First Impressions Dental
Hygiene Clinic
Hernder Estate Wines
C
hoose First Impressions Dental Hygiene Clinic for your next oral health care appointment and
you will leave with a healthy smile and a few extra dollars in your wallet.
Kristine Spehar and Jayme Bernard are proud to announce the opening of an independent Dental
Hygiene practice at 9 Court Street in Downtown St. Catharines. Both have years of experience as
Registered Dental Hygienists and a focus on providing a gentle, caring approach with patients and
educating the public on oral health.
“We believe passionately in the importance of preventative oral care and its relationship to total
health. By placing an emphasis on patient education, we will have you take control of your smile
and your overall quality of life,” Kristine says.
Since every patient is unique, First Impressions will work with each new patient to provide you
with professional dental hygiene care that will meet YOUR individualized needs.
On September 1st, 2007, an amendment was made to the DHA which enabled dental hygienists
to proceed with the authorized act of “scaling teeth” without an order from a dentist. Increased
public access and affordability are the cornerstones of this ground-breaking change to the way
dentistry has been practiced. This means costs for dental services are typically 20-30% lower than
traditional dentist offices. First Impressions Dental Hygiene Clinic will also provide comprehensive
care by working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to help you attain optimal
oral and overall health.
A
quiet country road, the gentle swell of vineyards beneath the brow of the Niagara Escarpment; turn down the lane, through a unique wooden covered bridge up to an immense,
perfectly restored Victorian era barn.
Located in west St. Catharines, right in the Heart of Niagara’s Wine Country you’ll find a family
owned gem, Hernder Estate Wines. Lifelong residents of St.Catharines, Fred Hernder, his wife
Ricki, son Chris and daughter Angel oversee all aspects of the business.
This winery, opened in 1992, is housed inside a fully restored, Victorian era cattle barn that dates
back to 1867. Owned and operated by the Hernder family, Hernder Estate Wines produces over
50,000 cases of wine each year and although considered a mid-sized winery by industry standards,
they are a large grape grower with over 500 acres of grapes. Producing a wide range of award winning varieties, exceptionally priced, Hernder Estates stands out from the rest! A unique line of Iced
Fruit wines, such as peach and raspberry keep customers coming back year after year!! None of
these products are available at the LCBO & are sold strictly from the property. You’ll also find our
quality wines in numerous restaurants throughout St.Catharines & Niagara Falls.
Hernder Estates also holds an annual Craft Show each November benefiting Community Care.
The Hernder Picassos’ Foundation, formed in 2007, donates all money raised to the New Regional Walker Family Cancer Centre. Having deep roots in the community and a sense of “giving back’ is what the Hernder Family strives to accomplish.
Services offered at the clinic include Teeth Whitening, Oral Health Assessments, Teeth Cleaning,
Fluoride Treatments, Sensitive Teeth Desensitizing, Oral Cancer Screenings, Custom Sports Mouth
Guards, and much more. People with dental plans should bring in their insurance details and staff
will gladly submit treatment summaries to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Situated on the 2nd floor of the newly
renovated Court Street Medical Centre
in Downtown St. Catharines, First Impressions is seconds away from the 406
and the downtown core. Along with
providing the exact same preventative
services offered in a traditional dental
office, Kristine and Jayme are happy to
offer flexible hours that work best for
you and your family.
This vast, picturesque property on which Hernder Estates sits is so breathtaking that it has
caught the eye of many couples tying the knot. Last year over 100 weddings, along with countless corporate events were held at the Hernder property. From Christmas parties, to retirements,
showers and more-Hernder can accommodate!

Company of Women Niagara
Women. Business. Entrepreneurs. Connect. Grow. It’s all a fit!
H
o w do I network, connect, and grow my business as a coach (www.theuniversunfolds.com) in a new
town? Technically I thought about retirement, but no, I wanted and needed to feel connected somehow.
I moved here in July 2009 from Oakville knowing one person in NOTL. I was at a loss as to how to meet likeminded women and develop new friends.I have been involved with helping women, networking and coaching all of my adult life. In previous incarnations I was President of Montreal Women’s Network; co-founder
of Candiac Wednesday Group now in its 30th year; OWL (Ottawa Women’s Lobby) & NAC (National Action
Committee on the Status of Women) activist, to name a few.
Wilma of H2Only sits and chats with Shirley from
Sun Life Financial
I co-founded CANLP (Canadian Association of Neuro Linguistics Programming); was the Director for the
Swim of Hope raising awareness and $10,000 for abused children at The Gatehouse; and held a successful
fundraiser in 2007 for women needing access to alternative health care. I am a graduate of CREWW, Sprott
School of Business, Management Development Program for Women, at Carleton University. I am a Master
NLP coach, and Business Coach. I am co-President of the Niagara Supper (& Dance) Club.
As the Universe would have it, Anne Day, Founder and President of Company of Women (www.companyofwomen.ca) asked if I would be interested in starting a chapter here. Would I?!!! What an honour to
follow in her footsteps bringing women together to support, learn, grow, and connect, professionally,
personally and profoundly!
As a member of the Oakville Company of Women for 7 years, I always felt warmth, and acceptance. I met
wonderful women and new friends – entrepreneurs, volunteers, professional women looking to build their
clientele, and women who simply wanted to connect with other women. The speakers at each meeting were
always very interesting and the dinners really tasty.

Julia is Advertising Manager at the St.
Catharines Standard and recent winner of the
Women in Business 2010 Sun Media award.

Manager of Speedpro Imaging
So YES! I would love to bring that environment to Niagara. Instinct told me there are many women here who
would relish the chance to connect and to have similar
experiences. My belief in them proved accurate! Sixty
women showed up to our launch in October! Feedback
was wonderful including “This is just what we need
in the Niagara!”
Membership is very reasonable and the benefits are many.
There is an online & printed directory (for sale to business prospects) with your profile, pre-dinner networking,
workshops, a resource centre, trade shows and special
events full of fun, packed with activity and sprinkled with
a healthy dose of self-improvement!
I am proud to be on the Advisory Board of Company
of Women. I am busy. I am happy! Life in the Niagara
is wonderful!
