Hallo Laserdisc- und DVD-Fans,
liebe Filmfreunde!
Große Ereignisse werfen wieder einmal
ihre Schatten voraus. Denn einmal
mehr dreht die Schauburg in Karlsruhe
das Rad der Zeit zurück und lädt vom
7.-8. Juni 2008 zum ersten “Widescreen
Festival” ein. Anders als das bereits
fest etablierte “Todd-AO 70mm Filmfestival” im Oktober wird das
“Widescreen Festival” von nun an
jährlich anderen Breitfilmformaten als
Todd-AO gewidmet sein. Das Motto in
LASER HOTLINE
diesem Jahr lautet “In CinemaScope,
Technicolor und stereophonischem
Magnetton”. Zur Aufführung kommen
nicht weniger als neun 35mm
CinemaScope Technicolor Kopien aus
den Anfangsjahren der CinemaScopeÄra. Alle Kopien sind in den Farben
komplett erhalten, besitzen 4-Kanal
Stereo Magnetton und sind deutsch
synchronisiert. Es bietet sich hier die
einzigartige Möglichkeit, Filme wie
DAS GEWAND, DEMETRIUS UND DIE
GLADIATOREN oder DER REBELL
IHRER MAJESTÄT so zu sehen, wie
sie von ihren Schöpfern konzipiert wurden. Selbstverständlich werden wir uns
dieses Vergnügen nicht entgehen lassen. Wer weitere Details zum Festival
wissen möchte, der darf sich gerne an
uns wenden oder die Schauburg in
Karlsruhe direkt kontaktieren. Vielleicht

Superheld und Junkie
Wieder einmal ein volles Programm in
dieser Woche...
IRON MAN (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Robert Downey Jr. schlüpft in die Rolle
des Helden in einer Comic-Verfilmung
nach Stan Lee. Und die läuft leider nur
nach Schema ab. Immerhin sind die
Visual Effects allererste Sahne, speziell
dann, wenn unser Held sich einen
Schutzanzug „designed“. Echtes Popcorn-Kino mit guter Bildqualität, das
am 1. Mai an den Start geht.
THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE
(1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Der bessere Film am heutigen Tag! In
gewohnt gefühlvoller Manier
bringt Susanne Bier (NACH DER
HOCHZEIT) ihre Story an den
Zuschauer. Benicio del Toro als Junkie
und Halle Berry als junge Witwe
und Mutter zweier Kids brillieren in
ihren Rollen. Trotz CinemaScope
setzt Frau Bier wieder auf extreme
Close Ups und bleibt so bei ihren Protagonisten ganz nah dran. Intimität vom
Feinsten. Warnung: anstelle von Popcorn lieber ein Taschentuch mit ins
Kino nehmen. Ab 29. Mai überall.

Am heutigen Dienstag standen
Hochzeitsromanzen ziemlich hoch im
Kurs... Man merkt es deutlich: der
Wonnemonat Mai steht vor der Tür!
MADE OF HONOR (VERLIEBT IN DIE
BRAUT) (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Patrick Dempsey in der Rolle der Brautjungfer bei der Hochzeit seiner besten
Freundin - bis er endlich merkt, dass
eigentlich er verrückt nach ihr ist.
Eine Hollywoodromanze nach bekanntem Strickmuster, aber trotzdem durchaus gefällig. Grandios: das Setting in
den schottischen Highlands! Passend
zum Film sollte dann echter schottischer Malt Whiskey serviert werden.
Kinostart: 15. Mai.
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS... (LOVE
VEGAS) (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Der weniger erträgliche Film am heutigen Tag. Kein Wunder: Cameron Diaz
dreht wieder vollkommen durch! Ty-
LASER HOTLINE
pisch amerikanisch auch dieser Film,
der allerdings etwas seichter daherkommt als MADE OF HONOR und
auch kaum Platz lässt für wahre Gefühle. Allenfalls als Pausenfüller zu empfehlen. Kinostart: 8. Mai.

Ein tolles Stück Kino
Auch der Donnerstag hatte ein Double
Feature im Gepäck.
DER WEISSE MIT DEM SCHWARZBROT (1:1.85, DVD, Stereo)
Ein deutscher Dokumentarfilm über den
Schauspieler und EX-RAF-Mann
Christof Wackernagel, der jetzt im afrikanischen Mali lebt. Ein interessantes
Porträt über einen Naivling, der immer
gerne etwas bewirken möchte. Muss
man nicht unbedingt gesehen habe und schon gar nicht von DVD. Ab 12.
Juni im Kino.
THE BANK JOB (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Seid Ihr auf der Suche nach einem richtig guten Krimi? Hier ist er! Ein toller
Film über einen Bankraub im London
der 70er-Jahre. Und das auch noch
nach einer wahren Begebenheit. Spannend inszeniert und mit einer überzeugenden Besetzung. Würde eigentlich
optimal ins Fantasy Filmfest passen,
wird aber schon zuvor ins Kino gebracht. Start ist der 12. Juni.

Woody wieder ernst
Zum Wochenausklang gab es eine Einladung von Woody.... ;-)
CASSANDRA’S DREAM
(CASSANDRAS TRAUM) (1:1.85, DD
5.1)
Einmal mehr interessierte sich Woody
Allen für einen ernsten Krimi. Darin
spielen Ewan McGregor und Colin
Farrell zwei Brüder, die im Auftrag
ihres reichen Onkels dessen Widersacher beseitigen sollen, um so selbst
wieder ihrer finanziellen Not zu entrinnen. Ein hevorragend gespielter,
kammerspielartiger Kriminalfilm, dessen
Thema Schuld ist. Vornehmlich an etwas heruntergekommenen Locations in
London gedreht (Kamera: Vilmos
Zsigmond) und - für Woody untypisch
- unter Verwendung eines Scores (Musik: Philip Glass) erreicht der Film leider
nur bedingt die Qualität von MATCH
POINT. Aber entscheidet selbst ab 5.
Juni - im Kino.

