The School Improvement Team consists of a core group of teachers and parents, who have a
commitment to make Gerisch Middle School the best it can be. In addition to this core group,
others have joined to work on specific issues that have a special interest to them. Goals for the
08/09 school year were to develop an action plan of implementation for the following goals:
1. All students will increase their fluency in reading and comprehension in multiple genres.
2. All students will increase skills in the area of numbers and operations.

Status of K-12 Core Curriculum for Southgate Community School District
The process of developing an aligned K-12 Core Curriculum has been completed. Grade level
expectations for all students K-12 have been correlated with Michigan State Standards
Benchmarks, and Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) under the Curriculum
Frameworks. State and local assessments are aligned with the benchmarks and content
expectations. Instruction is driven by data provided with various assessments through Data
Teams. This document will compare grades 7 and 8 proficiency in reading, writing, and
mathematics in addition to the 6 and 7 grade reports. Due to early fall testing, 6th grade scores
reflect learning increases from 5th grade, 7th grade scores reflect learning increases from 6th
grade, and 8th grade scores reflect learning increases from 7th grade.
