657 Super Stock CR125 - Effective January 23, 2010 (Change Subsections
listed below as noted:)
657.1 Conditions and Specifications specific to this class:
657.1.1 This set of rules provides engine rules that can be used in
either Road Racing or Sprint.
657.1.2 Guidelines offered in these pages are subject to the term
"Spirit and Intent" and apply to the technical aspects of this
"Stock" shifter kart class. It is expected that all participants will
adhere to the spirit and intent of these rules. These are guidelines
for fair and equitable competition. They are not the basis to "read
between the lines" in order to circumvent the intent.
657.3 Cylinder and Top End: 1997-1999 cylinders are legal. No modification or machining of the cylinder is allowed such as porting,
adding or deleting ports, decking of top or bottom of cylinder, or
re-Nikasil. Cylinder mounting flanges may be spot faced in the
area where the nut meets the flange only. Some factory grinding
is performed prior to the Nikasil process on many cylinders. The
Technical Director reserves the right to disapprove any cylinder
supplied by Honda and not modified. Some OEM cylinders may
not be acceptable for IKF competition.
Cylinder length is 3.311 - 3.316.
Base gasket to be stock OEM 1999.
657.3.1 Exceptions: Stock power valves may be removed and after
market plugs used, with no filing, welding, or modifying of the
cylinder. The power valve actuator rod hole may be plugged.
OEM power valve covers may be replaced with aftermarket
plates.
657.3.2 Cylinder Head: Head must remain OEM with no modifications or machining of any kind. Head must fit factory profile
using the Shockwave "Stock CR125" profile gauge. Removal of
mounting boss and modifications to the water outlets, for the
purpose of hose connection, are allowed.
Head gasket must be stock OEM.
Squish or deck height measurement through the spark plug hole
will be a minimum of .050 thousandths, using .060 solder. This
is not intended to be a minimum or maximum dimension. This
dimension is a "quick" check to determine if any non-conforming
modifications are present.
657.3.4 Piston, Ring, Wristpin: Piston, ring, wristpin and upper
rod bearing must be stock OEM. No modifications of any kind.
Lapping the bottom of the ring is permitted.
657.5 Intake System:
657.5.3 Manifold and reeds: Intake manifold must be stock 1999
OEM CR125 (Honda Part Number 16221-KZ4-A10 - most are
marked KZM4) with no modifications. The reed cage must be
1999 CR125 (Honda Part Number 14100-KZ4-J11) After market
replacement reeds will be allowed, including mono reeds or
stiffeners. This only allows reeds that may be installed without
modification to the 1999 reed cage and does not permit multistage reeds.
657.6 Ignition System:
657.6.2 Flywheel: The stator and flywheel must be stock 1999
OEM. Only repairs approved by the Technical Director may be
done to the wiring. Stock flywheel key must remain in place
with no modifications. The left hand lower limiting plate on the
stator must be intact, with no modification. Either the factory
limiting plate or SKUSA limiting plate (available from SKUSA)
may be used. Machined aluminum stator slots, underneath
unmodified limiting plates, are allowed at this time. No modification to the hold down bolts is permitted. Static timing must be
controlled by the stock stator plate or the SKUSA plate. No modification to any of the components that change the static timing.
KARTER NEWS - may 2010
722.10.2.1 Valve Spring
Pre-Race Tech Procedure: A
quick field check can be
performed as shown below
using an inexpensive fish
scale. Hook the scale under
the rocker arm next to the
push rod and lift until the
valve opens and note the
reading on the scale. If the
springs appear to be much
over the 10.8 lbs @ .850” spec then the springs can be removed
from the head for a proper check.
657.7 Exhaust System:
657.7.1 Exhaust: Only the following exhausts are allowed. No
modification of any kind is permitted. Exhaust flange is open, but
must meet OEM length dimensions. No spacers allowed between
cylinder and exhaust flange except one OEM steel gasket.

