DAY 1
South Africa – Rome, Italy
Flight
Depart from Johannesburg on your overnight flight to Rome, Italy.
DAY 2
Arrive Rome, Italy
Activities
This morning, arrive in the heart of the Ancient Roman Empire, the centre of the Church - the Eternal
City – Rome.
Rome, the Eternal City has endured for over 2,800 years and has a history and an appeal like no other city in the
world. Rome is the capital of Italy, and its largest city. The mixture of the modern city and the plethora of
monuments, piazzas, villas, museums, churches, Egyptian obelisks, along with the Colosseum, the Forum and
Vatican City results in an epic, glorious ambience that will have you enthralled and mesmerised.
Arriving in this magnificent city, meet your guide at the airport before you transfer by coach to your
hotel and check in.
This afternoon you will have a guided half day tour of Ancient Rome that will include a visit and
entrance to the mighty Colosseum, and Roman Forum.
Built in 72 A.D, the Colosseum has remained the largest amphitheatre in the world and is considered to be Rome´s
most popular tourist attraction. Standing as the iconic symbol of Ancient Rome, this monument that once hosted
the inhuman ¨games¨ of man vs. beast, is considered a Modern day Wonder.
Conclude the day's sightseeing with an afternoon whistle-stop city tour including stops to see the
Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain

DAY 3
Rome
Activities
Breakfast at leisure
This morning we will enjoy a guided tour of the
Vatican City and the Vatican Museums, being
among the greatest museums in the world. We
will then see the Sistine Chapel, which has been
frescoed by the greatest Renaissance artists
including especially Michelangelo, and the
Basilica of St. Peter’s, the most renowned work
of Renaissance architecture and heart of Christian
culture in the world.
The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo,
forming part of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted circa 1511–
1512. It illustrates the Biblical creation narrative from the Book of
Genesis in which God breathes life into Adam, the first man. It is
the most well-known of the Sistine Chapel fresco panels, and its
fame as a piece of art is rivalled only by the Mona Lisa by
Leonardo da Vinci.
Rest of the day is at leisure. Keep exploring the city and its hidden
corners or visit typical local street markets or famous local
“Gelateria” Ice Cream shops.

DAY 4
Rome - Pisa
Activities
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and begin your journey up the spectacular Western Italian
coastline, through the breathtakingly beautiful Tuscany region, bound for Pisa.
Arrive in Pisa, in the heart of Italian Tuscany. This
wondrously beautiful region will take your breath away.
Enjoy some true Italian cuisine and move on to the worldfamous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is the campanile, of the cathedral of
the Italian city of Pisa, known worldwide for its unintended tilt to
one side. The top of the tower is 55.86m from the ground on the
low side and 56.70m on the high side, with 294 steps. Prior to
restoration work performed between 1990 and 2001, the tower
leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees, but the tower now leans at
about 3.99 degrees. This means that the top of the tower is
displaced horizontally 3.9m from where it would be if the
structure were perfectly vertical.

DAY 5
Pisa - Florence
Activities
Depart Pisa this morning and head through Tuscany on to the City of Lillies – Florence.
Arriving in this iconic city, a real treat awaits – a tour of the world-famous and arguably most important
after the Louvre – Uffizi Gallery.
With possibly the most comprehensive collection of art in the Western
Hemisphere after the Louvre, the Uffizi Gallery is one of the oldest and
most famous art museums in the world. With pieces by Giotto,
Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian and
Rembrandt, this special place is a must-see for any visitor to Florence.
After your tour of the Uffizi Gallery, transfer to the mathematically orientated Garden of Archimedes,
dedicated to this great mathematician.
The museum is divided into three sections or exhibitions, corresponding to three different ways of discovering
mathematics: Beyond compasses- the geometry of curves, Pythagoras and his theorem, centred on the essence of
play and a Bridge over the Mediterranean.
This evening, enjoy a twilight
walking tour of this historic city.
Veiw attractions including the
Duomo, the Baptistry, Giotto’s
Bell Tower, Piazza della Signoria

DAY 6
Florence
Activities
After breakfast this morning, a busy day awaits with a tour aptly titled In the Footsteps of Galileo.
Begin with a visit to the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory located just outside the centre of Florence,
on the same hill where Galileo Galilei spent, in forced exile, the last 11 years of his life making many of
his cosmological observations, namely the phases of Venus and the Galilean moons of Jupiter.
After exploring this early ‘House of Stars’, continue on to the Museo Galileo, a museum dedicated
exclusively to this famous astrophysicist and mathematician.
Among the more famous of its collections is the middle finger from the right hand of Galileo Galilei, which was
removed when Galileo's remains were transported to a new burial spot on April 12, 1737.
The museum features many artefacts from the 15th to 19th century, mostly pioneering scientific instruments
including world globes, stethoscopes, navigation instruments and telescopes with accompanying videos to the
exhibits.
Finally, end-off an enigmatic day of wonder and discovery with a visit to the stunningly beautiful
Church of Santa Croce the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo,
Galileo, Machiavelli, Foscolo, Gentile and Rossini, thus it is known also as the ‘Temple of the Italian
Glories’.

DAY 9
Milan – Chamonix - Geneva, Switzerland
Activities
After breakfast, check out and depart for
Geneva, Switzerland.
As the towering Alps mountain range looms
ever closer on your journey north, passage to
France seems impossible – until you arrive at
the foot of the highest mountain in the Alps:
Mont Blanc. There, as if by magic, another of
Man’s great achievements disappears into
the bedrock – The Mont Blanc Tunnel.
The Mont Blanc Tunnel is a road tunnel under the Mont Blanc mountain, linking France and Italy. It is one of the
major trans-Alpine transport routes reducing the route from France to Milan by 100 kilometres. At 11.6km long,
the tunnel is not horizontal, but in a slightly inverted "V". The tunnel consists of a single gallery with a two-lane
dual direction road.
Optional:
As soon as you passed through the tunnel you will stopover
in the small Alps town of Chamonix in France. Here you will
take a cable car ride up the Aiguille du Midi, a mountain in
the Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps for a spectacular
view of the Mont Blanc itself and the rest of France and
Switzerland.

booming industry.
Through interactive exhibitions and educational programmes, ICT Discovery takes you on a journey through the
th
connected world - from Mankind’s early need to communicate, through the rapid pace of invention during the 19
th
& 20 centuries, to our increasingly interconnected world of today and tomorrow - explaining how key
technologies work, alongside the role of ITU in connecting our world and facilitating the transformation of
people's lives globally.
This afternoon, round off an action-packed day with a visit to the famed CERN facility.
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and
engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the
world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic
constituents of matter – the fundamental particles. The particles are made to
collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists
clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the
fundamental laws of nature.
