Justin Moose 390 Yard Blast Earns Tennessee Shoot-Out Title
T
he 2013 Laughlin Memorial Hospital Long Drive win was the
first ever for Pennsylvania native Justin Moose, shown at left.
Moose gripped his 50-inch driver and ripped the ball 390 yards
down the middle of the 512-yard fairway at Graysburg Hills’ first hole
to win the tournament and the $12,000 payday that came with it.

LHCF Receives Grant from Komen
Tri-Cities Affiliate
T
he Tri-Cities Affiliate of Susan G.
Komen for the Cure® has awarded a
$27,750 grant to LHCF to provide 200 free
screening mammograms for women in
Greene County who qualify for the services, and to continue “Tell your Mom,
Save a Life….AND MORE,” a program in
five high schools in Greeneville and Greene
County to educate young women and men
about breast cancer.
Applications are available at the Greene
County Health Department, in the main
lobby of Laughlin Memorial Hospital,
Laughlin Center for Women’s Health, and
at www.laughlinmemorial.org. Individuals
who qualify should respond to the application and deliver it to the Greene County
Health Department.
Hugh Wells Honored with “Book of
Golden Deeds” Award
H
2013 Visual Clinic
ugh Wells is a true giant of a man.
He was a highly-respected Chief of
Police of Greeneville; served the community through GreenBank, where he was
named vice-president for Agriculture
Lending; was a founding member of
Laughlin Health Care Foundation where he
remains active in the organization that he
chaired for two terms. Hugh has been a
member of the Exchange Club of Greeneville since 1956 and served in uncountable
organizations that spans a lifetime. In her
remarks about Hugh, Exchange Club president, Paige Mengel, after citing a long list
of his accomplishments, used a quote from
Chuck Whitfield, president and CEO of
Laughlin Memorial Hospital:
“Every
organization needs a Hugh Wells.”
T
wo female recipients are shown selecting frames from hundreds of selections
available at the Visual Clinic. Shown assisting them are, left to right, long-time volunteers John Clester, Jimmy Coffee, and Frank
Adkins.
The program provided care for approximately 85 individuals, with a value of
$42,500.
This visual clinic is made possible by funds
from the Blanche W. Grady Community
Service Award and is in partnership with
local eye physicians, the Health Department,
and community and out-of-state volunteers.
The Scott M. Niswonger Family is benefactor of this fund.
Drs. Brad Emde and Shelly Shaw, East
View Eye Care, co-chaired the visual clinic.

The Tree of Life: the beautiful
tree sculpture, located on the
main lobby’s wall, serves as a
vehicle to recognize major
donors to the Laughlin Health
Care Foundation. Tom Gregory
(above) served as emcee of the
event. This is the third celebration to add new or update names
of donors to the tree.
Dr. Doug Cobble & Dr. Walter Ashe
LMH Main Lobby was celebrated at the reception. (Photo
above.) The update was coordinated by the Laughlin Memorial
Hospital Volunteers, which
included refreshing the lobby
area with handsome, new furniture and flooring. Additionally, a
subtle use of wall covering
proved to be an attractive background for the project.
The Hite Family
Kind words about our
Grief Support Program,
Celebrate Life:
“Having just completed the
grief program sponsored
by the Laughlin Health
Care Foundation, I want to
thank you and the Foundation for providing such a
worthwhile program. Grief
specialist, Joyce Daniels, is
a magnificent person to
have conducting these
sessions. She has a unique
way of getting all of us
talking through our very
difficult situations.” ….”It
helps in such a life changing time to know that there
are others who do fully
understand what is happening to you and that you
are not alone.”….”You
made my daily walk just a
little easier.”
Dr. Nathan P. Horner’s Tie Legacy Lives On
I
LAUGHLIN HEALTH
CARE FOUNDATION
n addition to being one of the finest physicians and
gentleman in this area, Dr. Nathan P. Horner took
great pride in his collection of colorful ties. Those ties
were used to develop an extremely handsome quilt
designed and crafted by a multitude of caring friends
and caregivers, with his loving wife, Helen, at the
forefront of the project. The queen-size quilt was
auctioned to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The LMH Board of Directors purchased the quilt.
The quilt captures the essence of a genteel man who
won the hearts of his patients through his dedication to
“best practices” in medicine and his loving manner.
Dr. Nathan P. Horner, forever honored as a truly great
physician, practiced medicine for 57 years in Greeneville, plus three years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.
