Monarchs’ reign commences in pep rally
Former Chelsea Football Club striker James Joseph
Younghusband, sports TV programs host Reema Chanco, and
the Philippine Ultimate Association,the governing body of all
disc-related sports in the Philippines, joined Southville
International School and Colleges (SISC) students, parents,
and teachers in a pep rally to kick off the 2010 athletic season.
Bleachers filled with hundreds of students, varsity team players,
and cheerleaders greeted the celebrity athletes whose presence
is part of a schoolwide effort to promote sports, physical activity,
and school spirit.
Younghusband noted that he hopes he can inspire the students
and athletes “to be the best” when they take part in anything
in life. He went on to explain that being the best means “helping
others become better” for the benefit of the whole and not for
individual glory.

The High School III classes of Southville International School
and Colleges (SISC) had a Career Mapping Symposium last
August 25, 2010 where they were given career mapping
diagnostic tests that will help them identify which courses to
take in college that match their individual interests, skills, and
aptitudes. Career exploration activities were also conducted
to help the students make the right decisions in the face of
the numerous course offerings and colleges/universities to
choose from. Spearheaded by SISC’s Counseling and
Psychological Services (CAPS), the symposium has a junior
high school audience so when they reach their senior year,
they are prepared to make informed decisions about the careers
they want to pursue. “The sooner young people have the
opportunity to supplement their academic work with career
exploration, the sooner they can focus on a career they likely
will enjoy,” says Ms. Olive Flores, Head of CAPS.
SISC views the relationship it has with its students’
parents and families as a partnership that helps the
students become successful. SISC also knows that
when parents are informed, students benefit. Therefore,
all parents of High School I - IV students are invited to
An Orientation and Get-Together on September 3, 2010,
4:30 p.m., at Gym 1 of Luxembourg Campus. This is a
wonderful opportunity for parents to meet each other and
to meet their teen’s teachers. They will also be oriented
to the school’s academic goals, important policies,
classroom environment and daily activities, and ask
questions or share their concerns. Since the session is
focused on parents, it is strictly a “grown up only”
meeting and no students are allowed. Snacks will be
served.

The Preschool and Grade School Divisions
recently watched Repertory Philippines’ Sleeping
Beauty at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati. The
students had a grand time experiencing the
colorful sets and costumes, the lively music, the
simple dialogue and lyrics, the frenetic movement
and humor of the cast members, and the special
effects. The students also enjoyed immensely
the audience participation portion of the play when
they were asked to perform a charade to help
break the spell of an evil fairy.

Exam season is here - but motivating your
teenagers to review when they’d rather be
chatting to their mates online or playing on the
Xbox can be an uphill struggle. Here are tips for
getting teens to study - without turning your
home into a battleground:
1. Talk about their ambitions. Ask them
what they want to achieve. Encourage them

PASIG RIVER fun-run happening on October
10, 2010 to save the Pasig River and sustain
environmental efforts to rehabilitate it. The
one-of-a-kind run is targeting 120,000 runners
to break a Guinness World Record and show
the world the Filipino’s prowess to mobilize
and consolidate society for a noble cause.
Students, parents, teachers, employees, and
friends are invited to join the SISC delegation
in the 5k fun-run/walk. You may pay the Php
100.00 registration fee at the Accounting Office