Zombieesker Burt
Zum Wochenbeginn leichte Kost...
DEAL (ALL IN - ALLES ODER
NICHTS) (1:1.85, DD 5.1)
Wer Pokern langweilig findet, der wird
mit diesem Film die Bestätigung dafür
bekommen. Einfallslos inszeniert und
mit einem verdammt an LUCKY YOU
erinnernden Plot, versucht der Film
vergebens, seine Zuschauer 83 Minuten lang zu unterhalten. Richtig amüsant ist Burt Reynolds in der Rolle als
alter Zocker. Nicht sein Alter ist es, das
ihn nur langsame Bewegungen machen
lässt, sondern vermutlich mehr das
Toupet und sein geliftetes Gesicht
(echtes Pokerface!), die keine schnellen
Bewegungen überleben würden. Ab 12.
Juni könnt Ihr es Euch im Kino anschauen.

Musik und Action
Es ist Dienstag - also Grund genug,
dass die Filme interessanter werden...
FALCO - VERDAMMT, WIR LEBEN
NOCH (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Sex, Drugs und österreichische RapMusik. Das kurze, wilde Leben des
Hans Hölzel alias Falco
zusammengefasst in einem Spielfilm. In
der Hauptrolle sehr gut besetzt (und
auch gesungen). Manchmal etwas zu
lange geraten. Eine für Falcoianer sicherlich sehenswerte Studie über die
Schattenseiten von Ruhm. Ab 5. Juni
bundesweit im Kino.
SPEED RACER (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Die neueste Bilderflut der WachowskiBrüder. Visuell brillant. Solch knallige
Farben habe ich zuletzt in einem
Bollywood-Film gesehen! Die Story
lässt den Betrachter allerdings ziemlich
kalt. Aber mal ganz ehrlich: was soll
man auch anderes vom Live-ActionRemake einer japanischen Animationsserie erwarten? In einer Digitalvorführung dürfte SPEED RACER ein optisches Knock-Out sein. Ab 8. Mai in

Atemberaubend
Das richtige Highlight der Filmwoche
gabe es heute...
sich auch die Tontechniker von ihrer
besten Seite und demonstrieren, was
man unter einem tollen Sounddesign
versteht. Ein Geheimtipp. Ab 19. Juni
2008 in den Kinos.

JULIA (1:2.35, DD 5.1)
Die Geschichte ähnelt ein bisschen der
von GLORIA, doch Hauptdarstellerin
Tilda Swinton sorgt durch ihre Tourde-Force-Performance dafür, dass man
stets mit ihr mitfiebert. In ihrer Rolle
als Alkoholikerin, die einen kleinen
Jungen kidnapped und sich dadurch in
schier unlösbare Probleme verstrickt,
überzeugt sie von der ersten bis zur
letzten Sekunde. Unglaublich spannend: die geplante Lösegeldübergabe
in einer Busstation. Da präsentieren

Rückkehr der Screwball Comedy
Zum Wochenausklang gab es Leichtverdauliches...
LEATHERHEADS (EIN VERLOCKENDES SPIEL) (1:1.85, DD 5.1)
Hauptdarsteller und Regisseur George
Clooney versucht sich an einer Komödie, die sichtlich an die Screwball-Komödien der 30er- und 40er-Jahre anknüpfen möchte. Mit seiner Gegenspie-
lerin Renee Zellweger liefert er sich
auch ein paar hübsche Rededuelle und
versteht sich bestens auf das Zeitkolorit der 20er-Jahre mitsamt Sepiatönung, kann aber trotzdem einfach
nicht richtig überzeugen. Vermutlich
liegt’s am Drehbuch. Auf jeden Fall
erwähnenswert bleiben die
Kameraarbeit von Newton Thomas
Sigel und die Filmmusik von Randy
Newman (auch wenn es nicht seine
beste Arbeit ist). Leider gab es bei der
heutigen Vorführung ein tontechnisches Problem, das zumindest
meinen Höreindruck geschmälert hat.
Aber wen interessiert das schon... ;-) .
Den Film gibt’s ab 6. Juni 2008
in den Kinos (FSK-Freigabe: ab 6 Jahren).

played by Emile Hirsch (LORDS OF DOGTOWN). Truelove
is a wild 18-year-old who deals drugs for a living and hangs
out with his posse, who revolve around a core of Frankie

Mazursky (Ben Foster), is unable to pay off his crystal-meth

in his own abduction. Indeed, Zack positively revels in his
new position, and lives it up with the boys at every
opportunity he gets. But Cassavetes’s film really revs into
gear as the cops close in on Truelove’s band of outsiders, and
they face a tough decision about what to do with Zack.

Music-video-director-turned-auteur Michel Gondry continues
to charm with his low-tech offering, BE KIND REWIND. Set
in dreary Passaic, New Jersey, the comedy centers on two of
the town’s residents: trouble-making Jerry (Jack Black) and
well-meaning Mike (Mos Def). Mike works in a video store in
an age where the VHS is long dead, but the store’s owner,
Mr. Fletcher (Danny Glover), doesn’t seem to be in any hurry
to change. When Mr. Fletcher leaves town for a trip, he
entrusts his store to Mike with one piece of advice: don’t let
Jerry in the store. But after some mischief, Jerry returns to
the store in a strange state. Not only is he weirder than usual,
