On!Thursday,!October!10,!the!Pewee!Valley!Fire!District!Board!of!Trustees!gave! approval!to!proceed!with!the!building!of!a!new!Fire!Station,!(Station!#2).!!!The!new!! Fire!House!will!serve!growing!communities!in!Western!Shelby!County!including! Persimmon!Ridge,!and!the!Overlook!as!well!as!work!in!support!of!the!main!Fire! House,!(Station!#1)!in!Pewee!Valley.!!! ! The!new!station!will!be!located!on!Ash!Avenue!in!Shelby!County!just!east!of!the! Kentucky!Correctional!Institution!for!Women!(KCIW).!The!five!acres!of!land!where! the!station!will!be!built!was!previously!part!of!the!KCIW!and!donated!to!the!Pewee! Valley!Fire!District!by!the!commonwealth!of!Kentucky.!! !! “The!new!fire!station!will!certainly!give!us!better!response!times!and!added! protection!for!our!citizens!in!that!part!if!our!jurisdiction,”!said!Fire!Chief!Bob! Hamilton.!The!Pewee!Valley!Fire!District!has!all!volunteer!firefighters!and!it!will!be! vital!to!recruit!new!members,!especially!from!that!part!of!Shelby!county.!!! ! E!H!Construction,!LLC,!Shepardsville!,!Ky.!!a!full!service!general!contracting!firm!was! selected!!to!execute!the!project!.!E!H!has!a!great!deal!of!experience!in!the!building!of! fire!stations!and!other!similar!buildings!throughout!Kentucky!and!Indiana.!!The!cost! of!the!new!fire!station!will!be!slightly!less!than!$1.6!million.!!The!funding!for!this! project!will!come!from!reserves!set!aside!by!the!Pewee!Valley!Fire!district!in! anticipation!of!this!project,!as!well!as!securing!a!loan!for!the!balance.!!The!payments! on!this!loan!have!been!anticipated!and!budgeted.!The!start!of!the!project!will!begin! immediately!and!should!be!completed!within!nine!months.! ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! Complete!Kitchen! ! Six!dorm!rooms!on!second!floor/!Men’s!and!Women’s!showers! ! Laundry!room! ! ! The!Pewee!Valley!Fire!District!primary!services!areas!including!the!city!of!Pewee! Valley,!in!Oldham!County,!areas!in!Western!Shelby!County!including!Persimmon!
