It’s a combination of advanced technology and rigorous testing. TOYO
Observe winter tires are actually tested and designed for use in even
the worst of Canadian winters.
Crushed black walnut shells embedded into the tread
compound increases traction and braking on ice and
compacted snow. It’s like having thousands of tiny spikes
digging into the ice or compacted snow. Why walnut
shells? Because it is one of the hardest natural substances
in the world so it works great plus it’s easy on the
environment.
Increased levels of silica and improved dispersion in
the compound allows better block flexibility at lower
temperatures enhancing wet grip and braking, while
maintaining traction in low temperatures.
An absorbent carbonic powder made from bamboo
charcoal removes the thin water layer on the ice surface
allowing for better contact. Better contact means
better traction.
Advancements in design technology like “saw toothed”
block edges and “multi-wave” sipes increase grip during
a variety of winter conditions. At TOYO TIRES, we design
our winter tires to be “all-around” winter tires ready for
all winter conditions.

Transport Canada Approved for Severe
Winter Conditions
Transport Canada in conjunction with the Rubber Association of Canada and
the Rubber Manufacturers Association in the U.S.A. have introduced a new
performance standard requirement for snow tires. This new
standard was developed to help consumers distinguish
between an “all season” tire (represented by the symbol
“M+S”) and tires specifically designed for use in severe
winter conditions. Tires now meeting this new standard
for true winter tires will display a mountain/snowflake
pictograph on the sidewall in addition to the M+S
symbol.