NCK Road Racers Open the 2010 Season at
Infineon Raceway

he Northern California
Karters (NCK) opened it's
2010 season in grand style at
the famous Infineon Raceway
roadcourse Feb 13th. While
the preceding week was very
stormy and wet the weather
gods gave us a glorious day
on which to race.
Practice started in a slight
fog with a damp track surface.
The drivers in attendance
came from across the west
coast and did a great job of
staying on course and getting
their machines dialed in. Club
directors made a decision to
combine races one and two in
order to allow more practice
and also for the track to dry
completely. It was a good call
as by the end of practice the
sun shone brightly and most
all of the track had dried.
Race one started from a Le
Mans start in the hot pit. The group was led onto the track
by the wickedly fast 250 Unlimited class. Right behind them
was the biggest class in the field Super Stock Cr125 II (Stock
Moto). Also on the grid was a good number of TaGs along
with a couple other less participated classes. In the 250 class
John Stafford drove his beautifully prepared superkart away
from the field. John bested second place Ron Shaw by 54 seconds at the end. In Stock Moto Sonny VanHook seemed to
drive away from a very close battle for the other two steps
on the podium. In a class where close finishes are the norm
Sonny won by a 17 second margin at the flag. A more typical
Stock Moto battle to the line had Scott Beaudoin nipping Darrell Hulford for second place by .372 seconds with Eric Maxfield just missing out on the podium by .095. The Tag-E class
was all sit up sprinters this day and that race was won by
Terre Rothweiler over another tight battle for second which
went to Michael Grijalva who crossed the line just .007 in
front of 3rd place Dan Geil. Rothweiler's margin of victory
was 16 seconds. Other winners in race one were Don Shalla
in 80cc Senior, Jim White in 125/150 Open, Johnathon Shaw
in Formula 125 and Joe Beaudoin in TaG Light.
Next up was Yamaha Ltd Heavy sprinters along with the
ever entertaining World Formulas. The old master Ray Bobo
drove away from the field in his TII Yamaha powered chassis
to take the win followed by Terry Clauson and Ben French. In
KARTER NEWS - may 2010

the World Formula Medium race Taelor Janes took her novice
plate right to the front and held off Chris Abbas at the line by
.041 seconds. Brien Bluhm brought his machine home in 3rd.
Jim White took the win in Super Stock Sit-up.
The day’s third race was the first heat for NCK's West Coast
TaG FBO (front brake optional) class along with West Coast
80cc Sprint and TaG Heavy. As in the TaG-E class earlier
Terre Rothweiler once again showed his dominance by running away and taking the win by over 19 seconds. Another
close 3-way battle for 2nd to 4th came to the line with Bryant
12
Thomas sneeking through in second, Larry Stevens taking
3rd and Ray Chiappe just missing out in 4th. Don Shalla once
again took the 80 class. Dan Geil took the win over Joe Beaudoin in TaG Heavy. We also welcomed a new Junior driver
in this race. Welcome to Montgomery Gularte who ran in the
Junior 80 class.
Race four was the first heat for 250 ICE, and also the heat
race format for Super Stock CR125 along with Formula 125.
Just like the Unlimited race the ICE class was won by John
Stafford, besting Ron Shaw and 3rd place Herach Haroutunians. Stock Moto once again had Sonny VanHook take the win
only this time it was very close battle with Scott Beaudoin.
The margin of victory was a very close .019 seconds. Coming
home 3rd was Tony Rodriguez. Formula 125 saw Johnathon
Shaw take a convincing win with Chris Gazcol taking 2nd
and Jahan Mongul coming home 3rd.
Next up saw the Yamaha Ltd Light sprinters, World Formula Heavy, TaG-E II and NCK Super Sportsman. The Yamaha
class is seeing growth this year as several of the Super Sportsman racers put on a pipe and moved up in class. As in the
morning’s Heavy race Ray Bobo just drove off from the rest
of the Yamaha Ltd class to take the win. The second place
battle was nose to tail for most of the race. Billy and Cody
Howard along with Ryan Lee stayed together for much of
the race trading positions back and forth. Lee eventually fell
off the pace with tire issues leaving the Howards to battle it
KARTER NEWS - may 2010
out among themselves. Billy Howard eventually took second
just edging out Cody. Not a bad showing for their first time
out with a pipe on. The always close World Formulas put on
a great show with a tight 3 kart battle for the entire race. As
with the earlier race in the day Taelor Janes held off Chris
Abbas and Brien Bluhm with the 3 of them covered by just
.067 seconds at the line. Also in this race was Danny Chew in
NCK Super Sportsman Light. Danny had problems early in
the day but with the help of other racers Danny was able to
get on track and complete his first ever roadrace.
As the sun continued to warm the track the 2nd heat
for TaGs and 80's hit the grid. Terre Rothweiler completed
his sweep for the day with another convincing win in the
TaG FBO class. Terre won by 9 seconds over veteran Bryant
Thomas who once again just edged another veteran driver
Ray Chiappe by a little under .3 seconds. In the 80 class Richard Witschel kept Don Shalla from a perfect day by winning
this heat by over 12 seconds at the end. John Montes brought
his 80 home in 3rd. Joe Beaudoin took TaG Heavy switching
spots with Dan Geil from the earlier heat. Leo Montero won
in Rotax Max and our new junior racer, Montgomery Gularte,
also ran his 80 in his second heat.
The last activity of the day was Heat 2 for the Stock Moto's
and the 250 ICE karts. John Stafford completed his perfect
day by taking the 250 class again beating Ron Shaw as in
Heat 1. Herach Haroutunians brought his machine home in
3rd place. With the Heat 1 winner Sonny VanHook out with
mechanical problems, the Stock Moto battle this time came
down to 3 karts for the win. Tony Rodriguez took the win
after a great battle with Scott Beaudoin and Darrell Hulford.
The margin of victory was only .041 seconds back to BeauKARTER NEWS - may 2010
doin with Hulford .341 seconds behind that. Formula 125 had
Johnathon Shaw complete the sweep of both heats.
What looked to be a potential washout turned into a great
day of racing. For those who made the trip they were rewarded with fantastic racing conditions. The track was extremely
fast and good air led to many running some of their best times
ever at Infineon. The good air did catch a few out with their
tuning but most were very happy with their day. With the
early damp conditions these drivers showed tremendous skill
and patience as there were no accidents to speak of throughout the day. The medics didn't have to move all day. Towing
was kept to a minimum allowing for the day to move rapidly
with little if any downtime.
Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all the
competitors who participated.

