
that we have 17 municipal councils participating! The Berri Barmera
Council and Kangaroo Island Council are also supporting the program in
other creative ways – this is encouraged for all Councils. Feast also asked
businesses in Rundle Mall, along Hindley Street, Grote Street, Gouger
Street and Morphett Street to fly/display the rainbow flag too, with
many joining in the celebration of diversity during Feast Festival.
