MAJOR LEAGUE DRAFT
Since the beginning of the Nino Giarratano era at USF the Dons have
had success in the draft and at every level of professional baseball.
Since Giarratano arrived on the Hilltop in 1999 he has seen 38 players
selected in the Major League Baseball draft (not including two players
who were selected twice while at USF) by 20 different teams.
First round picks include left-handed pitchers Aaron Poreda in 2007
and Evan Fredrickson in 2008. USF has also seen three of the players
drafted under Coach Giarratano make it to the big leagues in Scott
Cousins (currently on the Florida Marlins 40-Man roster) Aaron Poreda
(Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres), and Jesse Foppert (San
Francisco Giants).
The Dons also have a few players quickly climbing the ladder to the
big leagues, one of those USF alum Stefan Gartrell is currently in AAA
with the Gwinett Braves.