he third round of the 2010
region 11 super series took
place at stockton Motorplex
in stockton, california. The
stockton facility is known for its fast
bullring type racing as well as its high
grip levels. weather played a major
role on the weekend, in the fact that
the practice and racing were dry, up
until just before the start of the mains
when Mother nature began to disperse heavy rain and wind, creating the

added obstacle for the drivers.
KId KARTS were first on the day
and hotshoe Zach corbitt continued his
dominate success in the series. perfect
on the year’s racing thus far, corbitt
again was poised to continue his success. Zach qualified fast lap running a
47.339, almost a two second gap on the
field. in the heat race corbitt jumped
to a quick lead, however late in the
race the driver on the move was MMi's
lizbeth calvo. spinning early on she
drove back up to fifth, and looked to
challenge corbitt. in the final corbitt
got the jump on the start and rolled to a
commanding victory 21 seconds ahead.
emmick cobra's stephon daniel was
second with lizbeth calvo third.
JuNIOR COMER was on track
and bordogna's nitro nick sommers
turned fast lap in qualifying with a
36.362. nitro nick was solid in the
heat race leading from the start and
cruising to an unchallenged victory
leaving competitors fighting for second. on the start of the final, nitro
nick hit a puddle and spun falling to
the tail end of the field. it was cambrian go-kart's Justin yanez, kartel's
Joseph larosa, and MMi's curt paul
fighting for the lead. no stranger to the
stockton Motorplex, curt paul grabbed
the lead around halfway, and held on
in the wet conditions for the win over
yanez. Magnum's Tyler burk came
home third.
JuNIOR SuPERPIPE had some
new faces. Jr raczko turned fast time
in qualifying with a 33.699. in the heat
race however it was all kartel's luis
Tyrrell with raczko having trouble. as
the final got underway Tyrrell looked
to have the rain setup and driving figured out as he pulled out to a big lead
early. The wet conditions saw Tyrrell
spin and give up the lead to raczko.
KARTER NEWS - mAy 2010
Tyrrell put his head down to run back
down the leader. luis pulled the trigger
with five to go and again ran away to
a big victory. post race tech saw Tyrrell
get removed for a pipe infraction, giving the lead to Jr raczko. chad cindell
finished second with Jacob huff third.
in the ShIFTER category MMi's
Jake vandrimmelen got the victory in
the senior division with Matt kattanek
getting the win in the Masters division. connor Mcniel edged out craig
davidson in a close race in the 4-cycle
division.
SENIOR SuPER PIPE showed talent and leading edge Motorsport's
brett felkins continues to run up front
in the class. felkins qualified with a
33.992 nearly a half second on the field.
felkins drove to an easy win in the heat
with ryan
r
casner showing some speed
late. on the start of the final felkins
jumped to a quick lead. casner didn't
make it back around after the second
lap and felkins cruised to the victory.
kartel's dylan albiani finished second
with extreme Motorsports brian gallagher third.
hPV-1 JuNIOR was next up and
bordogna's nitro nick was looking for
redemption after losing the win in the
comer category. nitro qualified fast
time with a 35.391 nearly a half second on the field. in the heat race his
dominance was evident as nitro nick
ran away from the field. on the start of
the final, the story was the same. nitro
nick laid down fast times throughout
the race and drove to a 14 second victory. cambrian go-kart's Justin yanez
finished second with cambrian gokart's gino giglotti third.
TAG SENIOR was on track and
leading edge Motorsports Troy diede
was looking to make it two in a row
coming off his great finish at dixon.
diede qualified pole with a 32.681 just
edging kartel's Jon ban. in the heat
ban went out early as did bronson eggert leaving diede for an easy victory.
on the start of the final diede again
jumped out to an early lead and then
cruised to a solid win. andrew peeler
finished second and andrew colombini third.
kpv-2 Junior was on track to entertain. perhaps the closest field on the

the Final Kartel's Luis Tyrrell looked to
be the driver to beat. Getting the lead
early Luis began to check out. A spin in
turn three saw Tyrrell fall to fifth, but
another great run up through the field
had Tyrrell once again leading. White
flag saw Tyrrell spin once again handing the lead over to Austin Elliott for
the win. Tyrrell recovered for second
with Raczko third.
In 125 Stock Moto Kartel's
Adam Booker qualified pole with a
