THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
GOD LIVES HERE
JUNE 26, 2011
The word of God does not exist in a vacuum.
His word goes forth from Him and does not return until it has accomplished His Will. Every
Sunday we listen to the word of God and we receive the Word-made-Flesh, Jesus Christ. The
Word which we hear and receive lives in us and
grows in us.
The growth of God’s word in us is not meant
simply for us. God sent forth His Word to accomplish the establishment of His kingdom.
Through Christ, God the Father has chosen us
to use our words and actions to bring His Wisdom to our world. It is His desire that we give
birth to a world eager to receive our Creator.
As we allow the word of God to grow in us, let
us think and pray about how we can make St.
Dominic’s parish a place where people can say,
“God lives here. We see His life in the people of
this parish.”

On this feast of the Body of
Christ, it is good for us to remember that St. Dominic’s Parish is in the business of building up the followers of Christ.
We need each other. Sometimes we forget that all of us
have a role to play in keeping
the parish strong. Whether we
work for the parish or volunteer for the Church or the
School, we all contribute in strengthening each other.
We are the Body of Christ, feeding each other the
wisdom Christ shares with each of us. We thank God
for the gifts we have and we boast in Christ alone.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY NEWS
Thank you to all of the parishioners who participated in the recent
Baby Bottle campaign and returned their bottles. The donations
will help the Pro-Life Union to provide for mothers and their
unborn babies. If you have taken a bottle and have not yet returned it with your donation, it is not too late! You can still drop
it off at the Rectory. Members of the Respect Life Ministry will
pick up the bottles and arrange for the Pro-Life Union to get
them. The Respect Life Ministry members appreciate your support. Have a safe and happy summer!

basis creating a lesson plan? If you answered yes to these

THE COLLECT
IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
The Immaculate Heart of Mary, originally The Sacred
Heart of Mary, is a devotional name used to refer to
the interior life of Mary, her joys and sorrows, her virtues and hidden perfections, and, above all, her virginal love for her God, her maternal love for her Son,
Jesus, and her compassionate love for all people. The
consideration of Mary’s interior life and the beauties
of her soul, without any thought of her physical heart,
does not constitute the traditional devotion; still less
does it consist in the consideration of the Heart of
Mary merely as a part of her virginal body. In 1855
the Mass of the Most Pure Heart formally became a
part of Catholic practice. The two elements are essential to the devotion, just as, according to Roman
Catholic theology, soul and body are necessary to the
constitution of man. Eastern Catholics generally do
not utilize the image, devotion or theology associated
with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, seeing it as a form
of liturgical latinization. The Roman Catholic view is
based on the Roman Catholic focus on Marionlogy, as
exemplified by Pope John Paul II’s Apostolic Letter
Rosarium Virginis Mariae which builds on the total
Marian devotion pioneered by Saint Louis de Montfort. Traditionally, the heart is pierced with seven
wounds or swords, in homage to the seven colors of
Mary. Consequently, seven Hail Mary’s are said daily
in honor of the devotion. Also, roses or another type
of flower may be wrapped around the heart.
“In everything by prayer and supplication let
your requests be made known to God” (Philippians
4:6). What is the Collect? The origin of the term
refers to the prayer made by the people “collected
together in one place” and to the “collecting up” of
the petitions of the many into one single prayer.
The Collect concludes the Introductory Rites of the
Mass.
The Collect is made up of four elements. (1)
The priest, by saying, “Let us pray,” invites the
faithful to make their petitions to God in a silent
supplication. (2) The faithful respond by praying in
silence. (3) The priest collects the prayers of the
many into a single solemn prayer and presents it to
God through Christ. (4) The faithful respond
“Amen,” placing the seal of their assent on the
prayer offered by the priest.
Read the Collect of today’s Mass and take it
to heart. It will teach you how to call upon God, remind you of what his power has done in the past,
teach you to ask wisely for his grace in the present,
and invest your prayer with the joyous assurance
that comes from going to God “through Christ our
Lord.”
(These weekly inserts concern the
changes in the Mass.)

bathes in an ADVERTISED shower

brushes his teeth
with ADVERTISED toothpaste
